Was in Santa Barbara, CA for business and needed a shape up. Stop by the day before to just check out the place and to ask for the hours. Showed up around 9:30a and end up leaving around 11:00a. One barber (slow) and I was the only other person sitting in the shop at the time. Customers started walking in and since they were the usual's, I kept getting bumped. Someone claimed to be sitting out in his car. Go figure, not a way to do business. read more

I am a visitor to Santa Barbara, and wanted to find a proper men's barber shop. Willie's certainly qualified. After a reasonable wait, I was ushered into the barber chair of the great man himself. The haircut was quite competent, the barber not too loquacious. However, after I was seated in the chair, I noticed a sign on the back wall: "Perverts Must be Kept on a Leash." Needless to say, I was startled and offended. At the end of the haircut, I asked the barber/owner about the sign. His reply: "Oh, someone must have put that up." I told him in no uncertain terms that it could be construed as a gratuitous insult to perhaps 10% of his potential customer base, and strongly suggested to him that he take it down. I live in Ventura, and will regularly drive up the coast to SB for a cut at Willie's. There's an old school charm to the place that I enjoy, a throwback to when I was a kid and I'd go to the barber. I've been living in Santa Barbara three months now and have been to Willie's 3 times. I'm happy to say I've found my barbershop. Each time I came out with a long crew cut I was more than satisfied with. Gilbert and Willie are both great guys and they've been doing this forever. I've had my hair cut by both of them and they're both skilled in what their trade. $20 bucks and 20-30 minutes of my time (even during the lunch hour when I typically go) I came out clean cut, looking fresh and ready to take over the world. read more

I am a 67 year young Professor, one of those who is never satisfied with the quality of any task. Yet, Willie's Barber Shop, operated by the father and son team is the best one I have had a hair cut at. The shop is over 70 years old. The father is as wise as a sage, with all sorts of stories. The Shop was recently renovated though I very much liked the old one decorated with pictures showing the owners and their blessed lives. Willie's Barber Shop is inexpensive. At the time of this Review, 10/05/14, the price was below $20 dollars. In this visit, I forgot to pay! The old gentleman or his son said nothing! Amazing in this time and age! In this shop you may find a friend of mine having hair cut. He is an unassuming Nobel Laureate at University of California! I lived 32 years in Washington DC, but never encountered a distinguished colleague in Barbershop! It is a treat to visit this Barbershop and the decent men working here. been coming here since the 1980s. willie and gil give great cuts for cheap $. it is what it is, if you want something fancy, go pay more at a place that does such things. this is an old school men's barber shop. good guys, local/family owned and operated since day 1....50something years ago! they used to cut my mohawks back in the 80s, flat tops, pomps, whatever. good dudes for sure~ read more
