If you plan to bring a large group here I would highly suggest going anywhere else. Attempting to enforce a $30 birthday cake fee while our group had already paid hundreds of dollars for bowling, food and drinks is absolutely absurd. The burgers and fries were great, along with the bartender being very accommodating. It's sad to see management look at paying customers and demand MORE money. Old School bowling alley with excellent customer service. The people that work here are helpful and polite, prices for bowling "won't break the bank", it is a laid-back atmosphere (except Fri & Sat nights - which are not kid friendly IMO). They also have a pro-shop, in-house snack bar and a bar with adult beverages (not open on Sunday). Side note, the selection of bowling balls can be sparse at times. From the moment my girlfriend and I walked into the doors to white wood lanes we were greeted and welcomed with the most open of arms! Aiden and the other gentleman that were running the counter were amazing and very polite and friendly answering all our questions about the bowling alley and how it all worked! Next was Kasey and the other lady running the kitchen they were also very friendly and welcoming! We tried their world famous hand battered mozzarella sticks and man oh man they were amazing!!! Lastly huge shout out to Stefan! The way he run this beautiful bowling center in remarkable and I am so excited to go back another time and have another amazing experience! Haven't bowled here since I was a kid. We came on $6 Tuesday and had a great time! AMAZING food. The house burger and cheese sticks are the best in town in my opinion. Staff were also super friendly. Trying to figure out why all the bad reviews about this bowling alley but now I can see where they are coming from. Came here with my family in Lubbock for a night out to enjoy a few rounds which was a decent price. I would say it was about $7 a person but then that's when they get you, after we started t bowling, the computer started messing up or something. We had pins that were supposed to have been counted when knocked down but not counted and pins that you did not fall over still show up as points for you. Shampoo, rinse and repeat if necessary, this happened about another four or five times, maybe this was a fluke for our lane but we noticed the same thing happened in the other lanes . It wasn't terribly dirty inside but you could tell that the place has had better days, time for an update? Probably so but then that would mean raising their prices drawing more people away from here. First thing I would do would be to fix those dang score computers. Hopefully somebody sees all of these bad reviews about the place and fixes what everybody is dismayed about if not, sayanara... been nice knowing you. read more

Disappointed by the staff and the unfortunate mechanic related problems. We paid to bowl here and were using two 9 pound balls. We went to go buy some cheese sticks and came back to find the balls missing. A staff member came up and replaced one of them, but explained that they're for women and children. Firstly, it's understandable to save the lighter balls for those who need it but we were applicable and it almost seemed discriminatory and not inclusive to give us that excuse for taking our balls. The excuse that a man cannot use a 9 pound ball was not understandable. People have limitations and I don't think gender should define the weight of the ball you use.. and if we chose those two balls we chose them for a reason. (As someone with a chronic illness that falls under the category of an invisible illness that isn't obvious to some that I'm considered disabled it hit a little bit harder) If you're lacking lighter balls then you should up your selection and buy more for your lanes. Secondly, the score was not registering correctly and the lane froze up during our last bowl. We asked to continue playing, but were told that we'd have to wait 20 minutes for a mechanic to fix it. Overall, disappointing. The cheese sticks were still good, but not going out of our way to Whitewood anymore. We'll just go elsewhere. read more

We use to love bowling at whitewood lanes. The last several times we've been here it's been something else. This time we walked in and we were told someone had rented the whole place out and we couldn't bowl until about 230. No big deal, but that would have been nice to know when we called to ask about food. We went in to order our food and one of the employees was complaining about her manager and how awful she was and just on and on and on, not something you want to sit and listen to when you're just trying to have a fun day with your family. Once everyone started lining up to get their lanes the guy at the front was so so rude. He acted like he hates his job, in my opinion if you hate it so bad go somewhere else instead of ruining someone else's fun! We won't be back but I hope for the sake of everyone who does choose to go, that their staff straightens up. read more

