My understanding is that our party dined here after the restaurant being open for just 6 days. The interior was gorgeous and contemporary. We sat at the head table (with the chartreuse bench seating on one side) which is right across from the serving counter where the chef is working.
Although I don't consider myself a picky eater, I was not particularly attracted to any of the items on the appetizer menu (6-8 choices), nor any of the entrees (about 8 choices). I don't know if this is because I am an American who does not appreciate the nuances of British cuisine (?) or I lack a palate for finer food.
No matter, the chef did an outstanding job, even tolerating with a smile, a comment comparing the goat cheese atop the pistachio cake dessert to an American dairy product. The dishes were all artfully prepared.
I did enjoy my blackberry dessert with the meringue pieces. The chef was willing to substitute blueberries for the pear, which made it perfect.
The servers appeared to still be learning the ropes and were nervously talking and coordinating much of the time. They also took away some dishes from the table without asking, and before we were done with them. They also were not attentive to filling our water glasses. This is probably just a matter of them becoming more familiar with their job.
It also would have been helpful (for our party of 7) at the long head table, to have two boards of bread before the meal. We were offered two butters - one with a beef (jus?) added to it, and the other was plain.
We received a complimentary plate of macarons at the end of the meal, which was nice for those who did not order dessert. read more
