My husband and I bought a new house recently, and had an attic full of asbestos that we wanted to…read moreget rid of before we moved in. I spoke with four different asbestos abatement professionals, had two of them over to the house to interview/get a formal proposal, and Dudley won the project, hands down. They weren't the cheapest (24' x 26' attic was $7,500 to clear, testing included) but they were absolutely the best, most professional, and knowledgable.
It's relatively easy to get an abatement license in Massachusetts, a 5 day class for project managers, 2 day classes for workers, and bam -- you're licensed! Unfortunately, many don't take the job seriously and there are a lot of people using improper containment procedures, improper PPE (one contractor said he used paint fume respirators. What?), don't remove it fully, don't apply enough (or any) negative pressure to the space, etc. Sam really knew his stuff and went above and beyond to make everything safe.
They worked quickly, efficiently, and extremely safely. Anti-contamination procedures were followed to a T, I never saw anyone wandering around in PPE, all that came out of the airlock was asbestos encased in properly labeled secure containers, they did air testing before and after. The attic was scrubbed, spotless, and no residual debris was left. They were very communicative, told me each day when they were going to be in and out, and even made sure my house was locked up if I had to leave before they did.
As a bonus, they accepted credit card payments online (and 7,500 is a nice chunk of credit card points!). Like I said, they're not the cheapest, but this is my family home, and they do the job RIGHT. The extra $1,000 (what they cost over the other proposal I received) was well worth it for my safety and peace of mind.
