I need more stars to rate Wilderness Archery. I purchased bows for my grandsons for Christmas. We returned for the bows to be set up and adjusted for them. The time spent by the staff and owner getting it just right for these two kids was over the top. The kindness, instruction, knowledge, and patience bestowed upon the boys in the process was something I have not witnessed in years. And get this: After setting up the bow for the younger one they determined something was not quite right. They performed a little test in the shop and told me my right-handed grandson is left eye dominate, he needs a left-handed bow. They switched out the bow. Went through the entire setup again and bingo the kid is comfortable and shooting. (No Charge). In the TWO hours they spent with my kids I watched numerous customers come in and get the same treatment. This place doesn't just sell archery equipment...they sell the passion and love of archery. Throw in price and selection and it does not get any better. I would love to see this small business go public so I could buy the stock! read more

Bought my first bow here. Shot brands by PSE, Bowtech, Hoyt, and Mathews. After shooting in their range, I narrowed it down to the Hoyt and two Mathews bows. I ended up with the Mathews Halon. Smooth draw and great accuracy. The staff tuned it in and hepled me pick out all the necessary accesories. Left with a complete turn key package. They asked me to shoot it for a month, and then come back for some free fine tuning. This is THE PLACE to buy all of your bow equipment. read more

I took my daughter to Wilderness Archery yesterday for an archery lesson. She had a fantastic time. The instructors Rick and Lisa were very attentive and addressed any questions we had, and helped her with pointers after watching her shoot. The class was a mix of different skill levels, ages, and equipment but there was none of the attitude I've experienced when shooting at other locations. They not only understand the equipment they're selling, but how to assess the shooter so they use the right gear. We've rescheduled another lesson and will more than likely be purchasing our equipment from there. You guys rock. read more

Avoid buying your archery gear online or at some general sporting goods store. I didn't know better until I was told this by an experienced archer. And I can say the advice was dead on. We found Wilderness Archery. The staff are amazing. Mike, guessing he is the owner, was super patient and enthusiastic. He put my entire family, the young and the old at ease with handling a bow and arrow. He didn't steer us beginners to anything expensive or more than what we needed. Great guy and shop. I came here on a Friday morning at opening and was surprised to see a few people waiting outside already. Always a good sign! I was greeted by Tex as I walked in, and he asked if he could help with anything. As a beginner looking into recurve archery, he was clearly exactly the person you wanted to be talking to. He listened actively as I answered his questions about what I was looking for, and there was NEVER any pressure to buy anything. When a nice PSE recurve caught my eye, he took it down, installed a nocking point on the string, and took me around the corner to shoot it, just like that. He gave me some outstanding insights, answered roughly a million questions, and showed me how to shoot with proper form, while being tremendously patient and effective as an instructor. I'd like to point out that Tex didn't know me from Adam, and I hadn't even spent a dime there yet. After shooting and friendly conversation, I looked down and saw that I'd been waited on like I was the only person in the world for well over an hour, in a store with several other customers walking around that obviously knew what they wanted already, and he still spent the time on a wide eyed beginner that just wanted answers. The instruction I received for just walking in the door would cost you fifty or sixty bucks from any other place, and I ended up buying a couple of accessories that any archer would need anyways just on principle! Great selection, prices were shockingly fair, and the best customer experience I've ever had. Drove up from LA to visit my brother in Rocklin and decided this was the place to set up my recurve. Lisa was extremely helpful in helping me set up my bow, picking the right arrows, arm guard finger tab. I'm new to the sport and Lisa was helpful in walking me thru it all. Had two great days of trying out my gear at the Yolo Bowmen in Davis. $5 all day shooting, 30 different targets. Everything performed great, will definitely will come back next time I'm in the area. Hopefully to pick up a shorter bow and some more arrows. read more

