Wanted an oil change at 15,000 miles. They called and said I needed cabin air filters. Picked up car and dave charged me $612. He actually told me he lubed my 4 doors trying to justify his outrageous invoice. I experienced humming noise when my ac was on high after I left. Brought car into muller Honda and they told me when autocare replaced the cabin air filter debris fell into the power motor causing it to become unbalanced. Had to pay $190 to honda. So my oill change and 2 filters cost me around $800. Would never go back. read more

WOULd GIVE 0 STARS IF I COULD. DO NOT USE THEM. My car radio wire was cut. i asked them if they could put my new radio in. i wasn't sure how to do the wiring. they told me i needed soldering done and it would be 130$ an hour. get all the work done i pay a ton of money for it. then it doesn't work. i call and he tells me to check fuses and to check wires. which i thought this is what i paid him to do... i take it to another shop and they say the work he did was not done correctly. they said i just needed a new wire which cost me 3$. not 130$ an hour. I go back to them to see if i can get money back. they said no because it's not still plugged into my car.... So they just ripped me off for work they didn't finish. he said "no refund" with a little chuckle like i was an idiot read more

Baykar is the most honest mechanic you will ever meet. Wilmette Auto may not be the cheapest, but they are the best around. Recently, my husband's car was making crazy sounds, and he took it to Wilmette Auto Care. Baykar determined it was either the catalytic converter or a little piece near the catalytic converter. He said, "Take it to the dealer. If it's the catalytic converter, it should be covered to 80,000 miles." He was right. So, rather than do the repairs himself and make a few bucks, he did the honest thing, and we paid nothing for the repair. I will never go anywhere else. Also, whenever I go, Baykar gives me a ride home or back to work. (I live and work in Wilmette, so don't get any crazy ideas.) Plus, as an added Bonus, Baykar looks like a shorter, less intimidating Raymond Burr. read more

We use this mechanic for awhile and it was fine, but then all of a sudden he was reluctant to try to figure out a problem with our car. He kept saying nothing was wrong and we should just live with it (an interior leak that was causing the floor of the car to become soaked when it rained...then we had to dry it out with a hair dryer so we didn't get mold...not fun). We went to the BMW dealer and for $135 they fixed it--very simple fix and it would have cost less but they said they had to charge at least the minimum fee. To me, finding a great, honest auto mechanic is akin to finding a great heart surgeon. Baykar's the best. The first time I met him (on the recommendation of my auto-phile neighbor), I asked him to look into a persistent oil warning light on my 2001 Audi TT. Baykar tracked the problem down to a faulty sensor. The dealership would've replaced the sensor, the oil pan and everything else and charged me a ton. Baykar actually disassembled the sensor cleaned some contacts with a wire brush and charged me $35 -- less than an oil change. I probably saved several hundred in parts. A week later, I asked him to do the 80k mile checkup on the Audi. He charged me about a third of the dealership's price. Since then we've taken my TT, my wife's BMW and my kids' PT Cruiser to Wilmette Auto for any number of reasons. Each time, the work was perfect and the price was reasonable. Baykar is honest to a fault and a real nice guy. I expect to get another 100k miles out of my Audi under Baykar's care. read more

Car maintenance and repairs are already expensive, and most places will try to take advantage of people who don't know much about it. Not this place! I chose them based on their stellar reviews here, but my experience was pretty bad. My turning signal wouldn't turn off, and when I discovered this my battery was dead, so I needed emergency roadside assistance. After getting the car to start the turning signal somehow went off so I was able to bring it to Auto Care the next morning. I had the impression from the beginning that they didn't believe me and didn't take it seriously. Sure enough, after two days (!) they called me and said they couldn't figure out what the issue was. When I went there to pick up my car they've stated the car and sure enough the turning signal was stuck again! It looked like they didn't even try before, didn't move my car for 2 days. They apologized and said they want to look at it again. When I went there to pick it up in the morning before work none showed up for the first 30 minutes despite 3 customers waiting. Baykar never showed up, and the guy in charge had no clue what the issue was. They said they worked on it. When I explained what the issue was, he said that this was a standard issue with this type of car!!! Now, after only two months I have the same issue again. They clearly didn't do a good job (or any at all), but they still billed me $90. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. read more

I've been a customer since 2010 and could not be more satisfied with this shop. The rates are very reasonable, service is quick and the diagnosis is always honest. The owner never tries to upsell me--instead, he is always offering me options to help me save money. Plus I never feel like I am being talked down to as a woman, which was not the case with previous mechanics. Bykar is the best. I have been going there for 20 years. I took my car to Field's BMW and they said that I needed $6,000 in repairs. Bykar looked at it and told me what was really necessary and the bill was less than $500.00. If course Field's charged $175 to look at the car and the tow was $100 but I am ahead of the game. read more
