This review is long overdue. I was a customer at their old burned out location in downtown White Stone. Fresh food and a great view from this steamship shaped building on the Rappahannock River. Great burgers, bbq, sandwich menu. A very creative kitchen that knows how to source fresh ingredients. The specials are always good. We stumbled upon this restaurant and had a great breakfast with an excellent review. All five of us the breakfast buffet which was reasonably priced. The sausage gravy and biscuits were great. So were the cheese potatoes. Everything else was good too bit those were standouts. Nothing beats the view. And our server, Tia, was fantastic! Thanks Tia for taking such great care of us! read more

Nice casual waterfront restaurant with a good number of craft beers on tap. Lunch menu was varied and food was really good; try the clam chowder for a thin-base chock full of clams; the chili was rich and hearty; and the Kentucky bourbon pecan pie the best I've had - full of chopped pecans held together with just enough bourbon-infused filling to make it hold together. Service was prompt and friendly. Restaurant was mostly full while we were there. We'll be back! read more

Save room for dessert, all of which are made there. Went for lunch. I've heard more then once that lunch is better than dinner. Stand out item was waffle fries. A must try. And the lemon cake was great. Will definitely go back when in town. read more

Willaby's has the best burgers in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula! The burgers are fresh, cooked to perfection, and delicious....and there is a variety of flavors offered in the menu as well as a blackboard special. This place was awful. When we walked in the hostess showed us to a specific table and when we suggested another one the hostess rolled her eyes at us then threw the menus on the table! The rude behavior didn't stop there. Our waiter was obnoxious throughout the entire meal! It was ridiculous... The menu only had a few selections--their beer list was longer than their menu! Oh and the view? It's of a crane in the river. No view, no service, no menu. Skip this place. read more

They close at 3 for lunch and reopen at 5. Not knowing this we arrived at 2:40 and wasn't sure if they would be annoyed with us...totally the opposite. They were very inviting, the place is super casual with nice views. They had an excellent beer menu and a decent food menu. We opted for beer and and both had Ruebens. Service was quick and the Ruebens were awesome. Will definitely be back next time we are back in town. read more

I wish I could recommend Willaby's but I just can't. We have given them several chances and seems like it just gets worse each time. The food is great but the service is awful. Last night we walked out after we sat there for 10 minutes. The lady who seated us came over 5 mins later and asked for our drinks. 10 mins later our supposedly waitress was bussing tables before she even came over and acknowledged us. When the girl came back with our drinks we told her we were leaving. She told us our waitress would be right over and that the waitress was busting tables just helping her out (meanwhile nobody was waiting for a table). So why was the girl who brought us our drinks not bussing the tables and our waitress waiting on us?! Seems so backwards. So we left and went somewhere else and most likely won't be back. My family came up from Newport News, VA and down from Potomac MD for a special going away dinner for a military member of the family. We had hoped to be able to have a nice family dinner followed by some toasts and well wishes to honor him. Unfortunately we chose to go on a Friday night when they had a duo singing, who was right next to our table, and enhanced by an overhead speaker pointing directly at our table. Needless to say, conversation,yet alone any type of toasts were impossible. After our meal, we left without being about to honor our family member who will be shipping out next week. So while I could compliment the food and the service, I will not be going back there as the whole experience left a bad feeling (even after I asked to speak to the manager who was not available, and mentioned it directly to the person who was more than happy to take my credit card in payment for our over $210.00 meal)... read more

Willaby's Restaurant is at a great location on the Rappahannock River in White Stone, VA. The views of the Rivah are absolutely beautiful... I can't wait to go back just to see the sunset. That would be awesome and romantic... Anyway, back to the restaurant ... It has a great atmosphere, great staff and prompt service, but most of all the food was delicious. I started out with the Oyster Stew, which was both creamy and buttery with just the right amount of spices and oysters. I ended up picking up the cup and finishing it off so I would get the last drop. For the main entree, I chose the crab cake sandwich and choose onion rings instead of the hush puppies and coke slaw. GREAT CHOICE, I have to admit! The crab cake had very little filler if any and was superb! And the onion rings were cooked perfectly without being greasy. Came in a on a crazy Friday night. People were everywhere, but the staff was attentive and super nice. I love the williaburger (I am pretty sure that's what it's called.) But the hushpuppies were the best. Hands down best hush puppies ever. I heard the seafood is good but I didn't try any except for the clam chowder (very good) the menu is actually pretty big and there is something for everyone for sure. Soooo what are you waiting for? Quaint restaurant with a great view of the Rappahannock River and bridge. The food is consistently simple, yet good. I have 2 favorites that I usually alternate choosing from: chicken salad and the BLT. The chicken salad has grapes, walnuts, manderin oranges and red onions. I like the varying textures and tastes that accompany this sandwich. The BLT is always made with fresh produce and crisp bacon, creating another simple yet stellar sammich. Throw a side of hush puppies and it's the perfect lunch date! Those suckers are piping hot, making your butter meltdown instantly. It's crunchy outside coating gives way to a dense cornmeal and onion middle. I can just taste them now... My mother is a big fan of the club sandwich and the willaburger. Right along side her order of hush puppies! The staff at Willaby's usually provide good service. There have been a few along the way who have obviously needed an attitude adjustment or some work on their appearance, but for the most part they're all good-natured, hardworking people. read more

