Wanted an oil change at 15,000 miles. They called and said I needed cabin air filters. Picked up car and dave charged me $612. He actually told me he lubed my 4 doors trying to justify his outrageous invoice. I experienced humming noise when my ac was on high after I left. Brought car into muller Honda and they told me when autocare replaced the cabin air filter debris fell into the power motor causing it to become unbalanced. Had to pay $190 to honda. So my oill change and 2 filters cost me around $800. Would never go back. read more

Wilmette Auto Care is the preferred choice amongst the locals for their car needs - whether it's a check-up or a maintenance, the staff here seem to be very honest and competitively priced compared to other auto shops in the area. Mr. Peto tended to our vehicle, and we did a drop-off and a pick-up on the same day; the car is back to running smoothly, which is great! Getting in and out is a little tricky, as there's tons of incoming traffic; the lot is also super small and super packed (that's how popular this place is), so navigating through is also a little complicated. Thanks, Wilmette Auto Care! +ask for Mr. Peto +competitively-priced auto services +getting in and out is tricky read more

Wilmette Auto Care - Auto Repair Near Me - Wilmette, Illinois

Fixed my leaked tire on super short notice and with a reasonable price. They were very nice and respectable

After years of coming here, I will never come back. I tried to support Dave and Pedro after they bought the business, but they just lack in customer service. They don't come close to the level of service Baykar provided. It took 3 separate visits to finally get my defective brakes fixed. They installed the defective brakes. I kept asking them to call me so I didn't waste my time and they just don't care. I'm only going to Pauly Honda now. It's the same price read more

So far so good with value and service here. A little pricier than some but worth it for competent work.

WOULd GIVE 0 STARS IF I COULD. DO NOT USE THEM. My car radio wire was cut. i asked them if they could put my new radio in. i wasn't sure how to do the wiring. they told me i needed soldering done and it would be 130$ an hour. get all the work done i pay a ton of money for it. then it doesn't work. i call and he tells me to check fuses and to check wires. which i thought this is what i paid him to do... i take it to another shop and they say the work he did was not done correctly. they said i just needed a new wire which cost me 3$. not 130$ an hour. I go back to them to see if i can get money back. they said no because it's not still plugged into my car.... So they just ripped me off for work they didn't finish. he said "no refund" with a little chuckle like i was an idiot read more

Let me start off by saying that I am going to be a little biased here. I personally know the staff. But, friends have been know to do underhanded things to friends and I have not had that with this group. I just wanted to say Thank you to his team and taking care of me. I know not my best review, but, wanted to share anyways. read more

Crank my shaft and call me Sally! This place got my rod revved. They did what they said and more. No hidden charges. No feeling of getting done dry. The FIRST time I've ever had my car worked on where I didn't get upsold.! ALL garages upsell - that's a fact. It was just so chill and cool. Next time I have auto problems it's a relief to realize that I don't have to have any anxiety. read more

Baykar is the most honest mechanic you will ever meet. Wilmette Auto may not be the cheapest, but they are the best around. Recently, my husband's car was making crazy sounds, and he took it to Wilmette Auto Care. Baykar determined it was either the catalytic converter or a little piece near the catalytic converter. He said, "Take it to the dealer. If it's the catalytic converter, it should be covered to 80,000 miles." He was right. So, rather than do the repairs himself and make a few bucks, he did the honest thing, and we paid nothing for the repair. I will never go anywhere else. Also, whenever I go, Baykar gives me a ride home or back to work. (I live and work in Wilmette, so don't get any crazy ideas.) Plus, as an added Bonus, Baykar looks like a shorter, less intimidating Raymond Burr. read more

First time I used today. Great, professional service. I called in the morning and they fit me in later in the day. Explained all repairs thoroughly. I will definitely use them again! read more

Just the best. Finally an honest car mechanic. Owner used to build nuclear power stations and started business because he loved cars. I always get a straight answer and often a very different story from the dealer. Highly recommended. Specializes in European cars. read more

Wilmette Auto Care - Baykar - Auto Repair Near Me - Wilmette, Illinois

I am so thrilled with the service here that I am compelled to write my first ever Yelp review. I took my car in today because a) it's been making a strange noise and 2) I know nothing about cars. I chose Wilmette Auto Care because of the stellar reviews on this site, and I'm so glad I did. It turned out that the noise was a minor issue that does not require any repairs, so Baykar sent me on my way and refused to let me pay him for his time. I was shocked - and so grateful. What an honest and kind guy! I will definitely bring my car to this shop for all future repairs. read more

We use this mechanic for awhile and it was fine, but then all of a sudden he was reluctant to try to figure out a problem with our car. He kept saying nothing was wrong and we should just live with it (an interior leak that was causing the floor of the car to become soaked when it rained...then we had to dry it out with a hair dryer so we didn't get mold...not fun). We went to the BMW dealer and for $135 they fixed it--very simple fix and it would have cost less but they said they had to charge at least the minimum fee. Not sure what is going on with Wilmette Auto these days. read more

