Having had many fine steaks here, i was dissapointed to see no reviews for the loveable Ryther Arms so here goes...
You have to ring and book a table, and can wait a week or more if you want a busy time ( fri, sat eve). We go at the begining of the week, normally a monday evening, so its not too busy. This place seems to do fantastic business based on word of mouth alone - but does have a pretty good website than gives you more detail!
Its a bit of a drive for us, but well worth it! When you enter the pub, it is very oldy worldy. A traditional small bar area, wooden beamed low cellings and brass!
When your ready to go through to eat, you can just make your way through the doorway, where you will be greeted and seated. There are two secions to the main eating area. We normally sit it the first part.Again, traditional, low cellings, wooden beams, pictures, brass and a real wooden fire. ( think the buliding dates back to the 1500s, so appealing )
All round excellent choices on the menu - more suited to adults than children though! Fresh baked bread and butter is put on your table to start with. The steak is what you go for, and steak is what you get!!! Not cheap, but you can have anything from an 8oz tidler, to a Ryther monster, which i think is about 45oz, they have rump, sirlion, fillet, t-bone, the lot!! (*Dont be affraid to ask for a doggy bag if you want any leftover meat for your dogs - they have their own bags for this very purpose!)You get your sides included, roasties, new potatos, saute potatos with leek, mushrooms. You get a bit of salad sides with you steak already on the plate when it is served. There are other sides avalible, but you do pay extra for those. There are also specials on the menu board as well as other dishes on the main menu - not just steak, lol!!
We never wait long for our food, it is always piping hot, the steak is always served just how you like it, so if you want rare, you get rare ( be specific on how you like your meat cooked - they get it right). You can get ketchup and other sauces, condiments etc.
Down to earth, friendly staff dont bother you every 5 minuites, they let you get on with your meal, but you can call them easily if you need them.
The atmosphere is great, warm and inviting with music in the background ( theres often some good eighties/nineties stuff played when we go)
There is a range of desserts ( there could be more choice though) The jam rolly polly is lovely! Teas, coffeess, cappachino and irish coffees. The toliets are always clean and stocked when i have been!
Dont go expecting a posh, designer place - its a traditional pub, looks like a traditional pub, and serves the best steak i have ever had in my life so far!
( if after you have been, and know of better steak, please let me know!)
There seems to be a good choice of booze and wine - i never leave dissapointed or sober, lol!
It isnt a pretentious place, it is somewhere where you slip back in time slightly, enjoy good old fashioned yorkshire hospitality, and fantastic steak!
All in all an enjoyable eating experience! My fave place so far!
