Strictly reviewing the golf course. My friends and I book this course because we always see openings early Saturday mornings. The layout of the course is pretty fun but you never know if your ball is going to end up in a dirt patch or not! When we were checking in, the guy who was checking us in for the carts was pretty rude to us as well. What's up: First time here, even though I pass by this golf course all the time. We heard that there was a cafe that served up some pretty good food, so we decided to check it out. Parking: Plenty of parking in their private lot up front. Environment: This review is only for the Whittier Narrows Golf Course Cafe. The cafe is located immediately to the right after you enter the main building (right next to the posted bulletin board). There are a handful of booth seating inside located on the left and the order counter is on the right. The menu is located overhead. We placed our order and grabbed a seat at one of the tables. There are also tables with umbrellas outside the cafe as well. Once the food was ready, the staff member brought it over to our table. The food came in to go containers so if you don't finish it like me, you'll be ready to take it to go. Utensils and condiments are located on the table that's right in front of the cold drinks fridge. What was ordered: - Sausage Breakfast Burrito (tasty and yummy salsa on the side. Also came with a couple hash brown pieces) - Orange Juice (Minute Maid bottle) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. I'll admit, we were kind of skeptical, but the food was surprisingly pretty good. Management could be better. Very rude and non-forgiving. So if you were thinking of playing with more than 4, you can't. The starter is strict with start times and rushing to get it moving, which I understand to increase pace of play, and to get as many people in and out, but he was quite rude about it. It ruined the experience and golf was no longer relaxing or fun. Also, 2 out of 2 of our carts ran out of juice during the course, but upside is they'll drive you a working one if you call them.. and last thing, there's 3 different 9-hole courses, starting with River, but they all look the same and I felt like I was playing the same hole at some point once we got to the bottom half of 18. read more

The fairways are so rought you need hiking boots and a hiking stick to walk through them, the layout is confusing and every single hole looks identical. Service: 4/5 staff was quick and attentive. Quality: 2/5 fairway is large but grass is in bad shape. Greens are awful, golfball looks like it's hiking towards the hole. The three nines here are called Mountain, River, and Pine. They should be called Dirt, Crab Grass, and Gopher Hole. Greens are OK, though.

This is one of the public golf course in the 626 area. There are a lot of parking spaces. Staff at the pro shop is friendly. I did not have a chance to try their cafe. This course has a pretty long distance. However, it was not well maintained. The lawn on the fairway was long, and I did not get a lot of roll. There times that you will not be able to fine your golf ball if you hit it to the rough because the rough is long. I will not likely to come back due to the course condition. read more

It was $70 for 18 and I got on the 1st tee box 45 minutes after my tee time. While waiting behind two 4 sums. The fairways are straight dirt and staff could've been way nicer AND there's no cart girl. Finished 13 holes in 5hrs and left. Pace of play is a huge issue here, not to mention if you tell them about it the Marshall will drive out to you and smoke a cigarette, and then forget the entire reason he was called out there. Just went in person after a year, thought conditions would be better than the last time I had played. They were not, in fact, they were worse somehow. How that is possible is beyond me. Nearly every fairway is unplayable, this place is damn near a worse carbon copy of the Links at Victoria. You gotta bring your own hitting mat if you even want a fair chance at hitting the ball pure. Once again, no marshal or ambassador enforcing the pace of play, so we had a threesome backing my group and everyone behind us. They were taking their sweet time to get to their ball, taking multiple practice swings, and then every shot would fly out 50 yds. Every hole was a 30 mins wait atleast, it was unplayable and we ended up leaving by the time we got to the 5th at Pine. Not to mention the women's club was playing and they were giving dirty stares every time you got near them or caught up to their group. As if people they have all the time in the world to play golf, and we don't have things to do afterwards. Absolutely horrid, I will NOT be coming back for whatever reason, the staff doesn't care, the manager doesn't care. It's not worth the time or the money to play golf here when I can play a decently well kept course nearby. To charge $57 for a round is incredibly absurd!! This place is an embarrassment and disgrace to golf and should be shut down immediately. BYE! read more

Horrible management in the front they can't just pick and choose when to apply the rules whenever they feel like it... Manager in the front said they don't allow spectators to watch because of liability issues but literally watched a girl go out with her bf no clubs and when it was brought it to his attention nothing was done about it... shame been coming here for 6 years and it's sad to see the way the employees take advantage of their so called " power"... read more

