I have been a consistent subscriber to the Whole Dog Journal since, at least, 2005. I love the informative articles on everything from treats & toys, to training & medical care. I love that they offer holistic,& naturalpathic information as well as traditional medical information.
The annual reviews of dog food in all forms, is a wonderful guide for those of us that choose to feed the best quality dog food we can afford. The fact that there are no advertisements is an added bonus!
The one thing keeping me from giving this journal a 5 star rating is that several years ago, they either switched owners or publishers & since their customer service is the pits!!!
Even though I've only allowed my subscription to lapse, by accident, a time or two, I have always renewed & gone back for the back issues. When this change happened, they did something to the website that requires you to register your online access to archived issues & subscriber only info separately from your user ID & password to the website, even though the website is where you verify your subscription status & make renewals! Under ideal circumstances this is annoying, but in the last year, since my most recent renewal, I have not been allowed to view the subscriber only articles or back issues despite going through that registration process SEVERAL times, getting confirmation & clicking the "click here to access subscriber only content," contained w/in that confirmation screen. I have sent numerous emails to them, with the only reply being that I need to register. They obviously didn't even read my emails or open the print screens I sent showing that I had done that. My frustration level with their lack of customer service has led me to seriously consider not renewing after all these years & yes I have stated that to them.
If you never have to contact customer service, never have an issue with your subscription or the website, you will love the WDJ. Otherwise I fear you will be just as frustrated, as I am, with the lackadaisical attitude they have towards their subscribers. Which is sad considering they rely on subscribers to fund their publication. read more
