The entire time being in very bad pain. He was told we don't have time for that now. Requested water and was told you don't need water right now. At 10:30 in the morning he still was not dressed and ready for the day. He was constantly berated for the clothing he wore. Whenever he rang the bell for assistance he would have to wait at least 20 minutes for someone to come in and help. Basic human dignity was thrown aside, he was told he didn't need a bed pan or a urinal. They didn't have time for that. Food was served cold or put where he couldn't reach it. They then complained that he wasn't eating. False information was put in his chart and I cannot get it removed. When anyone was asked a question no one could answer anything. The common response was I don't know. Upon discharge we were given a list of medical transport companies that were 50 - 60 miles away that would cost $500 + to transport. When we mentioned this to the social worker her response was those are the names we have. My daughter found an agency in James City County that transports no charge for James City County residents. She found this from New Jersey. Funny Windsor Meade knew nothing about this. Never gave me a list of items that we would need once he was home for example: table for the bed, gait belt etc. I was told repeatedly that he was to be admitted to a nursing home. My response was that was not going to happen. They told me he needed 24 - 7 nursing care and that he had no business going home. Did not approve of our decision to go home. Was given a list of nursing homes in the area that we could investigate once we realized that home was not the place to be. I must say that we have a wonderful team of home health people coming to our house and he is responding greatly to the care he is receiving. I would give Windsor Meade a rating of 0 if I could. It was given a 5 star rating by Medicare. I would hate to see what a 2 or 3 star facility was like.

My mother was a resident of Charter's Memory Care wing. During the few months she was there she…read morelost a great deal of weight, had three diagnosed UTIs and broke her hip. We have since moved her to a new location that does not use the excuse that everyone, everywhere is short staffed. Here are a handful of reasons I am rating Charter one star. Charter uses contractors a lot from what I was told. Of the staff in the memory care wing, they seldom smiled, mostly seemed put out when you asked them anything, and many times you just couldn't find anyone to help. My mom's laundry disappeared a lot. And her room over the time she was there started to smell of urine. Other times, when staff was suppose to help my mom get to her hair appointments (just down the hall) they would not. It just didn't happen. If a family member was not there to take her, it simply didn't happen. My mom became very withdrawn and sad in a very short period of time. In contrast, her new home has one caregiver for every four patients. These caregivers are ALL full time highly trained employees. And they take good care of every one of their residents. My mom is gaining her weight back and is happier now. I am sorry if Charter is struggling with staff shortages, if that is even the case. But these are our family members. These are human beings, and should always be treated as human beings. Not looked at as more work that you do not have time for.

If you see my record for reviews I am pretty kind. My mother wa there from May 2016 to August 2016…read moreand I took her out before they killed her. Donna the Director of Nursing sat down with my sister and I to tell us that my mother was dying and only had days to live. "She squirles her food and we cannot get her to drink". I go into the room and my mother is crying and tells me she doesn't want to die. In short, she didn't stop eating, they stopped feeding her. Donna made calls for her to go to a hospice house. A specialist evaluated her and quickly reported she was in no way ready for hospice house. My sister tried to speak with the Director, Lynn Irvine and she told my sister, "I cannot focus on this right now. We are being interviewed by Hampton Road Show." I took her out ASAP and asked them to contact long term care with her exit info. Nine days and five phone calls later and I have a mother trying to recover from the damage done of not eating for days and bounced check because Morningside seems to pride itself on incompetence. They are part of Dominion Village so I cannot imagine that they are much better. Shortly after I posted the review I was contacted by Lynn Irvine the Director. She was very concerned and seemed to take my feedback very seriously. She assured me that changes were in the works and had a genuine passion for seeing a new path for the senior living community.

Hopefully, new management will be more objective in attempting to solve problems. I was totally unaware that my neck button did not turn off after I pushed it in good faith the other night, as it did the same that morning but was "fixed" by nice staff aide. However, later that night, I was accused of ringing it "every 10 minutes.. No one one believed me. (Found out later, the frequent alert calls were caused by a stuck fall alert neck button because the fall button was stuck . The night shift thought I was doing it on purpose and didn't even try to get explanation but decided to take it out on me by ignoring me and lying. Another aide said she would help and then as I turned to go down my hallway, she suddenly had to use bathroom and says she will be back. Still waiting to see her. One nurse in particular was mean to my mother and often made her cry. In addition, she was very rude and nasty to me. My mother, who was a happy person before we convinced her to move into assisted living, lived at Spring Arbor Williamsburg just over three months before dying of a catastrophic stroke, which I attribute to her ongoing distress about the way she was treated.
