Originally, my son's pediatrician referred us to CHKD for occupational therapy but they never returned my calls or the pediatrician's calls. I asked for a referral elsewhere and we found this gem. They immediately contacted me and we were able to schedule an assessment within a week. After having fought with CHKD for 3 months it was such a relief to have a person call me and talk to me.

They offered several types of exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles. I tried each of the exercises under their guidance, and together we talked about which ones I thought I could do at home myself. They printed those exercises for me to take home and do on my own. I have not needed a second session, but I would definitely choose to go back to them in ever in need of therapy. Parking is plentiful, and the location is easily accessible from Williamsburg or off of Rt. 64.

There weren't a ton of reviews I could find, so we went in a little skeptical. The parking lot is pretty spacious, while the exterior and interior are very clean and well maintained. My kiddo sees Kami, and I really like her. She seems like she actually enjoys her job and she's very patient. My kiddo is kinda apprehensive towards strangers but he warmed up to her well. They give you the option of letting them go back on their own, but you're welcome to go back with them. The helicopter mom in me makes me have to go back, but he doesn't seem distracted at all by my presence, probably because Kami has all the cool toys lol. Not sure what other kids do, but Kami has hands on toys for my son to use while working on words, think puzzles, playdoh, cars and even a Mr.Potato Head. We've been coming here a few months now and I'm happy with the sessions. I feel like he's starting to say more words properly and I'm understanding him a lot easier. I wish I could give more stars!  I absolutely love everyone here.  My son LOVES going to OT with…read moreMs. Megan.  She deserves a medal for her work with kiddos with unique needs!  Her flexibility, creativity and warm disposition make therapy a fun and inviting experience.  She makes it fun and follows the lead of my child which is extremely important to me.  The lovely ladies behind the front desk are so warm and welcoming.  They get to know the kiddos so they are greeted with a smile as they walk in the door.  My son has worked with 4 different OT's, we've had some unfortunate experiences.  I've learned what I like and what I don't like and Ivy rehab is a step above other centers.  I feel seen and heard, my son is also seen and respected.   It means so much to me that no one is trying to "fix" or change him, but instead, they are fostering a trust based, child led approach and building a relationship with him.  I needed someone to understand that many of his behaviors help him to regulate and are not harmful, that's exactly what I got. I know therapy and therapists are not one size fits all, but we are finally at home at Ivy rehab and my son feels loved.

My son's speech therapist is always irritated with him and needs to retire, I will be changing speech therapists soon. I've been told other speech therapists there are amazing though. So all in all this location is hit or miss and if it weren't for the great OT's, I would find another place altogether.

Dr. O'Shanick and his staff started taking care of me in 2006, two years after I received a…read moretraumatic brain injury from a dog attack. From 2004-2006 another local neurologist was treating my daily migraines and many other symptoms from the (as of that time undiagnosed) permanent brain injury that I received in the dog attack. This other neurologist's ONLY treatment for me was Vicodin, which was not helping me, it was only making it worse. He did not listen to me nor do an MRI. At the time that I first went to CNS I was barely able to speak in full sentences. Each morning would start with me being sick, from waking up with a migraine, so I could not be around bright lights w/o extreme pain in my head. I had a severe balance problem causing me to fall down three flights of stairs fracturing my spine in several places. I could go on, but you probably get the picture. Dr. O'Shanick listened to me. He properly diagnosed me and helped me with O.T., Speech Therapy, got me off of the Vicodin and on proper migraine therapy. After two years of daily migraines and not wanting to leave the darkness in my home, I finally started to function again! I could remember words when I would have a conversation with my kids. The migraines slowly went away, thank the Lord! I stopped falling, learning how to deal with my balance being 'off'. In short, thanks to Dr. O'Shanick, I actually feel 'human' again. That can only be understood by someone who has suffered a brain injury. I do still have ringing in my ears, but unfortunately that is permanent. This failure represents a serious breach of duty and may have directly contributed to his death. 2. Lack of Proper Staff Direction and Oversight Based on my observations and interactions, staff appeared to lack proper direction, supervision, and adherence to appropriate medical response protocols. This created an environment where urgent medical needs were not handled appropriately. 3. Failure to Communicate with Family For four (4) days following my father's death, I was unable to speak with any responsible authority at the facility who could explain the events surrounding his passing. This lack of communication is unacceptable and demonstrates a failure in both professionalism and regulatory compliance. 4. Lack of Urgency, Concern, and Accountability There appeared to be no appropriate sense of urgency or concern for my father's condition, either before or after his death. Additionally, no clear explanation or accountability has been provided by the facility to date.
