This deli is a hidden gem! The building is beautiful on the outside and when you walk in it seems smaller than you would expect. There are plenty of tables to seat yourself. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and gave us time to look over the menu since it was our first time there. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with pasta salad. The pasta salad was the best I've ever had! Nice and fresh and had a lovely taste to it. The meat on the cheesesteak was cooked just right and also had great flavor. They didn't skimp out on the meat it was literally falling out of the sandwich with each bite. I loved how low key this place was and its food was top notch! read more

Mary and I stopped in for breakfast; we were greeted by friendly staff, and ordered. Mary had the biscuits and gravy with bacon, delicious. I had hotcakes and sausage; the cakes were light and fluffy, just as they should be. read more

Very impressed with this cozy, well-established, uniquely-themed little cafe in the heart of an also uniquely-themed small town! So clean and inviting! The unique theme draws guests to take pics and chat about all the items they can name throughout the place that start with a W! We will come again soon! read more

My husband and I got an early start to finish getting pictures of large things in town, stopped by for breakfast and largest W's! Everything was amazing, staff very nice and personable, shop clean and whimsical with a lot of W things! I had a breakfast bowl which was excellent, fresh and flavorful. My husband had an omelette and biscuits (he said some of the best biscuits he has ever eaten!) the coffee was very good, smooth and fresh. Restroom clean, parking is on the street. read more

What a darling spot!! ohh my gosh where do I begin? We found this little cafe on our way to visit the "big things in the small town" (like windchime, ruler, mailbox etc). and boy is it cute! A small wrap around porch greets you when you enter the place. You can order from the counter any number of simple yet tasty breakfast and lunch combos. Sandwhiches, chips, soup, salad etc. All the main staples done really well. And even some with a twist (like blueberry applesauce!) The icing on the cake? You can get an entire meal for about $4-5, making it a phenomenal deal as well. The staff are so quick and courteous, the environment is so welcoming, and we just had a great time. I'd give more stars if I could :) read more

You have to order at the counter and the only menu I could see was taped to the counter. I ordered the chicken club with macaroni salad and a side salad. The sandwich was bigger than I expected. They used high quality ingredients. The girl at the counter was really nice. She was able to off me suggestions when asked. There is seating inside and outside of the restaurant. read more

Honestly, so disappointed. Ate here for lunch this past Saturday and my child's grilled cheese was "done" before we could even get to our table. As I thought, the cheese wasn't even melted! All the food looked unappetizing and tasted very bland. Iceberg lettuce. The bakery aspect was very small (and underwhelming) and everything was wrapped in plastic. Super disappointing. The one really nice feature about this restaurant was the covered porch with ceiling fans. Unfortunately, I won't be returning on future visits to this adorable town. read more

Nice lunch spot with a great location. Variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more. Interesting twists on the classics. They offer a daily lunch special that is typically priced $6-$7. Nice deal. Can be a little slow, but such a great location with elegant landscaping, there's no cause to be in a hurry. If you are, call ahead. read more

We ate here one day while passing through and exploring the town. I liked the feel of Whitling Whimsy - it felt like being in a log cabin, plus that small town feeling. Not too crowded, and the people were nice. We ate outside on the patio with a view of the world's largest wind chimes. I got the club sandwich, which was decent but nothing special. My wife thought her food was very average too. The best thing I can say about this place was their prices. My wife, daughter and I all ate there for less than $20. That's less than I'd pay at a fast food place. I would give them another chance, but maybe not before exploring some of the other options in town. read more

Food good prices fair service friendly. Nice home town feel. Clean and comfortable good basic food

Great little place. Their prices are unbelievable cheap. We paid $11 for two people. I had the biscuit and gravy half order and hash brown, as well as a French vanilla cappuccino, which came with a dollop of whipped cream. It was very tasty. The place is conveniently located right next to the worlds largest wind home. Definitely would go back. read more

My wife collects travel literature and probably has enough to open a travel agency. So, as we're driving across SE Illinois, she tells me about the town of Casey, IL that has a collection of the world's largest "things". Seems that the gentleman who owns the Whittling Whimsy Cafe has constructed the world's largest (as certified by Guinness Book of World's Records) wind chime, golf tee, rocking chair, pitchfork, pencil, birdcage and mailbox. He also has the world's largest pair of clogs but they're in the candy store which was closed by the time we were here. We also missed the world's largest knitting needles but may have seen them and mistook them for telephone poles. The town of Casey is literally just off of I-70 and all of his creations are located within about a mile radius. In fact, with the exception of the golf tee and pitchfork, all of the creations are located within a 2-3 block area of downtown. You owe it to yourself to get off the interstate and see these marvelous creations. read more

Visited Casey, IL with my family cause the city is know for random world largest objects throughout the city. We had lunch at Whitling Whimsy, a local cafe in town. My wife ordered the pulled pork nachos, which were ok in flavor. Cheese was not melted cheese, so cheese was somewhat cold. Their soup of the day was cheesy chicken and rice. Had I heard the word cheesy from the employee, then I wouldn't have ordered the soup. Nonetheless I did, and it sure was cheesy. It was like sipping velveeta soup. Their Classic Club was a very basic sandwich, had a nice toast to the bread. I had to try their homemade rice crispy treat, and that was delicious. Overall, the food quality is more basic than what I had anticipated. read more