I can't express enough how great this place is. I really knew nothing about archery, but wanted to give it a try and get a bow. I was nervous about even going to a bow shop but everyone was super helpful, knowledgeable and nice. I have been shooting my compound bow for 2 years when a coworker suggest I visit Wilderness Archery for a lesson to improve my shooting. Going into the class I knew I can be better at archery, but didn't know which area I need improvement in. Signing up for the beginner compound bow class was very easy. Within 4 minutes of the class the instructor got me shooting consistent fist sized groups with minor adjustments of my grip and pull through of the release. I went here for my birthday to try something new. Shooting archery is more difficult than it looks in the movies, but our instructor was very realistic and detailed on how to do it correct and safely. You may not get it right the first couple of tries, but if you keep practicing the techniques, you may surprise yourself. Went here from research and asking around. I have been interested in getting into archery for a hobby and for hunting, so I decided to just go in. Everyone that work there was super friendly and helpful. Matt was the employee we worked with. He was so kind and helpful like you would expect and want. He asked what brought me in, so I told him and he asked what my price range/budget was. He started to show me compound bows in that range and set them all up for my draw length and weight to try at their lane. He gave me advice and a quick tutorial and never once tried to up sell. Wilderness Archery rocks. Why anyone would buy a bow from a big box store like BassPro is beyond me. I guess the same kind of guy that buys golf clubs from Walmart? Wilderness has the best brands like Mathews, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech, Prime etc.! More importantly, they have the parts and the staff to correctly tune your bow. I have seen the staff giving lessons, and in my opinion, the instructors are very good. This place is fantastic, not only selection, but knowledge and the incredible customer service. I've been shooting a bow and hunting for over 30 years and know a lot, but don't hold a candle to Mike. I just took a couple bows in that I'm taking to hunt the South Pacific with me. The one was shooting excellent but I wanted to put new strings on it and the other new one was shooting "ok". They replaced the strings, timed and then tuned the bow with me. Then Mike had me shoot the new one and made a couple suggestions. He made the changes and my groups tightened up dramatically! Talk about a mental confidence booster! I know there are places that sell bows and "work on them", but many of today's bows are like sports cars and need specialty service, WIlderness Archery is the place. After all, you wouldn't let some minimum wage mechanic work on your Porsche, why would you do any different with your bow? read more

I went in to day looking to get a started bow. I was immediately greeted and helped before I was 10 steps in the door. I was planning on a certain bow. I had researched the bow quite a bit over the last few weeks. And I understood the drawbacks, and had a couple alternate chooses already picked out. I explained to Brett what I was looking for and the bow I was interested in. He was about to tell me something when I found the bow on the rack behind him. I immediately noticed it was a bit small for me. Before he could try to let me down about my first choice I said its to small huh? Yes I told him the who what and why of what I was looking for and he offered some good information. The bow he recommended first was my second choice. It was nice not to have to play the game and actually get an honest choice. Once we got the bow selection all taken care of he went about getting everything measured and set up very efficiently and with care. Once I started to see what was involved in all the bow set up I was a bit worried. I hadn't mentioned anything to him, but I needed to be back home for an appointment that came up and really only had so much time to spend in the shop. Not a problem it turned out. He was very quick and even having to coach me thru probably some simple things got things all adjusted and fixed up in plenty of time. I didn't even have to mention to him I was pressed for time. I appreciate the time and customer service Brett showed today. I never felt rushed or made to feel ignorant. He just patiently got things done. I was never pressured into purchasing certain things. He worked well in my budget, and actually came in way less than I had budgeted. Bow package, extra arrows, release,and a good broad head / field target (that wasn't the most expensive one there ) and excellent customer service by Brett and all in the shop and out the door with enough time to drive home and pick up some lunch. I will absolutely have no problem making the 1hr drive to pick up more gear and or service on my new hobby. Good store and Stand up customer service people. I bought my recurve bow from Wilderness and decided to bring some friends to try out the indoor shooting range. It was a Saturday afternoon so it was quite busy but we were able to get our rentals quickly and start shooting. Their staff was very helpful in providing tips to us amateurs. The cost was not bad. $20 dollars for an hour plus rental and $10 if you had your own gear. Overall experience at the range was great. The indoor range can hold up to 10 people at a time but I think 8 is like comfortable amount. Definitely recommmend the indoor shooting range for a small group. I also bought a finger tab, it was around $11. It is a must have item if you have a recurve bow. Its always a great experience coming here. read more

While the archery experience was very good, the staff (in general) wasn't very friendly. My husband and I are disabled and we thought it would be fun. It was!! We just felt the staff was a little put out because they had to help us set up and correct our stances at first. The young man who got us checked in, was very nice and friendly. Loved our couples lesson at wilderness. I have wanted to try this since I failed it in PE a million years ago. Back then I thought I was Robin Hood and now I guess everyone wants to be like The hunger games. I see the lessons come up in living social and think....well why not? I dragged my husband along and he had fun too. The instructors were top notch. They were so helpful in identifying mistakes and helping us correct them. It was light years above my high school experience. I hit the bullseye a couple of times after the tips from my instructor.
