They also are constantly pressuring families to "upgrade" their services, claiming their loved ones need more care, but when you read the contracts, they aren't providing half the care you're paying for. It's continued to get worse during and since the pandemic and they can't seem to keep the place clean now. My mom's apartment is filthy every time I go in to see her and I'm the one that ends up having to clean it. It's one of the highest priced Retirement Communities in the Williamsburg area and they should be ashamed of the service you get for the prices you pay.

Following my father's departure from the facility (that's another review, for another day), Brookdale continued to withdraw funds from my parents' bank account. They were unhelpful in resolving this matter, suggesting we contact the bank to stop payment (financial institution says resolution should be achieved in 10 days) and 30-45 days for Brookdale to refund the remaining portion. Please know that you or your loved one may be putting their finances in peril when dealing with their front office and that they are indifferent to concerns and legitimate issues.

We paid out of pocket for their CPR cards, drove out of our way to render service at a reduced price, and they refuse to pay. These are people who are in charge of making sure your loved ones are cared for. If you knew how rudely they have treated myself and my husband then you may think twice about leaving your loved one there. I have one star because they were nice in the beginning.

Guests need to check in and have their picture taken. First floor reminds me of a nice hotel. The flower arrangements are real! They offer a theater, activity rooms (pool, ping pong , puzzles etc ). There is also a nice fitness center with a pool and a hot tub. I haven't seen the dining room or library but I am told they have an excellent burger and the library has a variety of different reads. There are different floors depending on the residents' needs. There is assisted living floor , a mental illness floor and retirement community floor. The units are large and customized. The view of the Elizabeth river from the "old" building is gorgeous. I do know they have medical and physical therapy on site too which is very convenient. I've only heard good things about the quality of care. So far I am very pleased with where my family is going to be living out the rest of their many years. I will be visiting often. Lastly, it is very convenient that Dumar's and Orapax are so close. Highly recommend dining there!

The one bedroom I visited was very comfortable and spacious for one or two people. It has a nice size livingroom, and kitchen. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, a closet and your washer and dryer in it. Apartments come with a balcony, or a side room with a great window! The facility has a library, fitness room, a patio and plenty of activities both on campus and off. The apartment is located near the mall and close enough stores of all kinds and restaurants.

Shall go into further detail with proper officials. 1:51am Saturday and Sunday pm even, I have my fall alert neck button on my rolling chair --not my neck. (Found out later, the frequent alert calls were caused by a stuck fall alert neck button because the fall button was stuck . The night shift thought I was doing it on purpose and didn't even try to get explanation but decided to take it out on me by ignoring me and lying. Another aide said she would help and then as I turned to go down my hallway, she suddenly had to use bathroom and says she will be back. Still waiting to see her. To others who may be staying here, be careful. You never know when you may make a mistake and the staff takes it out on you.

My mother was a resident of Charter's Memory Care wing. During the few months she was there she…read morelost a great deal of weight, had three diagnosed UTIs and broke her hip. We have since moved her to a new location that does not use the excuse that everyone, everywhere is short staffed. Here are a handful of reasons I am rating Charter one star. Charter uses contractors a lot from what I was told. Of the staff in the memory care wing, they seldom smiled, mostly seemed put out when you asked them anything, and many times you just couldn't find anyone to help. My mom's laundry disappeared a lot. And her room over the time she was there started to smell of urine. Other times, when staff was suppose to help my mom get to her hair appointments (just down the hall) they would not. It just didn't happen. If a family member was not there to take her, it simply didn't happen. My mom became very withdrawn and sad in a very short period of time. In contrast, her new home has one caregiver for every four patients. These caregivers are ALL full time highly trained employees. And they take good care of every one of their residents. My mom is gaining her weight back and is happier now. I am sorry if Charter is struggling with staff shortages, if that is even the case. But these are our family members. These are human beings, and should always be treated as human beings. Not looked at as more work that you do not have time for.
