I was not impressed by this place at all. Definitely avoid if you are a guy looking for a hair system. They took 10+ months to get a proper color match and system ordered. Their suppliers take forever and their process to order produced several units of the completely wrong color. They ignored my complaints every time at the initial cut ins. My concerns were not taken seriously such as being fit with the wrong color, being fit with an inappropriate hair system for my needs, etc. My first consult with them I asked what they did for someone who wants a low density system with an exposed hairline. They told me not to worry about it but when it came time to install the hair, they recommended not having an exposed hairline because they can be "hard to manage". Why wasn't that mentioned at the consultation before I paid? The stylist's seem to avoid wanting to use glue on their systems which is known to be the most realistic hairlines. Even though I complained the system sat too high on my head and looked inappropriate, they insisted on using a clip on system rather than gluing a lace system. Their consultation and recommendations were beyond inappropriate for what I asked for at my consultation and subsequent fittings. The staff has no sense of urgency. They had no problem taking my money but as soon as I paid I had to keep contacting them to see when I would receive my hair. 5 months from payment to first cut-in is longer than any other salon I've ever seen. And it was the wrong color after all of that! For $1,500 I am disappointed in their lack of experience (stylist had less than a year experience doing hair systems) Lack of support for the hair system (I had to ask them how to maintain it, what products to use, how to put it on, etc.) They don't include any glue or tape for the user to use at home. They also don't CUT YOUR HAIR. Yes for $1,500 they don't even cut your own bio hair underneath the hair system. That costs extra. Overall I don't really see any redeeming quality about this place. They genuinely messed up in every part of the experience and made it a terrible experience to have to go through. I'm so glad I was able to find another salon that meets my needs for a third of the cost. Not sure why William Collier can charge 3x as much as other places but not have the basics down yet. I went here during COVID to find a wig for bad hair days. I was not given enough time to look through enough wigs, tho I did find one which suited me in cut and color - I think it was the 2nd or 3rd I'd seen. I would have liked to have seen more, but I felt I was being pressured to pick THAT one and leave. I'm not sure why I was given short shrift, there was no need for it as they weren't busy. I brought my best friend here for a consultation and it was such a pleasant experience. This was her feedback: When I was 14 it was discovered that I had a cancerous tumor in my head. The radiation therapy, not as precise as it is today, burned the hair follicles over the entire back of my head. After that, the hair that was there has not been able to grow back. [I am now 41.] Since then I have relied on scarves, wigs, weaves and hair pieces to cover my head. [I have tried numerous wigs, weaves and hair systems.] My friend Jasmin found William Collier on the internet and when I was visiting her from LA, we went. All I can say is OMG. Everyone that works here is so incredibly kind! And it's a genuine heartfelt kindness, not just a business fueled kindness. They all helped make a difficult time in my life (losing my hair to chemo) a little easier. A couple weeks prior to losing my hair, Alejandro gave me a cute short cut. And when the day came, William, the owner, assisted me with shaving it the rest of the way off. Stephanie helped me find a beautiful human hair wig that looked so much like my natural hair color and helped me style it so that I could go home feeling good about myself. She even gave me her own barrette to pull my hair back with as i struggled to get confidence wearing my wig for the first time. I've felt very supported, respected and uplifted with kindness each time I've been here. They also provide complete privacy at all times, which means they ask that you wait in your car until they call you in. I think this is a nice gesture so that you don't need to worry about feeling embarrassed or ashamed due to your hair loss. The wig selection is amongst the best in the area. AVOID! My hair shedding increased significantly after one color treatment and the shedding has lasted for more than three weeks. This place is supposed to specialize in thinning hair. (Specialize in thinning out your hair would be more accurate) Turns out they don't use organic color (they use Wella). They over processed my hair. I've had more shedding for a longer period of time than I've ever had after coloring my hair at any number of salons who don't "specialize in thinning hair." Their message below about "working with me" to resolve the problem was they had me call the manufacturer, which amounted to a wild goose chase, only for the manufacturer to tell me they couldn't do anything about it. Then William Collier stopped returning my calls when I tried to follow up with them directly. When I told them about the shedding, they made innuendos about my health. They've done everything possible to avoid responsibility for what happened. Before going my hair was very health and my hair shedding was minimal. Three weeks since the visit and I'm still shedding like a cat in the summertime. They've offered me neither a solution, nor a refund for what amounted to spending more than $200 for them to ruin my hair. What a nightmare. STAY AWAY! read more