Went here for lunch. Great view and you can sit outside and look at the water. The place is casual with a chill vibe, a bar, and booths. My husband and I both had fried oyster po' boys and they were delicious. Well balanced flavors, oysters perfectly fried. I also had a side salad of mixed greens with an Italian vinaigrette that was delicious and tasted like it was made in house. The restaurant loses a star because the service, though friendly, was very slow. We read previous reviews that said that if you sit outside the service is particularly slow. This was absolutely the case in my experience. The ownership should read these reviews and figure out how to speed up the service. Maybe they need to hire more waitstaff. read more

My wife and I visited Willaby's last night, and the food and service were both excellent. We had the oysters and found them to be some of the best we have ever eaten. We also got to meet with some friends, who play with the band "Legacy." I thought the band would be good, but they are terrific! The atmosphere and the whole experience are worth the commute! Pros were great live music, the bread and the view. Cons were the clueless hostess, the slow wait staff and the only so-so food. To top it off, our table, my seat and the wall adjacent to our table were crawling with dozens of sugar ants during our seating. How could they not notice these when they were everywhere? (We kept squashing them with the kids' disposable menus. After our food came, I tried to hold them down under my salad plate.) Our family of two adults and two freaked out kids ate quickly and left. We told our waitress about the ants but management never came by to do anything about our situation or move us. I think the reasons to visit this establishment are the view, the bar and the live music. It is small, so go on the early side on nights when they have music. I hope they do something about the ants. This place was having a rough time on a rainy, summer weekend night. They were very busy. My party of 3 stood at the "Wait to be Seated" sign for 15 minutes before our first greeting of "Be right with you." I spotted three tables loaded with stacked, dirty dishes and impatiently waving guests trying to pay their bills to evacuate the chaos. The line behind us got longer, then much shorter as many of those waiting gave up hope. There was nobody at the front greeting guests or taking names. We were finally seated after waiting about 35 minutes. Our party had memorized the menu during our wait, so we placed our drink and food order upon being cheerfully greeted by our server. Very nice draft beer selection. Our food took about 30 minutes to arrive, but we got ours before others seated prior to us. My crab cake was visibly burnt to the point I'm surprised our server let it fly. My fried oysters had gotten cold and soggy - apparently while waiting for the crab cake to come to a full char. The collard greens were tough and the grits were room temperature. My beer was cold, fresh, delicious. read more

We revisited Willaby's after a long hiatus. We hadn't even been to this location. We were pleasantly surprised. Our lunch was timely, good-looking and tasty - including delicious hush puppies. Service was good. The view is great. I remember their pies to be very good. We will go again. The only blemish for me is that they use generic ketchup. When I don't see Heinz, I think a restaurant is cutting corners on food costs. read more

It's a holiday weekend, we saw the menu online and we're all set for a nice brunch of eggs Chesapeake and shrimp and grits, waited in a line for at least 20 minutes and then when we were seated we were told that the only thing available was the buffet!!! Was very happy to find Willaby's. Went by boat and just beached the boat while we were there. Food was really very nice and we had a great and attentive waitress named Angela. She took care of the 4-year old and 1-3/4- year old immediately so that we could relax and order drinks and a nice meal. Oyster sandwich was excellent. Great hush puppies. read more

Willaby's was a great local find! The friendly, attentive waitstaff were efficient and well versed with their menu. The specials, a 16 oz Porterhouse Steak, and Rack of Ribs both came with 2 side choices. We debated the size of the portions, but figured leftovers would be welcomed the next day...Our dinners arrived in a timely fashion and we enjoyed every delicious bite! The T-bone side of the porterhouse was just as tender as the fillet side and was butter soft with nice seasoning. We ordered medium rare and that is exactly how it was served. The ribs had a nice spicy kick and that fall-off-the-bone goodness that makes you want to lick off every finger!!! The homemade Mac and cheese, collard greens, and baked potato were great sides. We stopped for dinner, their lunch menu is different. We are looking forward to trying their famous, Tangier Island Hot Crab Dip the next time, but be warned it's only available on their dinner menu.