My husband, baby, and I went to Whitewood for a birthday party. I saw on the doors that no outside food or beverage was allowed. Everywhere I have ever gone, including many bowling alleys, this has not included water. As a breastfeeding mom, I always have my water bottle with me in order to stay hydrated, especially when doing a physical activity. My water bottle was in the outside pocket of the diaper, completely visible. I was not told upon entering, or during the half our wait, or even while at the counter paying and getting my shoes that I could not have my water bottle. Once we got to our lane. I pulled out my water bottle and put it on the table that is behind the lanes since I know no drinks are allowed down on the lane. Within minutes an announcement was made that no outside beverages, including water, was allowed. This surprised me but I complied and put my water bottle away. I went to the counter to ask if I could empty my water bottle, show them, and then fill it at the water fountain. I was told I could not because "no outside containers" are allowed. It does not say this anywhere on the doors when entering. I was told I could get water at the grill, which is fine, but the cups are tiny. Being a breastfeeding mom I am drinking around 20 onces at a time. Which meant I would have to continually refill the cup. I find it very frustrating that this was not posted anywhere and that someone couldn't have just come and let us know instead of announcing it (we were the only ones with a water bottle so it was pretty obvious). It's already hard and stressful enough trying to go out with a baby, especially if breastfeeding, and this experience made it even worse. We definitely will choose a different bowling alley next time. read more

Local lanes with some of THE most friendly staff we have EVER encountered at any bowling alley we have ever been to! The weather dropped to below freezing, so we needed something to kill time indoors, and we are so glad we picked this place! Great thing to add to our New Year's Day while out of town - by the time we came out, it was snowing!!! read more

After reading the prior reviews, I feel that they are harsh and not very fair to the Bowling Center. Although it is not all decked out like Main Event there is a reason. The bowling center is just that, it's bowling. It is not an entertainment center or a daycare. With that being said, to be fair to the people that come to bowl, people should watch their children and not let them run wild. This is really not the bowling center's responsibility! The lanes and approaches in the center are well kept, but like anything that is mechanical, they sometimes break. The staff are always very respectful and try their best to accommodate their customers. Although everyone is allowed to have their opinion, I respectfully disagree with the other ratings. read more

We came here to bowl Saturday. The main reasons we chose Whitewood were 1) they actually answered the phone 2) they had info on their website and 3) the prices were very reasonable. We had a great time!! Yes, this bowling alley is older, but I kind of liked it. It reminded me of my very young days of spending time at the bowling alley while my parents bowled on a league (different town but bowling alley layout was very similar). I think the carpet on the walls might have actually been the same pattern. The lanes were cleaned between patrons and the person responsible for grabbing rogue pins or balls stuck on the lane was very responsive. We paid for an hour and went back to pay for another because we were having so much fun. One patron got into a loud verbal altercation with another patron (bad language and all) which was a little alarming, but staff was quick to respond and settle down the issue. We aren't normally bowlers, so I can't speak about the quality of the lanes, but overall, we had a great experience. I would rather pay $6 per person per hour WITH shoes for a fun "back to the 80s" experience than pay $38 plus shoe rentals for each person just to bowl under neon lights and pins. read more

Even though I spent countless hours at this place in the summer of '07, I can only give it a three star rating. Cause it's really just a crappy old bowling alley, comparatively. But man I had some good times here. This place is super nostalgic for me because my husband joined a bowling league there in what would turn out to be my last summer living in Lubbock. At first I didn't even want to go with him when he went to play, but as the summer wore on I found myself and some great people all coming down every week to watch these fools throw bowling balls, drink beer. and fight with the equipment when it would jack up their game. I always ordered some crappy food from the crappy concession stand, since that's just what you do at places like this. It was usually stuffy inside, unless you were lucky enough to be assigned to the lanes near the crappy old fan. And then we would sometimes drink crappy beer in the smoky and stinky bar after the games were over. You know, in one of those bar that is so offensive even a smoker can barely stand it. Gotta love it. Ah.... good times. Don't expect much from this place, but it's cheap, and they have a bowling league going on almost all the time. It is something fun to do, and different than the same old same old the LBK has to offer. read more

