That being said the way this business was run didn't change for the first 6 years I went there and I doubt it has in the last 3. Tom and the other guys that work there are very helpful and honest. I always felt like they gave a good price and explained exactly what they were doing to my car. I really appreciate when my mechanic tells me: "A and B need to be fixed immediately, C should be fixed but will be fine for at least another 3 months and D will make your car run a little smoother but isn't hurting anything and may not be worth $$$." This was the straight forward approach I always got at Tom's and I highly recommend this place.

Hard to find an honest mechanic who doesn't try to screw you out of money. I went to another mechanic for an estimate because I had a discount at their shop from my job, their estimate almost gave me heart failure! I had Tom look at my car, price it and give me an estimate and his came in almost $600 cheaper! (The car needed a lot of work!). $600!! That is a lot of groceries! We love Tom and his crew!

Just as we pulled into Orange, the "Charge System" light came on. I just so happened to catch one of the chain parts stores just prior to closing; they verified my alternator was bad; and (thank the Lord) had one in stock. The young man at the counter suggested a decent hotel in town, and advised: "Now in the morning, you be at Altman's Tire when they open at 8; they'll take care of you." Sure enough, Altman's owner opened the doors just before 8 a.m. the next morning and had me on the road by 10 a.m. The price charged was cheaper than what I would have been charged back home and I've had zero issues with the work they performed. Altman's is like stepping back into a more sophisticated time. Thank you so much.

This isn't a traditional review because I haven't used Car Doctor for direct service yet--but I…read moreabsolutely will in the future! I felt compelled to share how much care and courtesy their team member, Nelson, showed me during two separate car issues. My elderly parents live in Culpeper, and I visit them every weekend. The first time we met Nelson, our car needed air. My husband and I went to three different gas stations (including the nearby 7-Eleven) and none of the pumps worked. We pulled into Car Doctor, and Nelson kindly drove our car into the garage to fill the tires. He completely refused to take any money for it. Just a few weeks later on a Friday after 5:00 PM, I was driving into town when I heard a loud pop followed by a heavy humming noise. A plastic panel on the bottom of my Prius had broken off and was dragging on the road. Even though the technicians had already gone home for the weekend, Nelson was still there. He immediately identified the problem, pulled the car in, and cut off the broken piece to create a safe, short-term fix. Once again, he refused to take a single dime! Just when I was losing faith in humanity, an honest, kind, and caring person like Nelson reminded me that great people still exist. This is small-town community care at its absolute best. While I was there, I also noticed the shop area was completely immaculate. I will definitely be bringing both my car and my parents' car here for all future services. I look forward to giving them my business!
