I ordered takeout from this restaurant and it was a good experience! I tried the sushi combo which came with a California roll, some sashimi, and a salad. The salad was not very good. The broccoli was bitter and tough and overall it just let me down. That being said, everything else was GREAT! The sushi was fresh and tasty. I appreciated the healthy serving of ginger, too. I would put 0 stars if I could.. I just left here & I had to threaten the manager to run my card for the items I ate & drank so I can leave. The Asian "sizzling" steak was over cooked, cold, & no flavor... I asked for medium rare, & it was medium... I asked if they can re make since it's cut, cold & not sizzling.. she came back with same steak now over cooked & just warmed up in microwave. It's been years since I've visited "Wild Wok" and I'm happy that I stopped in again. My friends and I was looking for a place to grab a late night bite, most places were closed except for "Wild Wok". The restaurant is exactly like how I remembered it with plenty of seating for everyone. We received the best customer service from our server. She was super attentive and helpful. I decided to go with the bento box. The food was super hot and fresh. My favorite item had to be the sushi rolls. That was quite delicious and exactly like I imagined it. The portions were huge so you may want to split if you're not that hungry. Overall, I look forward to visit "Wild Wok" again in the near future. We have gone to this Wild Wok (there is another on Catawba Valley Blvd.) for years. We find the food and service to be uniformly excellent, though we don't eat sushi so can't rate that. Lunch prices are quite reasonable and portion sizes appropriate. Dinner prices are high but unless you're really big eater, you can get two meals out of one dish; the portions are large. We got the flower chicken and it was like it was just sitting in a pot of water all day. The chicken was so soft it just dissolved in your mouth and the whole meal was no flavor and we even got sweet and sour to help. New to the area, scouting out the sushi joints and General Tso's Chicken... this week was Wild Wok time! Ordered General Tso's and Bourbon chicken, a few apps, and several rolls for takeout. The restaurant itself seems nice and clean, friendly staff, typical prices... Quality was good, not quite great but a solid "good". Of course every place is going to have their own take on each dish and roll so while I wouldn't say this is our favorite spot in the Hickory area, that's more a matter of personal preference. They'll get another try, next time some other dishes and rolls, and it may remain on our list as a backup option. Over all, you should give them a try! I don't think you will be disappointed. Whether the General Tso's (or any other dish) is exactly how you like it of course will be for you to decide. read more

This place probably has the best sushi in town. I first came here after multiple people recommended it to me. They have a great selection sakis and Asian beer. The cocktail list is a little lacking, having only vodka based drinks. If you sit at the sushi bar the give you a complimentary crab and cucumber salad with some type of sweet dressing. It is light and delicious. We then started out with the pork gyozas (fried dumplings) and they were great. Moving on to the star of the show, the lobster roll. It is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, and it's so fresh it might just pinch you. I usually end up getting two because it's just that good. Service is always extremely fast and friendly. My wife and I have sat, ate, and left in less than 30 minutes. The only thing I don't recommend is the bourbon chicken. For me, it was more onion than chicken. If you are new to Saki try the Lychee Saki. It isn't too strong or sweet, and you still get to pour yourself little shots and who doesn't love that. The food is always so dang good and the sushi is fresh! I will say that if there is an issue, they are reluctant to fix it. I typically order the California roll or the Wild Wok roll if I'm getting sushi, but yesterday I tried a new one; the winter roll. The fried onion in it was over fried to the point that it was stringy and leathery. I pointed it out to our waitress and she requested to touch our food to pull the onion out. We told her it was okay and she said that there wasn't anything wrong with it. (There was a bit of a language barrier) My fiancé requested a different roll which was significantly cheaper. They didn't charge us for the new roll, but did charge us for the one we didn't eat. This isn't something that will keep us from returning, but I just wanted to mention it. read more

My friend and I ordered a General Tsos chicken lunch special and a Chicken Pad Thai lunch special. 1. The chicken was awful--the deep fried General Tsos chicken just tasted weird. It wasn't fresh and you could definitely tell it wasn't. The crisp breading (that it should have) was not there. It was soggy and drenched with sauce. The chicken in the pad thai was the only part I enjoyed in my dish and I didn't even like it all that much. 2. Fried rice in the General Tsos-- no, just NO. Why is the fried rice ZESTY? What kind of fried rice is zesty? The zesty rice was nasty, but it was the only part my friend liked. 3. Pad thai-- I honestly don't remember the last time that I ordered something and didn't like it. Well, this dish was definitely a regret. The noodles were chewy? I couldn't really eat them well, so I kind of just picked at it. The chicken was OK. Slight hint of eggs in the dish. 4. Steamed dumplings-- YES. These were delish. 5. Sushi-- YES. My crunchy roll was great. I usually order the M&M roll (the more expensive version of the crunchy roll, IMO), but after realizing I had already spent $11 on a lunch I didn't really like, I went on a budget. Lol. From 3pm - 6(?)pm, there is 50% off sushi if you dine in, which was great because that meant the crunchy roll was only $3.48 instead of $6.95. The two stars are for the sushi and steamed dumplings. I do not think this place was going for any sort of authenticity, but I have experience far better Americanized Chinese food. This place reminds me of a glorified Panda Express. Their portions are great and the price seems fair for the nice appearance of the restaurant itself. The food on the other hand is not acceptable. I cleaned my dish because food is food but that's only because I am not on the "Chopped" judge panel because those people are ridiculous. I ordered the "House Lo Mein" and I was presented with dry rubbery brown noodles. They put some sort of bland tasting sauce on it. I would have rather eaten plain well cooked noodles. Possibly the worst Asian food me and my wife have ever had. We ordered take out, with myself having the shrimp fried rice and my wife had the sesame chicken and fried rice with 2 egg rolls and a cup of shrimp sauce. We didn't even get the shrimp sauce, they charged us for it but forgot to place it in the bag (probably my fault for not double checking), but that's not too big of a deal compared to how bad the food was. The egg rolls tasted old and were rubbery and really chewy. The shrimp in the fried rice was over cooked and not good and the rice tasted as if it was cooked in week old oil, it was just not good at all. My wife had the sesame chicken and the sauce was so thin and like pure liquid with little to no sesames on the chicken and just had a weird alcoholic type flavor to it that's a bit odd to describe. Overall, just flat out not good. Complete waste over over $30, for food that we could not even finish eating as we straight up just had bowls of cereal for dinner instead just to get that taste out of our mouths! read more

Probably the last time our family gets food from Wild Wok. Over the last two years we'd eaten in the restaurant and have taken out food. The service was normally good and the food was okay. Tonight we ordered three entrees, two with steamed rice and one with lo main. We also ordered three wonton soups. I requested a five pm pick up, and was told it would be ready a little earlier - no problem. At about 5:10, an employee finally arrived in the reception area and I requested my order. About five minutes later, it arrived, all in one large paper bag. I carefully placed it in my car so that it wouldn't spill over. Arriving home, I learned that one of the soups had not been properly sealed, and there was a mess on my car seat. Also, the bottom of the paper bag had been soaked and failed when I picked it up. We also learned that our two orders of steamed rice didn't make it into the bag. The food quality was below average - I wished I'd ordered from one of the 'fast food' Chinese restaurants in the area, and definitely will next time! Recommend avoiding this restaurant. read more

We have tried eating at Wild Wok three times... We ordered broccoli with garlic sauce. Our only request was to please cook the broccoli well done or fork tender. On each occasion the broccoli has been served luke warm and as hard as you might expect in an uncooked vegetable tray.
