A few times a year this center has a fund raiser and I just happened to see a mention of it in the…read morepaper that it was being held this last Thursday! Not much notice there! What they sell are a few food items... Indian Fry bread, Tacos on Indian Fry bread, did I mention Indian Fry bread? I had read a review recently on the Chowhound site. A traveler just stumbling over this sale last year when she was driving through town, & saw a 'sandwich board' sign out front advertising Indian Tacos. Her review & timely occurence of the sale convinced me I had to try it. I'd never had fry bread before-- it sounded good to me. So I decided to get 2 to go & surprise John with lunch. I walked into the storefront center, into a room with dining tables all filled with happy eaters. A little confusion over who was taking orders, but finally a young girl came from the kitchen to help me. Another young girl was busy at one of the tables chopping up tomatoes-- seemed an odd place to be doing food prep. But this was a real community place & the Indian community was supporting their center that day. In this part of Mendocino & Lake county we have the Pomo Indians and a reservation north of town also. Now that I think of it, there are also several casinos scattered around too! It was a bit of a wait, but 2 large, heavy to-go styrofoam containers came out for me. $5 each... they smelled delicious. I ran John's lunch over to his office... he seemed to be waiting by the front door, but he says he just happened to be passing through the office!! HA The Indian Taco was very good, had all the fresh ingredients... meat, real beans, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato. In my mind I pictured fry bread as being thin & crispy, but this was thick & doughy-- but hot & tasted great. it was way too much food for me and very filling. Next year maybe we'll share one.

They have a regular following of loyal seniors in the recreation room . Where coffee is provided at a suggested donation .a small selection of books are also available with a check out honor system . A few of the local homeless tend to flock here for various reasons , a meal , conversation or to see if anyone has left over pastries or cookies or food from pot lucks etc . One of them has the cutest well behaved little Dog named Jake ! You may hear some colorful language from the pool players once in a while hear the best places to fish and get political views mixed in with a few military war stories and trips and travels around the globe . Thoughts on marriage , the world today or a free SMILE from Dave that carries a cutout from a cheerio box in his pocket and will flash it at anyone being grumpy or negative ; it's all part of the charm . They have a choral group, yoga and line dancing and a variety of special events and drop in classes at affordable rates . You save 50 cents a class by purchasing a senior center card and pre paying for sessions . Lunch is served at a suggested donation, seems like a lot of fish is cooked by the smell , I have never tried it . The senior age is 55 and up although most of the visitors seem to be 70 plus It would be nice if they added more outdoor seating and tables as well as maybe a bench and at least one umbrella because it can get very Hot inside and they have no AC .

I have never written a yelp review for a facility that I visit. I've seen this facility go through management changes some of which were not ideal. But I can say with total confidence that I would trust the current management of Carla and Alexis with my loved ones should they need the kind of care offered there. I don't encounter many caregivers who truly care about their residents and facilities that are compliant with state regulations, of which, Vine Ridge excels in both. I have quite literally felt the energy of this facility change for the better when Carla became the executive director. They care for their residents like they are family.

My father was in the early stages of Alzheimer's and we needed a safe place for him as he could not be trusted to adhere to all Covid-19 precautions. Vine Ridge was such a huge help. They transitioned him into the facility and kept him well cared for and safe when we had struggled. The staff - especially David - is fantastic. The facility is brand new and feels clean and welcoming. We are grateful everyday for their kindness.
