It was obvious that the animals are very well cared for and loved, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The gift shop was also fantastic well stocked with a great selection of unique souvenirs and gifts. I left with a smile on my face and can't wait to visit again. I highly recommend the Big Bear Alpine Zoo to anyone visiting the area!

The animals appeared to be well cared for, and I appreciated the focus on conservation efforts and protecting local wildlife. Being able to see some of these animals up close was definitely a cool experience. There were quite a few different animals throughout the zoo, although depending on when you visit, there may or may not be animals out in certain exhibits. I also liked that each exhibit had its own information card with additional details about the animals. It was helpful to learn more about what we were seeing and added a little more to the overall experience. Overall, I enjoyed spending some time here. It's a smaller zoo, so you probably won't spend an entire day here, but it's a nice place to stop by if you're in the area and want to see some wildlife while supporting their conservation efforts.

The privilege of visiting this and the education one receives while observing the animals is far different than the experience at a zoo or amusement park. The people that run this place are NOT entertainers. They have a passion and a love for the animals they care for and it is evident in their enthusiasm and dedication. This is a wild life refuge and a great educational experience for anyone who takes the time to visit. The staff have a lot to share. Your admission cost goes toward the care and feeding of these wonderful creatures which would otherwise have perished in the wild. There are Reptiles, Coyotes, Bears, Bobcats, Raccoons, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, and a magnificent Golden Eagle in their care. These magnificent animals can be observed up close where they can be appreciated. Keep in mind that the price of admission is not for profit but instead goes towards operational costs of care and feeding of these amazing creatures. Make reservations because space is limited and the staff is dedicated to provide visitors with the best and most informative experience which will increase every visitors appreciation for the creatures that live around us. They cannot take unplanned walk-in visitors. Special Note: To locate this place, pay careful attention to the directions on their website. Your GPS will NOT accurately guide you to this location. They have an alternate location that the GPS will find. Then follow the signs to the entrance to the refuge compound.

They have a good variety of exotic animals, and one of the best parts was being able to get pretty close to them and even feed some of them with the help of the staff. The workers were very friendly and made the experience enjoyable, especially for a family. The prices were also very affordable. The sanctuary itself is fairly small compared to a traditional zoo, but I actually liked how close you could get to the animals. Parking was spacious, although just be aware that you have to drive down a pretty long dirt road to get there. I do always feel a little bad seeing animals outside of their natural habitats, but overall we really enjoyed our visit and thought it was well worth it. If you have a family and want to take the kids somewhere to see some exotic animals up close, or you're simply an animal lover looking for something different to do, I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Sadly, this was not a positive experience for my family…read more We participated in the one-hour trail ride and, upon returning to the stables, our guide specifically warned riders about the new horses located on the right side of the dismount area. My 12-year-old daughter is an experienced rider and followed the staff's instructions exactly. She waited until she was prompted to enter the designated dismount area, as directed by the staff. Unfortunately, following those instructions placed her directly adjacent to the horses that had been identified as a concern. As she entered the dismount area, one of the horses reached through the fence and bit her on the right thigh. The bite was severe enough that an attendant had to intervene to get the horse to release her. I immediately took my daughter to the restroom to assess the injury and document it with photographs. The bite occurred through her long pants. While I understand that horses are animals and that unpredictable situations can occur, I was disappointed by both the circumstances that led to the incident and the way it was handled afterward. My daughter followed the instructions she was given, yet the responsibility for the incident was ultimately placed on her. Given the prior warning about the horses, it is difficult to understand why riders were still being directed into such close proximity to them. Equally concerning was the lack of follow-up from management. The owner did not speak with us at the time of the incident, did not proactively reach out afterward, and only returned our call after multiple attempts and a more urgent message. Rather than expressing concern or discussing a reasonable resolution, the conversation was argumentative and dismissive. Accidents can happen, and a sincere apology along with an effort to address the situation would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Between the safety concerns and the poor customer service that followed, I cannot recommend this business to others.
