This is well overdue. I found this office a year and a half ago on their website and through yelp. Carrie the front office staff is genuine and very helpful. Heidi the office manager is also friendly and will be very knowledgeable for your decision making. The dental staff are very helpful and genuine which can be rare in some cases today, as far as Dr. Willes well, he is just awesome, he will not recommend something you don't need regardless of price for him, this is about you and your smile, and he is just as friendly as his staff. I recently finished up with my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Willes. My treatment lasted approximately two years. The entire experience from start to finish was very easy, and the visits were enjoyable each time I went to Dr. Willes' office. I can't say enough about Dr. Willes and the staff. Carrie, the receptionist is always so friendly and continually greets you with a warm smile and friendly personality. I don't know how she does all that she does up front by herself, but she is a pro and never makes you feel like a burden. I've actually seen her out and about in Carlsbad and she was just as friendly and even remembered me. Marissa, the gal who does all the finances greets me every time she sees me as well, and she is just as friendly. All of the assistants are top notch, Dr. Willes is lucky to have each and every one of them. They always remember details about me and ask me things that I/we talked about last time. They feel more like friends that I am visiting with. They truly care about each of their patients, and did such a great job making me feel special every time that I had an appointment. Even when I am getting worked on by one assistant, and the other assistants are with other patients, they all say hi to me and ask me about things going on in my life. Dr. Willes is one of a kind. I have met plenty of orthodontists (as I am in the dental industry), and few have the personality and friendliness that he has, on top of the excellence in dentistry that he provides. He cares about his patients, and does anything he can to make them happy. He asks how things feel and if you are happy the entire way. He's also very good at explaining things without making you feel like a question you asked is stupid. He is for sure an expert in his field. He has done a great job cultivating a very down to earth, caring, and inviting practice. I love my smile, it was totally worth going through orthodontics. To top things off, when my treatment was finished they gave me the cutest little goodie bag. That was the icing on the cake. I was already so satisfied with the outcome of my treatment, I could not of been happier. I am beyond happy with Dr. Willes . I have been trying to get my son to get braces for a while. Now that he is 18 I thought it would never happen . We love Dr. Willes, and have been going to his office since 2008 for two children.The small office is incredibly professional yet personal, with an upbeat and positive vibe that's infectious. They do a great job of explaining the process and working with patients, parents and insurance companies to make orthodontics affordable. We started with the kids around 8 yrs old, as their dentist recommend we talk to him. By starting treatment early, it corrected things as they grew, plus it helped spread out the cost. They're also very good about getting you in and out quickly and we've never had to wait more than a couple minutes. They say "like attracts like" and Dr. Willes has great people working for him. I never write reviews, but I was pretty disappointed with Dr. Willes. I transferred care over to him because I moved from out of state. He probably took off my braces too soon because now I have gaps between my teeth and food gets stuck between them. My last visit was today and he pretty much said "oh well" and sent me on my way. He tried tightening my retainers for the past 10 months with no improvements and now I'm stuck with gaps between my teeth. And to conclude the visit, i was told by the receptionist that if I want to get my retainers tighten in the future I have to pay a 35 visit fee. For him to tighten them with no improvements? No thank you. And to top it off, as I was leaving out the front door, I over heard him ask the receptionist if she told me that...not very professional. read more

I really like Dr Willes but his front office is unprofessional and they didn't take X-rays for consultation . My biggest issue was the treatment plan per Dr. Willes didn't match 2700 estimate from office manager. He recommended holding off or maybe just bracing tops but then he leaves and his office manager gives me a is $2700 bill for expander. He actually said that expander would be a waste since my son was only 1mm from normal. That not what the doctor recommended so why is that written up. When I asked I didn't get an explanation and I was done. Finally, they didn't take any X-rays for consultation. I had five consultation and all four took X-rays. Reason for 5 consult; I had two ortho in east county in May/June and then we moved up north in late July so I got two more to avoid driving and hour each way to old dentist/ortho. One ortho was 1500 more than others so I went to Dr Willes on recommendation from the east county ortho. We decided on another ortho and my son has braces. I really like Dr Willes. He spoke clearly and directly. But his office manager and front office left me feeling unsure and uneasy. Also xray really needed to be taken for a full picture of treatment. read more

All 3 of our teenagers got traditional braces from Dr. Willes. We lived in San Diego when we first started going to see Dr. Willes and drove all the way to Carlsbad, because he's worth the drive. All three of our kids have beautiful smiles. I opted for Invisalign and I am really happy with the results. I was very picky about how I wanted my teeth to look, and Dr. Willes took all the time necessary to understand what my concerns were and addressed them. He explains what is & what isn't possible. Both my daughters have been seeing Dr. Willes for their braces; one for 4 years (2-step phase, a great recommendation on Dr. Willes' part) and one for 1 1/2 yrs. Myself and my three boys all go to Dr Willes and since the day we had our free consolation I haven't stopped raving to people about his practice! The staff is always friendly and making you feel like you're a part of the office family. Dr Willes is patient and has great bedside manner, with a more hands off approach, never recommending something that can wait for a better time. We came from another ortho office that seemed really pushy after we had been there a couple years and after asking around to all my friends with older kids in brances, they ALL came back saying Dr. Willes is the best. They were correct! I even went back to my dentist who referred me to our first ortho and told him that I know Dr. Willes is farther in distance from him but I make the drive because I'm so happy there and he HAS to refer there instead. My daughter was diagnosed with a cross-bite as a toddler. We were fortunate to be referred to Dr. Willes by our dentist. I am a doctor's daughter and my uncle was a dentist so I am familiar with the intricacies of running a medical office. I give Dr. Willes and his staff my highest praise and recommend them without reservation. Dr. Willes saw my daughter annually for about 5 years completely free of charge to monitor her progress. When she was ready for a palate spacer, Dr. Willes was able to proceed with the most conservative, least invasive of treatments because of the careful monitoring he had done. When she was ready for Phase One braces and subsequent retainer, Dr. Willes and his team went above and beyond to provide outstanding care. The office is very well managed by Carrie and intake is handled with warmth by Marissa. The techs are all seasoned and sensitive to each patient's needs. It was Dr. Willes' continued, patient observation that helped my daughter receive timely extractions and avoid unnecessary complications. We are now ready for Phase Two and I am relieved to say that braces will cost less than previously anticipated. Between the Phase Two discount offered by Dr. Willes as a courtesy to loyal patients and their conservative approach with my daughter she will need braces for considerably less time; I am overjoyed.
