This makes me incredibly sad to be writing this review. Two years ago, I called inquiring about puppy availability. At the time, they didn't have any available but they did have a 6 month old little guy that Kerry claimed was very sweet and a return to breeder. She claimed to not know why he was returned but I wasn't really too concerned considering I was experienced with golden puppies and my thought was that they just may have gotten in over their head and returned him. He was afraid of nearly everything. But with time and lots of work he outgrew the fears. But early on(within weeks) he showed signs of resource guarding and aggression as it relates to toys. Ahhh...I think I figured out why he was returned. So, I contacted Kerry to ask whether this was a trait with their dogs. No response. He has now attacked several dogs, been kicked out of parks and play groups. We have been to trainers, worked with him extensively and even now he has become aggressive on a leash. What makes me sad is that he is our 25 year old daughter's dog. She takes him everywhere and works with him day in and day out. She loves him dearly, as do we. She will never be able to get a second puppy with him. We have chosen not to get another dog (our 14 year golden passed away) because we are the back up care for him when she needs someone to watch him. But he is a real liability for her. I guess I just wish they had been honest with us. Make sure you know the temperament of the parents before spending a lot of money on a puppy and taking on that risk. read more

Six years after having my Winchester Golden, she started limping. I immediately took her to the vet, she did X-rays and told me she has hip dysplasia, both hips, right side is worse than the left. She said by looking at the films Abby has had it for a long time. The vet also asked if she can jump in the car or on the couch and Abby has never jumped on anything. So that's a good indicator that Abby has had it for a very long time. I thought breeders tested for this in the parents before they breed them. I worry what the quality of life will be for Abby as she continues to age. This is just not right and it's not fair to Abby. read more

Not only are they wonderful in raising these Goldens, they are excellent down to earth folks. After scheduling an appointment to meet with them regarding our future adoption of a new Golden puppy, we ventured out to take a look at the facility and learn about the process. We were so impressed with their attitude and their commitment to placing these pups in a good loving environment and nurturing homes. Ron and Kerry were extremely helpful and genuine during our experience with them. Just like the Golden pups, Ron and Kerry were just as charming to us! We spent quite a while learning about the Goldens, the process of adopting a Golden pup, and proper "Lifetime care" which is very important. We decided to purchase a "Golden" from them and it was the BEST decision we could have ever made. Their prices were fair and their care for these pups are extraordinary! We didn't just get a new Golden pup for our son, we got a lifetime friendship with Ron AND Kerry too! I wouldn't recommend any other breeder because Winchester Goldens is the ONLY place to go. Our Golden pup was up to date with her required shots, including a microchip implant for tracking purposes if she ever got separated from us. Our son has loved this Golden since day 1 and she is his VERY BEST FRIEND! He loves her and she loves him. They are always together and are such wonderful lifetime pals! We are blessed and honored to have purchased our wonderful dog from Winchester Goldens! We are so happy with our family dog "Cheyenne" - who by the way, picked US during the selection process. While standing in a small fenced in area of puppies, my wife and I stood still as we observed the pups. After just a few seconds.....this little adorable sweet pup walked over to my wife and rested her head on my wife's feet. My wife picked the pup into her arms and at that very moment the pup nibbled & licked my wife's ear - it was love at first sight! That's when we both knew she was the dog for us! PARVO and NEGLIGENCE: Puppy purchasers beware. If you plan to purchase from them within the next year or two, please know that there is still a fair chance that the Parvo virus is still alive on their property and your lovely new family member may be the next victim of their irresponsibility. SIX puppies across THREE litters this summer (born June 21, July 5, and July 9) contracted Parvo from Ron and Kerry's home. It is our firm belief that they knew this when they handed us our beautiful little runt of the litter, Nash. Less than 24 hours into bringing her home, our new fur baby was incredibly ill. We brought her home on a Friday afternoon, and by Sunday, she was admitted into a critical care animal hospital. She received 24/7 care for a full week. It was a day-to-day process, and it was heart-wrenching. We are so lucky that our little fighter pulled through, and we are forever indebted to the amazing professional care at that facility. When Ron and Kerry found out that Nash and the other puppies had Parvo, they insisted that we all bring them back to them so that they can "treat" them; aka: save money and cut corners at the expense of these poor puppy's health and well-being. We opted to not put her back in their care, and we are so glad we didn't. Some of the other puppies were actually being treated in the very environment in which they contracted the virus. And even worse, THREE puppies did NOT survive (two of which were in their care). Imagine the emotional roller coaster and heartache this caused for families. I cannot speak for the others that I am in contact with, however I can say with confidence that they are just as suspicious and untrusting of Ron and Kerry. I will let them speak for themselves in their own reviews, which I hope they will do. Let me tell you what Ron and Kerry's response to this will likely be: 1. "They feel horrible, and they love all of their puppies" (likely true). 2. "They acted as quickly as possible upon learning about the Parvo outbreak, as it has not happened within 25 years of being in business" (BUT they knew before handing us our puppies that there was a fair chance that some pups would have Parvo, hence the negligence). 3. "They paid us what we were legally owed, under the Puppy Lemon Laws" (true, we were entitled to up to 150% of the purchase price to go toward vet bills, which equated to $2,250 but it barely covered a third of the entire cost of $7,000. Legally bound, yes, but that still does not make it RIGHT given the fact that they knew that puppies in their care had a fair chance of contracting Parvo). I am not posting this review to disparage Ron and Kerry as human beings or to get into a personal attack of any kind. Rather, I want to bring about awareness to the fact that as breeders for 25 years, a purchaser should have the reasonable expectation that they would be RESPONSIBLE in their transactions. Especially when it is centered around the health and well-beings of these innocent puppies. read more