When getting my cancer diagnosis at 32 years old, one of my first thoughts was, "Holy crap, I am going to loose my hair." As a full time working mom of a toddler I was more worried about freaking my child out as I went bald and looking professional at the same time rather than the fact that I was sick. My oncologist suggested William Collier Design as an option for my cranial prosthesis, or "wig" rather. It was the only place I checked out, and I was so over the top impressed with every detail of my consult and the wig I chose. I met with Judi, who was very kind and very informative. I went into the consult super overwhelmed and unsure which route I wanted to go. I left so excited and ready to shave my head in anticipation for my hair loss. A week or so later my hair started falling out so I made my appointment to go in and have my wig fitted. I love they have Saturday hours. I met with Tiffany (I believe) who taught me how to put my wig on and style it. She was very sweet making sure I felt comfortable with it and made the whole shaving my head process fun. I've been meaning to make this post for a while... but I wish I could give this studio 10000 stars on Yelp! Without a doubt, I have had the most impressive experience with William Collier Design! My entire life I've had fine, thin hair-- it runs in my family on both sides. Over the course of the last couple of years I've also had some medical issues that have led it to thin out a bit more than normal, making it look extra limp and lifeless. I have very long hair that grows very quickly, but I haven't felt comfortable wearing my hair down without extensions for about a year, because it just has looked so blaaah. I've always had such a love/hate relationship with regular off-the-shelf hair extensions for a couple of reasons. While they give me the volume I'm looking for, they also pull on my fine hair. I also find it incredibly hard to find the right color match for my hair because it is so dark and neutral without having any copper/blonde/red in it... yet it is also not jet black. To make things even more complicated, I have blue streaks dyed into my dark hair, which obviously makes any off-the-shelf option even harder to match. As a result, they never quite blend just how I'd like or looked just as I wanted. In comes William Collier Design! I reached out to their team on Yelp, and within a matter of hours Judi got back to me with some potential solutions to help better color-match my hair as well as relieve some of the tension on my strands from hair extensions. I was able to get a 1:1 appointment with her in a matter of days. She gave me her undivided attention and helped me pick something out that would suit my needs perfectly. The hairstylist Amanda was then able to color the piece to match both my natural dark hair color as well as my blue streaks to blend everything seamlessly. William was also careful to work with me and cut everything to make sure the piece blended in nicely with my natural hair as well. I honestly couldn't be happier with the results. I feel like every part of the process was completely tailored to my needs, and I never once felt pressured. Wow, I'm so glad I chose to come here! First off, I appreciated their response to the COVID-19 pandemic and additional precautions they took to make everyone feel comfortable. They take your temp upon entrance and customers wash their hands. All employees had masks and face shields on. There was hand sanitizer in every room and my credit card was passed back to me sanitized. I meant to come here years ago but wasn't in a place to deal with my hair loss. Happy I finally made it but I wish I had shut down that internal dialog sooner. Of course I was terrified of change and trusting strangers, but I ended up leaving in good tears. My hair has been thinning for about 15 years. I spent thousands of dollars putting extensions in my hair for 6 years. It really didn't cover the bald spots and I used messy hair powder. I visited William Collier in July of this year and met with Judy and her staff. She showed me different options and after examining my type of hair loss, she suggested a topper, which I didn't even know existed. I tried them on and was like "Wow!" I was super excited and scared at the same time, because I wasn't sure about the investment and if I would like it. I kind of flip flopped while trying to make the decision to go for it and along the way Judy answered any question I had with kindness and reassurances. I went for a beautiful Folea topper 12", they colored and trimmed it for me, it looked great! I got home, my husband loved it! A few days later I got totally weird about it and thought it was too much of a change, to thick...which is crazy, because I was looking for a solution to my thinning hair, now I had it and I didn't know how to handle it I guess. This is a really wonderful place. I meant to write a review several months ago, but better late than never. I am experiencing hair loss and I found WIlliam Collier Design on Yelp. I got mixed up and thought it was a hair-cutting place (which they do also) and requested a consultation with Judi. I thought she would be giving me suggestions on how to cut my hair. One thing that is great about WCD is that they have a small parking lot which is provided for their clients. That is a rarity in the downtown area. When I showed up, I sat down and first was greeted by employees sweet little pup - so right away I loved the place. I met Judi quickly thereafter and I went to get my consultation. I realized right away that I was getting a consultation for a hair piece and told Judi that although I am losing my hair, I am not at the point where I am ready to have a hairpiece or wig. She understood, and asked me if I would like to see the products on me anyway, since I had driven to their salon., and I said, "sure!". WCD has an amazing selection of wigs and hairpieces made of many different types of real and synthetic hair. It was really interesting learning about all the products they carry and Judi was very fun and informative to talk with. She also introduced me to another staff member who does cut hair at WCD. My partner has experienced some hair loss, and as a semi-regular client of WCD, decided to have a partial hairpiece made. She saw Echo, who took the measurements and did the fitting, as well as trimmed my partner's hair. When we returned a couple of months later for the piece, we realized that