They are a great small town, county shelter that takes good care of homeless dogs and cats. Recently they got some publicity for one of their residents who had been living in the shelter for 11 years. Wiggles had a tumor that was unoperateable, but 5 A's kept her and loved her. Finally after appearing on a local news channel, she found her forever home for her senior years. Being new to the Alton community, I stopped by to see what I could do or donate to help them with their cause and was impressed with the cleanliness of the shelter. I was also impressed with the friendliness and love I saw the staff and volunteers showing the resident animals. Including trying to work with rescues and doing discount adoptions. Even working with national Fondations to offer low and sometimes no cost adoptions. They are here for the community and are trying to places animals back in loving homes within their community. There are several organizations in the area that feel the need to travel to other states and or even other countries to bring animals here to adopt. It was very muddy and she helped us get there. I had called ahead and asked if they had puppies. She said yes and was expecting us. We looked at the puppies, and were given ample information about eating habits, local vets, and so on. We ended up adopting the puppy and she was very kind throughout.