Our experience with Winchester Goldens was magical. The property that they are raised on is charming. It was so exciting to drive up to the big gate and see the sign: "Winchester Goldens!" My Mom and I got to visit the puppies at four weeks (but not touch) and take our time asking questions. We got to meet and spend time with our Dolly's mom and dad. We have 2 dogs from Winchester. Great first experience and wanted a second dog. We got our second in May 2017, and it was diagnosed from 3 vets with elbow dysplasia in August of 2017. The first response from Kerry was I could bring her back. Are you kidding me? Then was told to send the medical records. I sent the required paperwork as requested, and never heard a thing from them. I did not pursue the issue in regard to a refund but hoped they would do the right thing and retire the parents. These sweet animals do not deserve to live a life of pain. However, after reading a previous review regarding dysplasia I was prompted to write this. I was completely lied to. I too was told that they have never had issues with dysplasia, but yet a previous review had an issue in 2016. Now there are 2 complaints on Yelp that involve the quality of their breeding practices. Getting a new addition was a big deal for our family! I found out about WG and from the first email inquiry to today they have been fantastic. Prior to our puppy pick up, I had a ton of questions and the quick replies really helped us make our decision. Here's our Experience with Winchester Goldens. We visited Winchester Goldens in October of 2015 to see the dogs and met Ron, and we were impressed with the dogs and property. We got on the waiting list, and on March 3rd 2016 our puppy Tillie was born. We took possession of the puppy in early May. In October 2016, we noticed the as the dog walked her hips would pop and click. You could feel the popping on her lower back just above her tail. We took the dog to our local vet, and they sedated her and took X-rays. They reported that she had severe hip dysplasia on both hips, and that we would need to see an orthopedic specialist to have this condition treated. We went to the specialist and she required her pelvis to be cut and rotated 35 degrees on the left side, and 20 degrees on the right. They rotated the pelvis and applied plates and screws. She had two separate surgeries over four weeks costing over $12,000 not counting other many cost incurred. We informed Winchester Goldens of Tillie's condition, and they stated that they have never had any issues with hip dysplasia in their dogs in the past. My little sweetheart is a charmer and as pretty as a puppy can be. She's gorgeous. She's headstrong and opinionated but she's a pleasure to have around. She's 100% puppy and teething (everything goes into her mouth) but that's normal. She's super smart and definitely is learning her manners very quickly!