This is my first ever yelp review i don't like being mean but this was the worst golf experience ive ever had. Showed up at 12:40 for our 1:20 tee time. Checked in, warmed up, then had to wait in a line of 5 carts to tee off because they were out of golf carts, so we teed off at 1:50, sandwiched in between what felt like 5 other groups in front and behind. No cart service because they were too busy, fairways were dirt with gopher holes, ran out of blue gatorade, water fountain was white water, not clear. Avoid at all costs read more

The course staff randomly assigned a group just five minutes before my tee time. They told me that the starter decided to put them in. I'm sure the staff pocketed the golf fees from the randomly assigned group. Because of them, our group had to wait longer than usual, as did the group behind us. Why does this course never change? So needed to kill a little time while in the area, decided to go to the driving range, to get a little practice in. I did not play a round of golf, so I don't know how the course is and in what shape it was in, but the pro shop was decent, staffers were really helpful and friendly. The driving range was fairly nice with plenty of targets to shoot for. Small café/snack bar located on the premises, girl running it, when I went inside to take a look was really nice and friendly. So far, everything looks nice, will update the review when I actually play a game on the course. 4 stars from me. read more

They don't allow spectators. They wouldn't even allow me to bring me to bring my fiancé in the passenger seat while I play a solo round, unless I paid for her as a golfer. I've never heard of this at any golf course. read more

The Pros: Course condition is fine and decent. There are patches of dry grass here and there in the summer time, but gets better if it rains. Southern California is expected to be dry. The greens is also decent with good ball motion when putting. Not the best, but far from worst. Fairways are large with good lies and decent grass. There are some tall roughs on the side. Easy to lose balls. This course is perfect for golf improvement. This course has 27 holes. The main 18 holes River and Pine course is almost 7000 yards. The Mountain course is a good size 9 hole for everyone. They have a $50 monthly membership that includes a free bucket of range balls everyday. 1/2 price on cart rental and free at twilight. Awesome deal. The Cons: Some areas of the course could use some repairing and cut the grass down a little. A large bucket here is $18. A bit expensive compared to others. The range has no shade, extremely hot in summer sun The range close at 9pm, but if you get there at 7, there's always a line waiting to get balls. They need more range balls. The line is to wait for the staff to go fetch the balls back from the range. Balls are not washed after pick up from range. Very muddy. Facility miss management. Cleaness is not there forte. Restroom is always out of toilet papers and seat covers. No one seems to keep the place clean. I believe these are very much a management issues. Alhambra is much much cleaner. read more

Whittier Narrows Golf Course is literally 5 minutes from my house. I have played here a ton in the past, but this review is strictly for the Players Club Card Mountain 9 hole course and range All of the workers very very polite and friendly. The Mountain course is great. Always easy to get on and since it isn't played a ton , it is in great shape. Nice flat tee boxes, smooth greens and nice fairways. Yes it is on the shorter side, but it is wide enough for you to let the big dog eat. We like to play Fridays twilight and our 3-4some generally finish in under 2 hours. The Players Club Card is quite the bargain. $50/mo and you get a large bucket of range balls free every day, 50% off carts before 1pm and free after 1pm, 10% off the pro shop and a free drink with paid round. Just using it once today I got a large bucket, free cart and drink which comes out to about $30. The range isn't the best. The mats are worn and balls are old. There's no shade so it does get hot out there. read more

I'm not sure if it's like this all the time but the whole round there was a tremendous amount of gun fire. My group said there was a gun range nearby. I couldn't focus the whole time and had a miserable round. I don't think I'll ever go back and I'm not sure how anyone could enjoy playing in round with so much gun fire. read more

Two stars for the staff and greens. Course is in rough condition and that's the irony. The fairways played like the rough, as in not mowed in a while. Lots of dirt patches as well. Not sure if we would play here ever again. It would be one star if it wasn't super twilight and they let us go out 15 mins early because the course was pretty empty. It played slowed because it took a while to find your ball, even when on the fairway or just off. Greens were true though and in decent shape. And my cart died. Haven't played here in a long time, but was able to book an 8:30 tee time on Presidents' Day for $25 for 9 holes on the Mountain course. Pretty easy course that isn't too long and has wide fairways and not too many trees or bunkers to trip you up. Fairways are pretty jacked up and there are lots of dirt patches and dead grass on every hole. One thing that is pretty tricky is the greens are tiny. It's pretty hard to land it on the greens and most of my iron shots rolled off onto the intermediate fringe. However, the greens are pretty flat and really aren't that hard to read. We played at a leisurely pace, but did notice it got pretty busy in the afternoon. After my round, I decided to hit the range. It cost like $14 for a large bucket of 80 balls, but they charged like $1.50 for the rubber tee. I have never heard of that before. Overall, decent course that isn't too hard and is a decent course to get some practice rounds in. read more

