Totally blew me away. I moved back to the area almost three years ago, but had not come to WPW. Then recently, I found out that my 50th class reunion was going to be held there. Hearing that news, I knew it was time to come and check it out. When I arrived mid-afternoon on a Sunday, I was shocked how large the venue was and how full the parking lot was. I quickly realized, Wild Pickens Winery is a hot spot and the place to be seen on weekends. They have a fairly extensive wine menu, it was larger then what I was expecting. I enjoyed two glasses of Cabernet and was impressed with its robust flavor. When my server told me, all glasses of wine were $7, my frugal personality smiled. To my surprise they had an extensive menu. I was expecting a very simple menu of only a few items, but they had it all. Their menu had entrees, burgers and wood fired pizzas. I had eaten brunch earlier so I wasn't that hungry, but wanted to try something. I ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms and they hit the spot. They were stuffed with spinach, cream cheese and parmesan. The order came with three good sized mushrooms, so it would be perfect for one or sharing. They had a band playing in the main room inside and the music was super loud. Friends that I ran into there, told me in good weather the band is outside and makes for a more enjoyable listening experience. The loud music is why they only got a 4 Star rating. The service was small town, down home country friendly. WPW is only open Thursday thru Sunday and I'll definitely be back. I gotta come back and try one of their wood fired pizzas. read more

Visited here after a day of apple picking with my friends. Now, a group of black people visiting this Southern Illinois, off the beaten path winery was a bit intimidating, but when I say we were welcomed warmly, we were definitely made to feel welcome! We were immediately greeted by the owner, Todd, who was behind the bar servicing customers. He took the time to thank all of us for coming in and shook each of our hands. Todd, separated us from the dry wine drinkers to the sweet wine drinkers, sharing with us his top recommendations for each category. Unanimously! We all enjoyed the blueberry wine the most. We all literally bought a bottle! LOL. Todd had to leave us for other duties, but left us in the care of his staff. These ladies were great and fun. After our wine tasting, we sat to order food. We ordered the meat lovers and the loaded baked potato pizza and a few side salads to share. Never thought of a baked potato as a pizza, but this was sooo good!! The food in general was delicious, fresh, and made to order. The winery itself was super cute. The outside seating area was packed with folks, rocking out to some live music. The inside seating area was surprisingly very large. A large dining space with a separate event space and video gaming area. Really cute place in the middle of down state Illinois corn fields. Prompt service, nice menu,tasty food and wines. I actually preferred the white sangria because the fruit wines were too sweet for my pallet. Really good band playing classic rock. Outdoor and indoor seating. Band and dance floor outside. Been going to this place for a couple of years now. They spent the Covid close down adding on a dining room and a place inside for the band to play on rainy days. We stopped in last Sunday afternoon for pizza & drinks. They welcome well behaved dogs outside on the patio, so we brought our new Aussie puppy to acclimate him to food being served & loud noises. It had rained so the band was inside & we sat on their delightful wooden deck amongst the trees. Service is tableside out there and we were quickly waited on. I got a couple of their wine a rita peach Bellini's plus a bananarama with caramel. They were delicious & didn't take long to get. The all meat pizza my hubby ordered was huge & could've been shared by 4. We took most home since we started with the buttery garlic bread. I ordered a cheeseburger & fries, which I shared with our puppy. Btw, the puppy really enjoyed waiting for us in the natural surroundings with the birds singing. read more

This was our second time visiting for a meal. The grounds are beautiful. The outdoor patio is spacious. The service was inefficient and disorganized. Our first visit was for a Saturday lunch with another couple about 6 weeks ago and it was not busy at all. The food took nearly an hour to receive and out of our table of 4, one order was incorrect and two came at vastly different times. The food was decent, not great. Our drinks weren't refilled unless asked and that took awhile too. Second visit just last night: Our table of 10 sat outside. It was busy because of the scheduled band. Our drink orders took 30 minutes to arrive and at very different times. The server didn't know the beer menu and said certain beer wasn't available, however we later saw it inside at the bar. Food orders were taken and arrived after an hour and a half of waiting. 4 of the 8 orders were incorrect. All of our orders were delivered at different times. 4 members of our table were boxing up their leftovers just as my husband and I were receiving our food, and we were the first at our table to place our orders. Our hamburgers were dry. Both my husband's and my orders were wrong and missing items, but they were eaten anyway because we didn't want to take a chance on waiting even longer. Another table member ordered a simple salad, which was delivered last after a long wait, and was missing one of the main ingredients - chicken. Drink orders throughout the night were consistently slow and incorrect. As I was observing not only our server but other servers, no one appeared to be working efficiently. I overheard most servers ask which table numbers were which and deliver food to wrong tables. My husband and I were disappointed in the service and quality of food, and while we recognize that it was busy, there was no coordination or efficiency in service. The servers appeared untrained at best. We assumed that when a table placed a food order, each plate would be delivered at the same time, like most restaurants. Our mistake. We also observed the owner/manager sitting at the bar and appearing to be unaware of the service confusion. However, the band was great (which we were there to see) and we had a good time with friends and others we ran into. As stated earlier, the grounds and atmosphere are ideal for the area. We really wanted to enjoy our meal, and we're not picky, but will we dine there again? No. read more