it didn't match my partner's natural hair at all. Echo suggested sending it back to the vendor and have some adjustments made, at no cost to us, and we agreed. The vendor refused to make any adjustments, so my partner emailed WCD, asking for a refund. After about three weeks of no response, we returned to WCD to speak with Nancy, who describes herself as William's assistant. Nancy claimed that she never received an email from us, and tried to blame everything on Echo, who is no longer with the company. After looking in my partner's file, Nancy promised a full refund, asking for my partner's information, including credit card number and address. Since it was near the end of the day on July 3rd, she promised to post the refund on Friday the 5th. We never received a refund, and we haven't gotten the hairpiece back, either. We contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint, and it is posted to their website. We strongly encourage you to read it before doing business with this company. read more

I have hair loss as a result of bariatric surgery, and it's been getting progressively worse. I was really stressed out about it, and was so scared to walk into a wig shop and feel embarrassed. Luckily I ran across reviews here for William Collier Design, and took the leap. They are not a wig shop, they're professionals who specialize in what they do. Yes, you will probably spend more here than you would at a wig shop, but you'll also end up with a wig that looks like your real hair, not a wig. Isn't that the whole point? I had a private consultation with Judi, who was extremely kind and helpful, and took her time in answering all of my questions completely. Everyone there made me feel completely at ease. Judi asked me about my price range and didn't try to push her priciest hairpieces. I ended up ordering a custom wig that exactly matches my shade of hair and is miles above anything I'd find in a wig shop quality-wise. I'll have to wait 2 months for it to arrive, but I can't wait. They've made this such a low-stress experience for me, I can't recommend them enough. BUYER BEWARE. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and told I would lose my hair by my oncologist, went to see these people for a wig. I purchased one and the stylist trimmed the bangs a bit on it. She never mentioned to me that by putting scissors to it I was giving up my right to any return or exchange. When my hair did fall out, I tried to use it and the wig was uncomfortable and unflattering. To be honest it was an emotional/panic purchase and expensive!! It was a synthetic wig for $600! When I asked for some sort of help (exchange) and even offered to pay a restocking fee for return, I was nicely told (with apology), too bad, so sad because it was cut. They really should be more forthcoming to people. read more

They were very nice to fit me into a busy Saturday when I called the day before. When I arrived, they told me I was actually going to be scheduled with some one other than originally planned. I got a cut and some hair care instruction. Then I got charged $150 for it. Hairstyle fail. Too rich for my blood. Probably not going back, even though the cut was fine and I'm sure a lot of specialized training goes into the stylists' work there. I wish they had let me know about the likely cost beforehand, I just heard of this place by word of mouth and that it would be around $80 (ballpark), which is far below what I got charged. My hair has been thinning and I was very concerned about a deep part on the crown of my head. The part seemed to be more pronounced as a result of my hair loss and I was concerned the hair loss would continue and I would need a hair piece. I made an appointment and met with one of the specialists. She was wonderful. She inspected my scalp and part and advised me against using their services. She spoke to me about my hair loss which she felt was temporary. She took the time to speak with me and ally my fears of going bald and needing a wig or hair piece. I wish I could give more stars! My hair was coming out in clumps from Lupus which made me feel so stressed-- I was wearing hats every day and felt like I was losing an integral part of my appearance. I went to William Collier for a consultation and their approach made me feel so comfortable-- compassionate, knowledgeable, and warm people who focus on the solution, not the problem. After getting my topper I didn't feel comfortable with the color so they re-dyed it to make sure it felt as natural as possible to me. My 15 year old daughter and I had gone to several wig shops and places for cancer patients but nothing she saw was exactly what she wanted. I told her she may need to get something that was the best of what she would settle for. As the last place to go because I knew it was going to be more expensive than the other wig places, we went to WCD. She saw William who was very professional, kind, just a lovely person. Nancy also helped us throughout our entire process who was wonderful also. When I saw the look of happiness on my daughters face as she had on the wig that she had wanted all along, i knew I couldn't refuse her. William was the first person who really listened to her and knew exactly what look she wanted. The wig was more than I wanted to spend but it was something that I knew would give her confidence to show her face when she lost all her hair. I felt it may help her to have one ray of happiness during her awful cancer treatment. This is exactly what happened! However the first wig we received ended up coming apart at some of the seams. William gave her a more expensive, better quality wig and sent the first wig back to the manufacturer to get fixed. My daughter was even more elated with this new wig. The hair was softer, it was longer, the blonde color was better, and the cap was a lace type which was better than the first wig. He never charged us for this upgraded 2nd wig. So we essentially got 2 wigs for one. They just have been so extremely kind and helpful to us throughout all our dealings with them.