For a breakfast person, this joint hit the spot. We ordered pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, omelettes, and hash browns. Portions were LARGE. Everything was great, but I'd especially recommend the French toast and omelettes. I wish they served for dinner because I would have gladly eaten here for dinner last night than another restaurant in town. If we come back to Casey, IL, we would gladly come back. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Scored the deals of the day here while visiting Casey's "World's Largest" attractions. Purchased a bottle of water and two sweet treats for less than $2.25! I even asked the young guy checking us out if the total was correct. Haha. I'm used to Chicagoland prices. Friendly kids working on a Saturday afternoon and the cafe is super clean and the ambiance is quite nice. The cafe is located directly adjacent to the World's Largest Wind Chime. We also picked up our site seeing map here at the cafe. Highly recommend. They had a lovely menu and are in a great location; within in walking distance of nearly everything on your map. read more

Passing through and did not want fast food but it's what I got. Cafeteria-style serving food. I got a nasty Roast beef and Cheddar on an onion roll. It tastes like rubber so it's pressed beef and fat like that roast beef chain RB's. Did not finish it. But, the small salad was green and the iced tea was good. I posted a review on another site (ggl), and all the owner (or whomever) had to say was "sorry you did not like it". Nothing like.... please contact me so we can make it right or come back so we can redo it. We should have gone to the Sub (Way) up the street and got the real roast beef. Pictures are mostly of the town, not the food at this place... this is a food review! read more

Everything clean. Nice. Basic. Yummy. Flawlessly and carefully and lovingly maintained. Looks brand new. Loved the Windchime and meticulous garden around it. Beautiful! Color and design. This was lovingly planned out and put together. My family enjoyed ringing the Windchime. Loved the cafe next door. Fun game inside to see everything that starts with a "W" inside the shop. Including a "Where's Waldo" book. Stay as long as you like or you can be in and out quickly. Nice basic food choices. Very reasonable money amounts. read more

Pretty tasty, yet basic food. Service is friendly and it connects the experience of the whole town and its large objects. It is connected to the visitor's center and world's largest wind chimes, so there is a lot to take in and read if you're waiting. It has the feel of one of those local ice cream/sandwich shops, where everyone goes and knows each other. The food is similar to those places as well. Typical, mid-west, basic, American cuisine. read more

We loved everything about this restaurant!! Their patio with outside seating was awesome! The view of the World's Largest Wind Chimes was fun to see. The employees were very nice and helpful. The food was excellent!!! My kids LOVED the hotdog (it was slides open and grilled) and I've never had a better Club Sandwich. Perfect Cafe for a great little BIG town!!! (It reminded me of the Whistle Stop Cafe in Fried Green Tomatoes). They are CLOSED ON SUNDAY. We visited this restaurant with 2 power wheelchairs. It's a little tight in the inside where you order, but the outside seating was perfect for 2 power wheelchairs! read more

Phenomenal! Had the chicken salad sandwich and it was heavenly...buttery Texas toast & perfectly homemade chicken salad coupled with a side of homemade pasta salad and sweet tea. Finished off with homemade cherry cheesecake...simply exquisite! And all this for under $10. Make sure to see all the "world's largest" then enjoy a lunch here! read more

Amazing food, and amazing service, great atmosphere, and make sure to check the world's largest wind chime.

Came here while on business for a lunch. Eclectic decor, decently friendly staff. I ordered my Williams Grocery sandwich to go; they had my order in 4 minutes! The sandwich had a nice thick cut of bologna, American cheese, added lettuce and mayo. It was grilled nicely, however was lacking some of the grown up flair I had hoped for. You can also sit outside to see the worlds largest wind chime! read more

Whitling Whimsy - Blueberry applesauce-as delicious as it sounds! - Cafes Near Me - Casey, Illinois

We stopped in to Whitling Whimsy after coming to Casey for the various "World's Biggest" items and working up an appetite. We ordered three different sandwiches, each with a side of either chips or pasta salad and a cup of soup. The Thanksgiving turkey, chicken salad, and fried bologna sandwiches were all simple but tasty. The pasta salad was serviceable and slightly sweet. The tomato basil soup could have used a little more salt and pepper (and there wasn't any on the table outside where we sat), but that was my only gripe with the food. Service was great, in spite of it being a very busy Saturday afternoon with the restaurant packed with people coming into town for the same reason we did. We got our food fast and with a smile. The inside of the restaurant did have a faint "overworked grill" smell, but since it wasn't overpowering and there were plenty of seating options outside on a beautiful day, we didn't mind. I'd be curious to see if the smell is still present on a less-busy day. I don't know when I'll be back to Casey, but if I do return, I'll stop by again for another sandwich and to try the coffee/baked treats. read more

I stumbled across Whitling Whimsy during a spontaneous pit stop. The cafe was so welcoming and peaceful. The decoration of the cafe was very fun to look at while enjoying our food. The food was delicious, quick, and just what we needed to get us through to our destination, all for a great price! I had the chicken salad sandwich and the cheesy chicken rice soup. My friend had the chili. It did not disappoint. The staff was pleasant, informative, and inviting.