To me, finding a great, honest auto mechanic is akin to finding a great heart surgeon. Baykar's the best. The first time I met him (on the recommendation of my auto-phile neighbor), I asked him to look into a persistent oil warning light on my 2001 Audi TT. Baykar tracked the problem down to a faulty sensor. The dealership would've replaced the sensor, the oil pan and everything else and charged me a ton. Baykar actually disassembled the sensor cleaned some contacts with a wire brush and charged me $35 -- less than an oil change. I probably saved several hundred in parts. A week later, I asked him to do the 80k mile checkup on the Audi. He charged me about a third of the dealership's price. Since then we've taken my TT, my wife's BMW and my kids' PT Cruiser to Wilmette Auto for any number of reasons. Each time, the work was perfect and the price was reasonable. Baykar is honest to a fault and a real nice guy. I expect to get another 100k miles out of my Audi under Baykar's care. read more

I like this place a lot. A friend turned me on to Bicar (owner) as a trustworthy mechanic. This friend is a super-frugal older attorney so consider this a toughly-vetted business. Hard to find! read more

Really great service! Went in to get my transmission fluid changed, and was told my car didn't need it until much later. They didn't try to upsell me on anything. Straight-forward and honest. Best auto shop I've been to! read more

Baykar and his team are amazing. I have been taking 3 cars here since moving to Evanston in 2012. By far the best out there. His shop is HONEST and dependable. He always calls to let me know what I need. Hands down the best in Chicagoland. He specializes is European cars. read more

This is a great local garage. Baykar is very knowledgeable and honest. He treats his customers and workers well. Car maintenance and repairs are already expensive, and most places will try to take advantage of people who don't know much about it. Not this place! They will do very minor things that take a few minutes for free, and will tell you if your car actually requires more work. read more

Honest, reliable and knowledgable...and friendly. Not much more you can ask for. Brought my daughter's car in twice. First time; no issue, no charge even though they spent almost an hour confirming there was no issue. Second time; quickly diagnosed issue and took care of repair in about 15 minutes. I now have a go-to mechanic. read more

After trying other auto repair shops in Wilmette, I can safely say I've found my favorite. Baykar takes the time to explain your car's problem and make an honest recommendation on the best way to go about repairing it. What more could you want? read more

Amazing service, amazing staff, very trustworthy and great prices ! Would recommend 10/10!!

What a pleasure to deal with this shop. The rates are reasonable, the estimates are accurate, and work is completed on time as promised. Location can't be beat -- across the street from the Metra. And to top it off, the owner would not let me pay for my car until I drove it for at least a day -- he wanted to make sure I was satisfied. I am! read more

Top notch, honest car repair. Took my Audi in based on a friend's recommendation. They are smart and know their stuff. Plus he was honest about what I must fix now and what I can wait for. The mechanic showed me the issues and explained options. Honest, Armenian shop. read more

I trust these guys wholeheartedly. If you're looking for a reliable and efficient auto care place, this is the place to go.

Just left this place five minutes ago... My corolla was making a whack noise but I know literally nothing about cars.. Saw it got a good review and checked them out. They put new power steering fluid in my car for free and sent me on my way! They could have taken advantage of me but they were totally honest. This experience just earned them a customer for life. read more

I chose them based on their stellar reviews here, but my experience was pretty bad. My turning signal wouldn't turn off, and when I discovered this my battery was dead, so I needed emergency roadside assistance. After getting the car to start the turning signal somehow went off so I was able to bring it to Auto Care the next morning. I had the impression from the beginning that they didn't believe me and didn't take it seriously. Sure enough, after two days (!) they called me and said they couldn't figure out what the issue was. When I went there to pick up my car they've stated the car and sure enough the turning signal was stuck again! It looked like they didn't even try before, didn't move my car for 2 days. They apologized and said they want to look at it again. When I went there to pick it up in the morning before work none showed up for the first 30 minutes despite 3 customers waiting. Baykar never showed up, and the guy in charge had no clue what the issue was. They said they worked on it. When I explained what the issue was, he said that this was a standard issue with this type of car!!! Now, after only two months I have the same issue again. They clearly didn't do a good job (or any at all), but they still billed me $90. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. read more

I've been a customer since 2010 and could not be more satisfied with this shop. The rates are very reasonable, service is quick and the diagnosis is always honest. The owner never tries to upsell me--instead, he is always offering me options to help me save money. Plus I never feel like I am being talked down to as a woman, which was not the case with previous mechanics. This makes my sig other very happy as now he no longer needs to negotiate with shyster mechanics on my behalf. We both feel comfortable leaving the car in Wilmette Auto Care's very capable hands. Thank you, Baykar! read more

Bykar is the best. I have been going there for 20 years. I took my car to Field's BMW and they said that I needed $6,000 in repairs. Bykar looked at it and told me what was really necessary and the bill was less than $500.00. If course Field's charged $175 to look at the car and the tow was $100 but I am ahead of the game. read more
