I'm only as perturbed as I am under the illusion that finding a place that was once owned by Johnny Depp means I'm now married to him. Okay, so this particular Viper Rooms wasn't owned by Johnny Depp but it shares the same name. That is close enough for me. Now will it live up to expectations? Well actually yes it does. It's housed in a Grade II listed building and inside they've spared little expense. We're talking four bars surrounded by multiple rooms and a mad mix up of music as well. You'll get anything from disco to Hip Hop. It is beautiful, it really is. A special mention goes out the centre piece chandelier and quite awesome (not to mention comfortable) leather sofas throughout. To get you in the mood and your disco shoes raring the drinks menu will blow you away. It beats some clubs I've been to with a huge selection of cocktails, wines, fizz and beer. This is grade A stuff. It may be a little mainstream for some people's tastes but just go with the flow and enjoy the venue if nothing else.

As with all the taps, they have a fantastic mix of UK breweries and American craft, Belgian and European brews - plus a bottle menu with beers ranging from a few quid to some very special ones (hello Hopping Frog at £18 and unfortunately not in my price range!) I had an amazing Tiny Rebel/Dark Star collaboration with my wife enjoying a Belgian fruit beer - we were both very very happy with our choices! The actual venue is pretty cool and just the sort of place you want to hangout in, with a clientele of all ages into good quality hoppy stuff! Special mention has to go to the amazing pork pies on sale - £2.50 a pop and from the excellent Elite meats. Mine was amazing and made even better by having 'Sierra Nevada Mustard' served with it - mega yum! Now this is grand to the extreme. This mother is one stylish player with decadent furnishings and a sophisticated feel. What's more you get tables that light up, built in ice buckets and a real baby grand piano. To make me even giddier, they do fizz by the glass. Is this place for real? You don't even have to move because a delightful hostess will see to your every need (within reason). The drinks list is awesome too. If money is no object then go for a deluxe Champagne. Or try one of the zillion or so cocktails that will blow you away. If you want aged rums, no problem. Plus, you'll find some of the finest cognacs. James Bond wouldn't look out of place here. The food isn't bad either but I'm singing this little babies praises for some serious drinking action. Make sure the credit card isn't maxed out though; you'll need every penny you can muster. Extreme to every level but marvellous if costly.

Like if you met a really nice person and chatted away for hours, thinking, this person is just really, really cool then they casually mention in a coy and embarrassed fashion that they wrote the book you're holding in your hand. The analogy is, this place is relaxed, welcoming and has a fantastic 8 page drinks menu then you find out their food is wonderful too The beers are the main event. Bottled continental lager, black sheep, timothy taylors, 3 guest beers on tap, fruit beer and much, much more. They even have 2 pint carryout available if you want more for the way home! (NB: don't drink and drive kids, it's not big and it's not clever, besides, you might spill it) They have an upstairs dining room that I haven't tried out, yet. They do food in the bar downstairs 12-2:30pm and 6-7pm, quite narrow time periods, just serving for an hour in the evenings. The bar food includes sandwiches (e.g. Applewood cheddar and chutney ~£4.50), pate, soup, fish pie (a personal recommendation, ~£8.50), sausage and mash (~£6.50). All excellent. I had the finan haddie soup (smoked haddock, £4.75) and homemade soda bread at the weekend and it was absolutely divine. Dogs welcome in the bar when they're not serving food. Fabulous atmosphere pre-christmas. Cosy, steamed up windows and packed out. There's live music every night of the week and during the day, a relaxed chilled out atmosphere to enjoy some grub and a cuppa or even sample some of the fine lagers on offer via both tap and bottle. Some of the very best local bands feature on the latest listings, while the likes of Jools Holland and Van Morrison have graced the place in its long history in music. Who else do you need to give the place a seal of approval? Me, you say? Well, it's got it.
