This place needs decent help. It's like a high school free for all. No one behind the counter seems to be interested in helping customers. They are too busy on their phones or talking to each other. I didn't even order because I waited 15 minutes to be served and that was my limit. They need a manager or mature staff member to train the employees on polite, respectful and prompt service. read more

I stopped by hoping for vegan options. They only has plain vegan vanilla in the freezer, and they couldn't add any toppings to it. I didn't buy it because it would just be plain and I wanted one of their well known concoctions that look amazing. Yes please! Whit's is exactly the kind of friendly frozen custard place that I miss from my days in Wisconsin. Vanilla, chocolate, and a weekly flavor, plus mix-ins and toppings: really all you need! The custard is thick, creamy, and delicious, and the portions are generous. I had vanilla Whitser with peanut butter cups mixed in, in a "mini" size that seemed like a small. They did an awesome job on the mix-ins, just the right amount and evenly mixed. My husband had a double cone with scoops of vanilla and chocolate. The scoops were *big*, which was lucky for me because I got to help him finish! Places like this just make me smile. Now, whenever we have a guest in town, we make it a point to bring them to Whit's. All our guests have enjoyed it as well! Their concept is simple. Whit's offers vanilla, chocolate, or flavor of the week. From there, you can choose to add toppings. You can also choose from one of their many specialties, favorites, shakes, and kids menu all with a vanilla base. You have an option of cones or cups (4 sizes). Riding around Davidson last night, just hanging out with my teenage daughter and we just happened upon Whit's. It was freezing outside, so I thought we'd have the place to ourselves. Silly me. Whit's has 3 flavors at any given time: Vanilla, chocolate and a flavor of the day. Yesterdays Flavor of the Day was Chocolate covered Strawberry! Strawberry frozen custard with chocolate shavings mixed in. That's what I wanted, but my daughter wanted plain old vanilla to go with our shared Brownie Sundae. Turns out it was delicious, anyway. The Brownie makes this sundae. They warmed it and it was one of those gooey undercooked brownies. OMG, so good. I was shivering while eating it, but didn't even care. They even distribute the hot fudge throughout too, so you have a little bit of it in every gooey bite. I'm telling you, it was pure perfection. Whit's is small but be patient. I only stopped in to buy a bottle of water at first but ended up sharing a custard creation with my mom when the young girl behind the counter gave me her own personal bottle of water (not charging me) when they ran out of bottled water. Perhaps her kindness was because I am obviously pregnant, but I'd like to think it was just simple Southern hospitality! Service: definitely 5 stars! My mom and I split a flavor of the week-orange creamsicle-Whitser Davidson delight (brownie bites, hot fudge, chopped nuts). The small would have been a large anywhere else! I normally do not like orange creamsicle but this was not overwhelmingly orange-y in flavor and was more heavy on the creamsicle part. All of the toppings were well mixed in and found in each bite! Seating is limited both inside and outside, and there was no line although I imagine on the weekends it gets crowded. If you can't park out front, public parking is only a few blocks away. Prices are beyond reasonable ($4.25 for the small Whitser which was more like a large) for what you get. I definitely recommend stopping by Whit's if you are in Davidson! read more

Paid for a medium and feel I didn't get all that I paid for. Everyone else was walking out with a cup over filled with ice cream and I had a half filled cup. They seemed as if they were in a rush. And sat your custard down with ice cream all over the sides and cups filthy with chocolate that should have been in the cup. Big turn off for my first time. I also got my husband one his is over flowing yet mine doesn't even touch the top of the cup. What makes a person happy is when they know that they are getting what they pay for. This better be great because this has already left a sour taste in my mouth. Edit: the custard was great and I really enjoyed it. I will go back and give them another try. I'm a huge dessert and sweet lover, but I'm embarrassed to share I haven't had frozen custard before..until now! Well that won't be the case anymore. Frozen custard is delicious. After some research, it is creamier than ice cream due to using the yolk in the egg (whereas ice cream only uses the whites) and a higher percentage of butterfat. I prefer creamier ice creams so this may become my go to. Like a Dairy Queen Blizzard, you can get a "whizzard" with add in's mixed in to the custard. The generic custard flavors are vanilla and chocolate, and they have a weekly flavor of the week (this time it was mint chocolate chip). You can get it in cones or cups, with toppings mixed in or on top. We will be back soon! read more

