Hands down the best contractor in Virginia Beach and I've owned a place here for 22 years with numerous renovations projects. Rich is honest, on time, communitive, proactive, and detailed. There wasn't a single day work was not getting done. He finished early and on budget. His standards and honesty reflect what he would do in his own home project. Not a get it done as quickly as possible and get home for the day which unfortunately has been my previous experiences with contractors in this area. We recently had our kitchen and dining room combined and opened up to the rest of the house--a major renovation project. To begin, we contacted several kitchen remodelers, had them visit our home, and explained our vision. We asked each for a project estimate and also reviewed their online reputations. We ultimately chose Whitney Construction, and we're very glad we did. Their estimate stood out as a detailed contract that outlined every aspect of the work to be done--far more thorough than the others we received. Additionally, nearly all of their online reviews were glowing. Out of many, only two were negative: one complained about a worker's vehicle blocking a mailbox (with no mention of work quality), and the other was an overly broad complaint that didn't align with the overwhelmingly positive feedback we saw elsewhere. Given this, we felt confident moving forward with Whitney Construction. Their contract clearly laid out not only what they would do, but also what we needed to have ready before work began. While the general kitchen layout was provided, we were responsible for choosing the cabinet and countertop style, hardware, backsplash, flooring, sink, faucet, paint colors, and new appliances. Mr. Whitney offered helpful recommendations for where to find quality materials and fixtures. Before demolition and construction began, Mr. Whitney visited to review the project scope and provide a projected timeline. Communication was excellent--every morning, we were told when the crew would arrive and what work would be completed that day. They were always punctual and stayed until the planned tasks were done. Mr. Whitney or his foreman, Mr. Uhland, arrived early each day to set up plastic barriers to contain dust and debris. One or both remained on-site to ensure everything was completed to a high standard. Any issue, no matter how minor, was addressed immediately. At the end of each day, debris was removed to the dumpster, the plastic walls came down, and the space was left spotlessly clean. We are exceedingly pleased with the results. Our kitchen is not only beautiful, but also reflects the professionalism, attention to detail, and dedication of everyone involved. We especially appreciated Mr. Whitney's willingness to listen to our ideas, gently guide us when something could be improved, and work collaboratively toward the best outcome. His time management and commitment to excellence were clear every step of the way. I bought a house that was built in 1974 and needed a complete remodel. I started with the entire downstairs including a big kitchen remodel, and knocking out walls. I couldn't have been more impressed with Rich's design ideas and suggestions, as well as his help with working through my decisions for every aspect of the job. His years of experience of doing this definitely showed. He always gave me pro's and cons to everything and I loved his advice on "function or fashion" - what do you want. It allowed me to make the decisions that were right for my family. He communicated clearly to me for what to expect when things would happen as well as when he needed final decisions from me to keep the project on track. When they started tearing down walls and ripping up floors- and "unexpected" items came up. He was very good about showing me and working through potential creative solutions. On top of it- he finished very quickly, with high quality, and ahead of schedule. Since then I have other small jobs I was lucky enough for him to work in for me, including an upstairs leak in a bathroom that we ended up renovating - it worked out perfectly and is beautiful - perfect for the space.
