AT&T doesn't have phone signal coverage in this area, but every time we pass through Sperryville, I can't resist popping my head into this charming little shop brimming with cool things. Even when I only intend to accompany a friend for window shopping, I inevitably end up buying some pantry goods (I'm a sucker for nettle tea), local art, or gifts for the in-laws. Staff members are friendly and we've never had trouble finding parking, even with more businesses establishing themselves in the area over the years. read more

A great store for any of the herbal/oil tincture needs. Balms of all types, as well as lotions, and even bath accessories. There's also books, candles, and more. But best of all - most of everything is local and hand-made. Friendly service. Really cute, one-of-the-kind vibe in the middle of nowhere (although Vedtiz brewery is nearby in the same lot - an added bonus). If I'm driving by the area, I wouldn't hesitate to veer off to see this store again, over and over. read more

We noticed the existence of Wild Roots Apothecary during a recent visit to Pen Druid Brewing. As we were leaving - driving out past their building - we were intrigued by the fact that the sign included the word" "Bitters." Being the craft cocktail fans that we are - we knew we needed to come back and see just what the heck is going inside of Wild Roots Apothecary! I stopped in here late last Sunday afternoon. I did not have a lot of time - but I walked out with two bottles of a concentrated syrup called "Crud Buster." Strange name I know, but it tastes amazing! (the lady working the store let me taste it in a splash of sparkling water). Immediately, I had all sorts of ideas as to how I could use this in a variety of cocktails! I also bought a container of their Cajun spice mix. I am a total slut for Cajun spices - and am always on the lookout to try the next blend. I'll be back again when I have more time to devote to more slowly and thoughtfully perusing the bitters and other delectables for my bar stock! #WildRootsApothecary read more

Don't blink or you will drive by this amazing, little store and that would be a complete sad state of affairs for you. This shop has the most earthy energy and has a wide variety of teas, creams, soaps, gifts and bitters. We tried the chai spice powder and grey moonlight tea which were so good. we also got some soap and elderflower/rose cream which smelled yummy and felt great on my skin. I wish this place was closer to where I lived, but will make a trek to visit this hidden gem anytime! read more

Stepping into Wild Roots Apothecary truly feels like walking into a warm, magical little apothecary of yore, infused with the modern folk spirit of a First Aid Kit album (Google it). Owner and expert herbalist/forager Colleen and her friendly, knowledgeable staff welcome you to a special space where nature's healing bounty is crafted into unique remedies and bitters that make you feel good physically and emotionally. It's such a special place, and emblematic of all the reasons that convinced us to make the move from tourists to locals. You can sense Colleen's creativity, expertise, and care put into the shop's handmade products, whether it's a calming tea, rejuvenating body oil, or artisanal herbal gift perfect for any occasion. Many feature local, sustainable ingredients foraged by Colleen herself. It's a one-of-a-kind community gem with a special kind of magic to it. The kind of place where you exhale as you step in the front door and inhale the scents of lavender, spices, or whatever happens to be bubbling on the wood stone top that day. The kind of place where you can get some really dope stickers that everyone asks about, or fascinating books about self-sufficiency, or beautiful limited edition natural-themed artwork. Beyond the products, we've taken part in some of the wonderful workshops and classes to expand our herbal knowledge and learn more about plant-based wellness gleaned directly from Colleen's expertise. Between the shop's heart-centered mission, the staff's genuine desire to help customers, and the many beautiful and unique offerings, Wild Roots Apothecary has that magical something that keeps us coming back. read more

I visited Wild Roots yesterday during a trip to Virginia. I'm in love! This store is beautiful, stocked with so many amazing medicinal herbs (plus chocolates, non-toxic body care products, etc) and there was a lovely and helpful woman working there! I purchased the Rose Oxymel and already plan on purchasing more online. I also purchased a print, some soaps and lip balm for a friend, and two chocolate bars. I am absolutely over the moon about this woman-owned biz and can't wait to return soon! read more
