We booked Sandy for the 2 week intro to hunting course. Sandy is the second dog we have booked at Hightest Kennels. We are amazed at how much progress she has made!! She can now fetch, swim, do water retrieves, excited at gunshots, heel and down. Brianna was our trainer and she is amazing! She breaths training confidence. I really valued the feedback we got from her while handling our dog after it was demonstrated to us. Hands off when they jump as holding them down is a form of praise just by touch. Solid advice Brianna!!! We deeply appreciate you loving on Sandy in between training sessions! Thank you so much Brianna!! Hightest Kennels for life!

Picture they sent with one of his updates

We brought our 14 month old Lab pup to Hightest for the 6 week obedience training. After the 6 weeks he is the same dog but a better version of the same dog. He is able to control his puppy energy now and focus even with a lot of distractions. He was able to pass the Canine Good Citizen test after being there- something he definitely wouldn't have been able to do prior. He is also now obedient while off leash! Every time we went there to visit he was so happy to see us but he was also happy to go back inside to the kennels. They also didn't mind us calling for updates regularly and they were able to text us updates and pictures of his progress as well! They treated our guy like their own and we will definitely consider sending him there for boarding if we go on any dog free vacations in the future. Thanks Hightest!

In June 2018, I dropped my dog off...Sarge...while I went on vacation with my family. HOWEVER, this is not the reason for my review. We were evacuated from our homes for over a week due to the Camp Fire. Hightest took Sarge in without a doubt. Today I saw Sarge happy as can be and ready to come home. This kennel was taking care of the community in ways I can't describe. The facility is top notch, with incredible people working there. I will continue to bring my dog, Sarge, to Hightest Kennels for any situation. I have recommended them to all of my family over the holidays. I extend that recommendation to you as well. Thank you to the faculty at Hightest Kennels. You make the community of Butte County what it is today.

Photo taken 8 days after leaving kennel. not healing

We dropped our 6 month old lab off for 2 weeks for intro to hunting and puppy training. When we picked him up we immediately noticed wounds on his front legs. The trainer (who looked about 16 years old) said all the dogs have wounds from licking their legs. I suspect it is from being left on a concrete floor for 23 hours a day. My dog was taken out maybe twice a day for training. Besides that he was in the kennel. I asked the staff if he had socialization with other dogs and they said he did not. My dog had a hard time walking the first 24 hours he got home. My son asked, "Why is he walking like that. What is wrong with him". I said he must have forgotten how to walk from being in a small kennel for so long. When I dropped my dog off I asked that they work on "off" as my dog tends to jump on people. The first thing my dog did when he saw me was jump up onto me. I was so disappointed. He was able to retrieve a duck from the pond and follow commands like heel and sit when the choke chain was yanked very hard. Thankfully, he is back to his old self but the wounds on his leg are not healing. This picture is 8 days after pick up. I will be taking him to our vet for a check up. Pros-The facility is well maintained and in a rural area. Staff is nice. Reasonably priced but you get what you pay for.

This place is amazing! We have two dogs that are both over 100lbs and recently had a baby. In preparation for the new arrival we brought them in for the 6 week obedience training. I cannot tell you how much they improved in that time. We have had them back for a week now and have been working with them to reinforce the training and they are so responsive. We used to have a lot of difficulty when we had people over because the dogs would get so worked up and excited both when people arrived and when they left. Today we had people over and it was a completely different situation after their training. They were excited but so much easier to manage and calmed down very quickly. In addition to the dogs behavior being so much better, everyone we worked with at Hightest was really friendly and helpful. They kept great watch over our pups and took great care of them while they were there. I would highly recommend bringing your dogs here, it was well worth it!!

We have just purchased our 3rd Lab from Hightest and love the people, facilities and especially the dogs! The best hunting dogs I have ever owned!

Well cared, came home tired, happy and clean! Fed them as I requested. Will return when needed.

Not great in most situations, scary in others :( He has a very sweet nature at home, but his and my quality of life was suffering due to his extreme reactivity to other dogs. Fun relaxing walks would quickly turn into stress-filled episodes of vicious lunging, snapping, and barking at other dogs. He is small but very frightening! I had dreamed of running through forests and fields, roaming everywhere with my little best friend. It just wasn't happening, it was stressing everyone out, we received glares and disapproving glances on the trails. I felt terribly embarrassed and wondered if there was any hope. I was pretty disappointed as I tried to accept our fate. Then we found High Tail. The results were miraculous, Max can now co-exist in peace with other dogs and doesn't even react anymore! I needed to understand how to work with his issues so he could recover and learn to trust. He needed kindness, understanding, and consequences. He is a special dog with a unique past and I think High Tail understood him and could gauge just how much work he could handle in training so he wouldn't get stressed. They keep it positive and make sure your dog is having a good time while learning. It was a great experience and I highly recommend them. They can probably help with most problems pretty quickly, I was extremely impressed and grateful that Max and I have a new life ahead full of doggy playtime and walks. Thank you High Tail!

She started yelling at me one time the first night because I was supposed to turn and go the other way than my dog and I was confused about when to turn around. Ryan got yelled at for whispering to me while she was talking. The second week she became a bully towards me she yelled at me two times. The first time was, "You better keep your hands together and not touch the rope with your right hand or I am going to come over there and tie them together with a rope my f'ing self" "You better pay attention and do it right because your stupidity is wasting class time". I think you get the idea. It was horrible and no way to treat someone that paid you $200. I no longer recommend Daughterty Dog training.

He new nothing of our appointment and seemed a bit confused and unfocused. He asked twice if we were there to drop off our dog, even after we told him we were there only to meet Julie and see the premises. We asked Todd if we could see the part of the house where our dog would be kept, away from other boarded animals. He said we could not enter that part of the house because two other dogs were staying there. We then told Todd we'd be happy to look in through the window. Todd declined again, saying cagily that he would have to "rearrange" some things. So, after driving 45 minutes with a confirmed appointment, we neither were able to meet the primary caregiver nor see the room where our dog would be staying. Julie texted us after we left to say she had forgotten the date. In ordinary circumstances this would be disturbing. After all, we would be entrusting our pet -- and her feeding and medication schedule -- to someone who apparently cannot manage her own schedule. (We just saw another Yelp review which reported the same thing.) And, Todd's unwillingness to let us look through a window into a room where two dogs supposedly were being boarded is highly suspicious. These circumstances were all the more troubling because before scheduling the visit I spoke to Julie at length about a bad experience my wife and I had with another home-based boarding service. On that occasion, the primary caregiver at the boarding facility refused to meet us and refused our request to see the interior of the building. Julie agreed that our experience with this other facility was very troubling and not acceptable -- and then she and her husband put us through virtually the same thing!!