Let's start with the good, the staff is very nice and friendly, they have an ok pro shop, pretty large driving range and pitch and putting greens. The bad, the course is the worst kept course I've ever played in 20 years. If this course was $10 for 18 holes, well ok... but $65 for 18 holes and a cart?! This course has no fairway, literally there is no fairway. It's covered in bumps, holes, dirt, anything but green flat fairway. It does a number on your clubs, really badly. I'm not kidding you they need off toad vehicles rather than golf carts. Probably won't ever come back unless I am forced to by friends. read more

My dad and his friends golf here once a week (retired bunch). They make the drive out there to play together because it's a midpoint for them. Last week, they go to check in (having made reservations) and were told that despite having a 1:30 pm tee time, they couldn't play because there was a tournament. Keep in mind, this is not a short drive for my dad and his friends to get to the course. Still, nothing was offered to them as a form of apology and they left feeling very upset. I don't understand how they could just unilaterally cancel a tee time without providing advance notice and being extremely apologetic? So unprofessional. My dad and his friends are also not native English speakers and I wonder if the employees would have been more apologetic if that weren't the case. I recently started coming to the Whittier Narrows driving range with my mom in the evenings. Can be a little dirty and it can get pretty crowded on the nice nights but I haven't had to wait more than 20 minutes for an open spot. My mom has some kind of membership there (price is around $50) that allows her to get a one large bucket of golf balls every single day of the month! I love that it keeps her active! read more

Would like to add more to review but they charged me and my friends different prices me and my friends are hispanic and some of them are darker than me but they charged me and my Asian friend $18 and my friends $60 and I asked why he said "okay then let me change yours to $60 if you want so bad" terrible service just beware of discrimination or fraud activities plus greens aren't even worth it. Course is in decent shape for a county course but the pace of play has been awful lately. I usually play twilight and sick of 5-6 hour rounds I tried booking a 9 AM tee time one day. Low and behold I didn't tee off until 9:45 because it was backed up already, then left after 14 holes because it was on pace for a 6+ hour round and I actually value my time. They really need to focus on speeding up pace of play, getting a marshall, a starter, and preventing people from cutting in at the turn. Even it means not overbooking tee times. There was also a grass range for a bit last fall but that seems to have stopped. read more

Played there on Saturday. The weather was from 78-83. A beautiful day for golf. I enjoy my weekends and coming to golf was just going to enhance it. After we started I immediately noticed that the fairways were not really kept up. Let me clarify: when driving in the golf cart, in the fairways it felt like I was off roading. My clubs were banging together and rattling around the whole time. I did have a cup of coffee when I started, but before the 2nd hole most of it had spilled out. Ok fine I'll just buy something else to drink. However, Missing was the beer/snack cart that most reputable golf courses have on the course. Ok fine I'll go to the club house once we make the turn after the 9th hole. You don't have a ton of time between hole 9 and 10- so I drive over to the vending area and jump in line. I am the 2nd customer in line. Then a person not in uniform comes roaring in yelling about whose cart was this. I replied that it was mine and would be out to move it as soon as I got my drink. He was not willing to budge and insisted I move the cart immediately. Again I repeated that I would move the cart as soon as I was served. I can see my group on the 10th tee box kind of waiting for me. There would not be enough time to move the cart to where the worker told me to and walk back get my drink and then walk back to the 10th tee box. So I held my tongue drove off without a drink and finished my round very thirsty and dizzy from the 4x4 in a golf cart experience. Customer service from the cart police was not customer friendly. If you go make sure you have your drinks packed ready to go because it's like a desert out there with no beer cart. A very bumpy desert read more

This place LOOKS like a nice place to play golf. LOOKS is a key word. Pace of play is absolutely horrendous took me and my partner 4 hours to play through 14 holes. Took my partner another hour to play through the last 4 As I had to cut out early. No Marshall on the course to ensure pace is maintained. Fairways are not actually fairways they are low cut rough very cushy if you get anything under the ball it's not going far at all. Rough is super deep causing the same issues as "fairway". Greens are bumpy and balls were bouncing all over when putting. This course has the potential to be a nice course if the grounds were maintained the way they should be. read more
