One of those occasions when dinner plans A & B didn't work out, but C ended up being much better than expected.
I'd not eaten at Pieminister before (despite there also being one in Manchester) so it was fortuitous that my two Leeds-based colleagues hadn't been either; we were able to be seated immediately which our hunger-pangs needed to hear.
They may be a (small) chain but they sell quality pies and craft ale and when I saw mash and gravy options on the menu I was beaming from ear to ear. For £5 each there are a dozen or so beef, chicken, venison and vegetarian options and your choice of gravy/sauce is included. Sides, such as mash, mushy peas or fries are an extra £2.20 or you can have larger portions of the sides for £3.20.
Their pies are really stuffed full with filling and the pastry is tasty, so with the creamy mash and rich gravy it made for a hearty meal, just perfect for this time of year. The service was warm and friendly throughout.
Washed down with a bottle of locally-brewed ale and a dessert of, what else but, lemon meringue pie (yes, I double-pied), we all rolled out of there fully satisfied. read more
