For example, they only had packaged lettuce not fresh lettuce. I wish they served fresh orange, grapefruit, etc. juices but they don't. They need more products which the community would buy. I have been coming to Cortland for years to visit my family and somehow never made it over here. Hidden inside the Local Food Mart is a tiny gem of a restaurant. Is it more expensive than every other place on town? Yes. Is it worth it? 1,000%. I literally said the words "I think this is the best meal I've ever had in Cortland". Coming from a food city (Miami), this place didn't shock me with their prices, as I typically spend the same amount on a lunch down there, but I really saw the value here. Local, organic foods, clean place, nice atmosphere, fast casual. Love it. Let's get to the food, shall we? We had a party of three that all showed up at separate times and all actually ordered the same thing: turkey pesto panini. It was amazing. The bread was so good, must have been local and it was so amazing. The combo of the veggies, pesto, cheese and turkey was perfection. My mom got it as a wrap with the cranberry slaw. Her fiancé got it as a panini with the potato salad, and I got it with the lentil curry soup. All sides were amazing, but I think the soup was by far the best. So. Yummy. I seriously love this place and can't wait to go back. read more

Great little cafe inside the health food market in Cortland. Huge variety of products in the store. Cafe had soups, sandwiches, salads, baked goods, juices, and smoothies.i saw that they had a number of oatmeal options for breakfast as well. I chose items to create my own salad and had a PB Choc Banana Smoothie. Both were delicious and healthy. Too bad it costs so much to eat food that is good for you. Salad and smoothie came to almost $20. I am not used to really paying that much for my lunches, but at least I was not eating junk! Tasted really good and the server was very nice. read more

I went to the cafe today for the third time since they opened about a year ago. I wasn't a huge fan initially; to be fair, they were still getting their bearings. After today's trip, I'm happy to say this will most likely become one of my regular spots for lunch when I'm in Cortland for work/school. Pros: friendly staff, vast selection of sandwiches, paninis, salads and breakfast foods, great housemade breads, plenty of seating, and conveniently located. I had the roasted eggplant panini with vegan dill potato salad and some blackberry ginger- infused water and all of it was exceptional. Cons: Not so much of a con as it is a bummer, but it is a bit pricey. Some of the sandwiches list for as much as $12.49 which makes it a bit less practical for those of us on a budget. You really can't argue with fresh, locally sourced food though. Overall, the cafe has really brought something to Cortland that it previously lacked-- serving the community with a conscience and in the name of better health. I will certainly be back soon to try some of their breakfast items! read more

My husband and I stopped in on the way from Canada to Long Island. I found it while searching vegan places nearby while we were driving. Love this place even from walking in. Many options for vegan vegetarian and gluten free. It is a market with a cute cafe. I built a salad at the cafe and then bought a vegan wrap to go. My husband got the Vermonter sandwich and it was amazing. I posted two photos of the menu so hopefully someone can enjoy this short stop like we did. read more

Love their juices! Although their prices are a little expensive, it is nice having the opportunity to buy great, healthy, and fresh items locally. I have been wanting to try Whole Heart Cafe since I heard about it upon recently moving back to the area. I stopped here with my mom today for a late lunch, and I was not disappointed. The cafe is located within The Local Food Market. It has a nice sitting area with tables and chairs, or if you are in a rush you can take your food to go. After scanning the menu, which includes many tasty options, I decided on the roasted veggie panini with a side of Asian broccoli slaw. My mom decided on a cinnamon scone and a mixed berry smoothie. The panini was quite good. The veggies tasted super fresh and the bread was toasted perfectly. The slaw was also very good. My mom said her scone was really good as well, and was not dry as some scones can be. For her smoothie she was given numerous milk options as well, including almond, coconut and local whole milk among others. The staff was super courteous and attentive. Overall, this place was great. Great casual place to grab a quick and healthy bite. I will definitely be returning to try some of their other menu options. read more

Yum. Great find for lunch as we drove south on I-81. Happy to find so many gluten free choices, and vegan choices, but still offers conventional fare. Pretty quick service, generous portions and prices a little high but the ingredients were very high quality. I enjoyed a greens and bean soup (excellent base) and the daily special of Thai peanut quinoa - amazing. I want to replicate this! Companion enjoyed a BLT and side of Mac-tuna Salad. I'll preface by saying the items I've had there have been fairly good. However... My issue stems from the confusing hours of this cafe. The times that their "kitchen" is open is not congruent with their overall hours. If you are hoping for a hot sandwich or other item besides salad and smoothie, be sure to call ahead. I have often wanted something on their Specials Menu at a reasonable hour (weekends have no kitchen service at all apparently...) only to find out that the kitchen is closed for the day. Also, they don't have WiFi. That is highly unusual and very disappointing. For these reasons, I rarely attempt to eat there and do not recommend it to others. read more

I lived in cortland for many years and this place is the only reason why I didn't starve. I love the food here. The quality of the food is very high. My family eats mostly organic and this is one of the very few places in cortland that sells organic foods. The prices are decent when you understand what you are actually eating and putting into your body. The only problem I have with this store is not even the customer service but the owner and, one day I asked "Where are your probiotic products?" the cashier didn't know and called the owner over and the owner was very rude to me and the cashier, the owner was screaming down the aisles about how she "Doesn't come to work to answer questions about probiotics." Along with saying other rude things about me. She then led me to an aisle of probiotics and left. She embarrassed me in front of a large group of people and didn't see anything wrong with it. read more

Heard the Whole Heart Café inside The Local Food Market on Main St in Cortland was amazing...The eggplant sandwich on Panini and homemade curry soup to die for--So stopped in. Relaxed, comfortable seating, friendly staff, and my curried vegetable soup, eggplant and endive sandwich and freshly infused pear-ginger water were sublime.