I wish I could do zero stars cause I had an incredibly terrible experience going here. Some people don't know simple common sense a worker dropped my milkshake and gave it to me saying "oh sh*t" and proceeded to walk away and not acknowledge her mistake. If the manager sees this I hope he knows that he needs to teach his coworkers some respect and decency. My friend felt very insecure with all the b*tchy stares, all we wanted was frozen custard and this was my friends first time here. We found out about this place by sheer luck and was happy we did. For the longest time I was on the lookout for a frozen custard place that mixed your custard made-to-order. The first time I went here I had the raspberry-macadamia nut-chocolate fudge specialty option. It was good but I could've done without the nuts. My friend had the buckeye madness with PB and chocolate. My husband loved the grasshopper too (mint chocolate). Next time I had the vanilla custard with blueberries mixed in it. That was amazing too. Frozen custard is so much creamier than ice cream, it's hard for me to pick ice cream or frozen yogurt over that. I do recommend to get the frozen custard with topping mixed in rather than topped. I'll admit that I'm a BIG fan of Whit's custard. I like softer ice cream, and theirs suits my taste perfectly. I've been half a dozen times already, and get either the Luscious Lake Norman (with pecans) or Oh Henry (with peanuts). Both have hot caramel and hot fudge. Yum! Their sundaes are my favorite--since I really like to separate my bits of the caramel and fudge--but the Whitser is good if you like everything mixed together. There are several size options, and I've found the mini to be just the perfect size for me. And it's less than $4, so what a deal for a sundae! read more

Why eat frozen yogurt or regular store bought ice cream when you can have custard! This custard comes in two main flavors, vanilla and chocolate, but the toppings are almost endless. I chose the delight which came with fudge, caramel, peanuts and brownie bites. It was full of toppings all mixed in and the vanilla custard was perfectly smooth and creamy. My friends got a couple different flavors, chocolate with Oreos and the Buckeye (which was their flavor for the day). Both were delicious. Yum!!!!! Frozen custard is the new ice cream. I found this hidden gem about 15 minutes from my house and it was crowded for a Sunday afternoon. I was not too impressed by the customer service but the taste of the custard is the only reason I am giving this place four stars. The custard was smooth and they did not skimp on the ingredients. I would not sit in the restaurant because it is so tight in there. They also don't have a bathroom...that is a problem. However, the ice cream is good and I will get it to go. read more

Finally found a place I can compare to a place I loved back in my home town! Tonight was the first night stopping in & boy we weren't disappointed!!! My word of advice is don't ask for a double scoop on your cones, one scoop can feed 2...lol Hubs & I both got the flavor of the month; Penguin Tracks with chocolate dipped cone. This is so amazing. Chill staff and endless flavors! The buckeye madness is so good. Reese's cup chocolate syrup and peanut butter!!! Can't wait to try more. One of the owners quickly stepped up and asked if it was our first time there. (It was) so she gave us a great run down of the menu, her business, and the background of the franchise too. Could totally tell she was passionate about Whit's! I enjoyed that some of the staff was wearing Ohio State Buckeye jerseys. I even asked if they were big Buckeye fans, and the owner said the business is out of Ohio, but it helps that they are buckeye fans too. Pretty fitting. I kinda of figured since the shop colors, the jerseys, and even the buckeye madness all had to do with Ohio State. Now I wonder what jerseys they wear on Sunday's? Hopefully not the Browns. Kind of wish this place was in a more of a "prime" location, it's sort of tucked away off the road. That's good news for my wife and I because that means we might not have to wait as long to get our custard! Overall, we LOVED our experience. We showed up 10 minutes before closing on a Saturday night, and were warmly greeted by smiles from all the employees, and even engaged in conversation. Can't believe I just went here for the first time. Truly the frozen custard reminded me of gelato. It is scooped, not drained out of a machine. They have vanilla, chocolate and a flavor of the day and a veritable plethora of toppings. They have maybe 12 special recipes for when you don't want to have to choose. Tried Whit's for the first time two weekends ago, and it's been on my Davidson list for a while now. Overall, I had a decent experience. This place is very small, and seating is limited. It is helpful to either go outside or get your custard to-go. Waiting for a table makes the already small space feedl really crowded. I ordered a mini whitser with strawberries, blueberries, and brownies. My order was actually lost, and after I waited for a long time my husband went to the counter. They were apologetic and made it immediately. I ordered the fruit in an attempt to be somewhat healthy and was disappointed to find that the blueberries were actually a sugary, blueberry syrup and not real blueberries (same for the strawberries). Overall, I didn't enjoy my custard that much and my customer service experience wasn't awesome. read more