This place is dope. We legit live right behind it so we walk from our alley over to bowl. College student discount is ridiculously low so it's a lot of fun for all of us. Recommend this place 10/10 times. You can tell the place has some wear and tear, but the food is good, the bowling is great, and the employees are awesome. Don't expect a huge pinstack or main event, but just a bowling alley where you can have fun. Love this place and spend too much time there instead of class. read more

Sad little bowling alley. This place use to be great but now it is just old and outdated. They do have pretty good bowling specials. $1 per game on most weekdays, but if you are going there with your own ball DONT DO IT!!! Their ball returns will scratch up and chip your ball. I rarely if ever do this but we had such a horrible experience I feel I might be able to save someone the headache of going here. We first walked in to be greeted by the woman behind the counter, Sandra, talking to a customer like they were stupid. I already explained this to you once when you started bowling your time starts she barked. I should've left then. We were told it was the middle of a shift change and that we would have to wait to pay. My wife asked for a lane by the bar and was totally ignored twice. We bit our tongues and went towards the completely opposite side we requested and there were plenty of lanes open. We got our shoes and my wife got up to get a drink before we started and found our they had already started our time. I asked if they could wait to start our time and that we wanted to get a drink, but Matthew (the new person working) said no. Our screen kept cutting out and the pins came up with one on the ground numerous times. In the middle of my second turn Matthew comes onto my lane to collect the payment. I don't know why they couldn't wait until my turn was done. I was overcharged and then finally paid cash for the difference and I'm not done. Our screen then cut off to the point we were moved to another lane. That was the straw that broke this camels back I went to three counter with my wife who asked if there was a manager we could speak to. Here was Matthew, my wife, and eventually Sandra's reply: Matthew: "Why? Tell me why and I'll see if I can get someone. Wife: I want to speak with a manager please. To which he again asks why and that he'll get someone if we tell him why so we told him the whole thing even though he had seen all of this. Sandra then walks up and asks us what is wrong and again wet explain that all the problems took up time and that we didn't want to stay 30 minutes into the hour we had paid for. Sandra's word for word response (keep in mind this is the same lady we walked into being rude to another customer) "I'm not a manager but I don't know what it is you want" How about some respect or a decent experience or a little empathy for the fact that your lane was broken. I will not be back here and its right by my house but I'd rather drive out the way then to ever return here! read more

First time there. Met the owner who was working in the front area handing out shoes and then helping in the snack bar area. This is a family owned business. It is decorated 80 style. Older, but still good. Clean, and quite spacious. Staff was very very friendly! ! I will go back. Some of the balls need to be put out to pasture, to many digs in them, but most are good. read more

This bowling alley is fairly sad. The snack bar is more like a wack bar... there's no pickles, or candy!? You have to use the vending machine if you want candy which is old and useless. Our candy got stuck like three times we had to use over three dollars and shake the machine to get what we paid for. The score boards had more than one glitch, it took a while for us to even get our game started. The place is just very old. The one good thing about this place is it is very cheap and a fun time to come with friends to just have a good time. read more

I don't usually go rating places like this but this experience was ridiculous. First we waited on hour. Then we get to the lane and a couple of us want bumpers. We sign up for bumpers and when game starts they don't do anything. I go to the front desk and tell them the problem. They said "yea, either everyone has to have bumpers or be 10 and under" that is the worst answer ever and makes absolutely no sense. They don't really seem to car either. Another thing was our land kept messing up. They didn't fix it. Well, I'm sorry that I wasted my money here. I could have said no to waiting an hour and went to somewhere better in town like Main Event where your money is worth it. Don't waste your money! This place has poor customer service. The ball return is out dated. I had to wait 30 mins for them to fix it. The manager did not even say sorry or offer any kind of discount. We did not even get to finish our game. And had to pay full price for the game. I could not believe it! The manager said the owner told him to treat customers this way? This is after when bought food here. We spent about $60.00 here. I will never go back. I have never been treat so rudely by a manager of all people!
