This was an enjoyable establishment. Didn't start off well as the waitress did not know what mezcal…read morewas and they were out of the mezcal cocktail. I wasn't a fan of the cocktail flight because it was a bit foamy, but I had better luck with the food. Had a steak special that was reasonably priced and cooked well with a side of broccolini. Enjoyed a salad to start off my meal that was light and fresh. I enjoyed the decor of the establishment with a fun bar area and you could watch the food being prepared. We started off with one waitress and finished our dining experience with a different waitress who was in training but she was very sweet. Overall enjoyable dining experience.

Wonderful meal with wonderful service! Everything we had was really good to outstanding. I can't…read morerecommend the King Prawns enough. When it arrived I thought 'hmm shrimp is not as big as I'd have thought' but then I tasted it and the sauce, shrimp, bread and veggies together were one of the best shrimp dishes I've ever had. I even saved the left over sauce (had it put in a ramekin) and put it on my steak. It was that good. My wife got the pork chops special and it was good too but the beans that were served with it were spectacular. Beans??? I didn't know they could be spectacular. Truffle chips (fries) were quality too. The home made black sheep sticky toffee pudding was also a must try. Lastly, Gosia, our waitress, was knowledgeable and took great care of us. When we are in York, we will be back.

The ambiance is fancy, and the service was attentive and good. It's more of the kind of place you come and dress fancy with your girlfriends or a relative you want to impress for afternoon tea.

Disappointing and uncomfortable experience, especially given the price point…read more From the moment I sat down, the service was unfriendly and inattentive (with exception to the lovely American hostess!). My server did not introduce himself, had no name tag, and never once smiled or offered basic pleasantries. More concerning, he clearly struggled to understand a very simple drink order. I asked for an Old Fashioned with Maker's Mark three or four times. At the end of the order, he asked what whiskey I wanted and made me physically point to it on the menu. This was awkward and unnecessary. From other reviews I've read, it seems this fellow has dished out similar attitude with other guests (check Google, TripAdvisor). When I asked whether the drink would be served with a single large cube, which is traditional, he replied "regular ice" without explanation. Fine. I then watched the bartender prepare the drink, after which it sat at the bar for roughly five minutes while my server ran around folding tablecloths and setting tables. The restaurant was not understaffed. Service continued to deteriorate from there. When he returned to take my food order, again there were no pleasantries and no attempt at hospitality. After my main course was dropped off, he stopped serving me entirely. I waited about 15 minutes for the check before finally placing my card on the table myself. At that point, a manager was the only person who checked on me and ultimately processed the payment. My server seemed to actively avoid guest interaction, instead focusing on tasks like folding linens, arranging cutlery, and resetting tables. All of this for a bill of around $60 USD, with a mandatory 20 percent service charge included. That charge felt especially frustrating given the complete lack of service. For a restaurant that markets itself as polished and upscale, this was a surprisingly poor experience. Clear communication, basic friendliness, and attentiveness should be non-negotiable at this level. And, yes, the nameless phantom should stick to folding table cloths instead of interacting with guests.