This could be an excellent place if they can get more organized. The venue itself is beautiful and very nice place. The staff needs more organization. Yes, they all were working very hard and could use more help. The food came out very quickly. The drinks were very slow. Management/owners need to help with organization. We notice the servers were not assigned a specific area. They took turns on guests as they arrive, no matter where they sat weather it be inside or outside which is crazy! We ate outside and when the band started playing, they were too loud so we moved inside to sit at the bar. The bartender said we needed to use the same server because she worked both inside and out which is also crazy. We ordered drinks with the server who puts the order in the system. Bartender then makes them and puts them in a location where servers pick up the drinks. They sat there for 15-20 minutes before the server had time to go get them when the bartender could have handed them to us. The bar itself is very disorganized. Bartenders kept walking from one side to the other to get drinks for an order. Definitely needs help with the layout. read more

This place should be a great venue except for 2 things. 1)NO social distancing or mask wearing, even by staff and 2)the worst drink dispersal I've ever experienced anywhere. Today was our 2nd trip. The first time we went about 2 weeks ago, it took about 30 minutes to get a beer and nearly 2 hours for food. Figuring this was an anomaly as it had just opened from the Covid-19 closure, we expected things to be much better today. We did not order food this time but the drink wait was 40-45 minutes with no social distancing and us being the only people in the place wearing a mask. Staff is working hard but very inefficiently. How about a separate line for the frozen drinks, beer, wine, and food. The frozen drinks really slow the line. There is lots of shade and you can spread out on the west side. Too bad this place is not better organized and takes the pandemic seriously because it could become our go to place as it is close to home read more

Worst place I've eaten at in a very long time. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before getting a tiny and I mean tiny salad. Then 2 people got the poppy seed but 3rd person -they were out of it. There were 6 of us for mother's day. We got there around 12:40. But before you say, "that's why" ... Keep reading. There were 4 things on the menu. FOUR! Chicken breast or shrimp with linguine noodles in a creamy sauce, salad and bread, or prime rib with potato, a salad and bread. Then lobster bisque soup, salad and bread. Mother's day, and I couldn't even get a salad but I could get prime rib!! . We never could get napkins or silverware (after 4 asks!) so after squeezing my lemon, I wiped my hands on my pants. After that length of time, I preceded to go to the bar to tell someone it had been 1.25 hours and hadn't even gotten our salads and we had seen people come in WAY AFTER us, eat and leave. Some with 6 people as well. They said they would talk to our waitress. Ha! Not sure they did. Another 1/2 hour and our waitress keeps asking us if we're doing ok here... Really?!! So we let her know just how long it has been since ordering. Nothing but excuses. They've been really busy today. But the place had all but cleared out!!! When the door swung open we could see plates of food sitting on this folding table. Now some are going to say short staffed. Nope ... Not today. And even if they had been, the place was almost empty. We then got bread. 3 of theeee smallest pieces of bread. There are 6 of us!! Brought us 2 more pieces and I said, "but there are 6 of us"! and they were so hard. We finally got salads a few minutes later but still no silverware. So there we sat. I never saw anyone else lack silverware after 15 minutes of seated!! Another gal came over, not manager. (He was too busy sitting at a table talking. The same table he'd sat at for 45 minutes. There's no excuse for that.) And she asked how things were. We proceeded to tell her. Excuse after excuse. She said they'd been really busy. Ok, no one's here now. But I told her people came and went since ordering ours. And she said, there are a lot of things to fix in the kitchen. Husband and I said there are 4 items! (they should have all the noodles and sauce done, the soup, and just chicken and prime rib to cook which were flat meat. No thickness at all). She THEN said to my husband, would you like a shot, 'no', or a fireball maybe to help you relax? 'no'. And if my husband hadn't said sternly, no, and to keep talking about it isn't helping. I was going to tell her that he doesn't need to relax because he has a right to be upset! . That about did it for me. We wait about 10 minutes longer for food, they are out of baked potato for the prime rib dinner and it was cooked wrong and everyones food was cold including our 91 yr old mother's and her 95 yr old companions. We got several 'we're sorry's but never anything to offer us. Manager FINALLY noticed us still there and said how is everything? Sorry about the wait and he was off. There are too many things here to say it's bc it was mothers day. Can't even say short staffed in kitchen, as food sat on table. And besides cold, everyone's food wasn't very good. If she forgot to put order in, tell us. We arrived at 12:40, ordered at 12:55, left at 3:15. Folks, you can't make this stuff up!! I won't be back. read more

Just hosted a wedding shower here. Todd McGill, the owner, and his staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The back gazebo area was private, yet close to the bar and food station. A nice selection of drinks and food choices--everyone was very pleased with their menu option. There happened to be live music and a craft fair at the winery on this day and it added to the ambiance.
