Bought a Groupon for the family-friendly trip with Class 1-2 rapids. They had a bit of a mix-up regarding when the Groupon could be used on Sundays when making a reservation, but it was quickly and easily cleared up. I was told to wear old sneakers and that swimwear was not required but it would have made more sense to wear water shoes and swimwear with athletic quick dry shorts. You get very wet and there are opportunities to go swimming while on the river. The river was supposedly running a bit dry and our trip was delayed nearly an hour waiting for it the water to flow from the dam release. While we waited on the river bank, I wish they used the time to give tips for rafting. There were a few rapids and the experience was a lot more mild than expected. If anything it was more paddling than rafting. Fortunately, the weather was great. Wish they gave a more accurate estimate of how long the total trip would take and that it was timed to not clash with another large group of rafters from another company, which made for a confusing experience trying to regroup when the rafts got mixed up and having amateur and first-time family rafters trying to navigate their boats around each other. read more

Our Guide: Hey, you guys from New York and New Jersey - this is where your Christmas trees come from (said to a group of Muslims on our bus). Maybe I went whitewater rafting on the wrong day. I knew the day was going to be so-so when I was stuck between 2 buses driving up. When I arrived, it was an absolute zoo - I thought it was going to be like 5 rafts out on the river. WRONG! After navigating a maze, I drove to 7 guys in yellow jackets who acted like checkpoints to get to the parking area. Once we parked, it seemed like a zoo with people running around having water fights with no regard near the check-in area (it was only an omen for what was going to happen on the river). Our group checked in, dodged water gun spray, signed the waivers, dodged more water gun spray, put on wet moldy life jackets (I'm pretty low maintenance, but those jackets stunk like a combo of ass, feet, and refurbished garbage), dodged even more water gun spray, and then boarded the bus. It was about a 20 minute ride to the staging area and we got our instructions from our guides. There were 3 bus loads of people which translated into about 30 rafts on the river - and about 7 rafts full of absolutely idiots. Each raft contained a bucket with a lid to put your lunch in, a bucket to bail out water, and did I mention water guns? These 7 rafts had bucket fights between each other the entire time we were out there. Its ok if you're wetting your friends, but when errant water hits unintended targets, that's when things go wrong. I lost count of the amount of times I wanted to jump out of my raft, flip over opposing rafts, and crocodile death roll each person. It seemed like every time we hit good rapids, we had to pull over every 10 minutes to wait for those same 7 rafts. Midway through the trip, the head guide had to threaten to call the ranger on the 7 rafts for jumping into other rafts to steal buckets and swimming in the rapids. The rest of the trip continued with the same behavior (even after threat). The designated lunch area was terrible - wet sand and no rocks to sit on. Eating a sandwich in one hand, chips in another, drink on the floor, and trying not to drop anything. The guides were helpful and the river was decent, but you can't really navigate with 30 rafts in the river (especially when 7 are having water fights for the entire 6 hours). Be sure to bring a change of clothes because you will get soaked (water fights or not). read more

I brought my sons who are 12 and 11 and they were very nervous as they have never been whitewater rafting before. The staff made an extra effort to make them feel safe throughout the entire day and they ended up having a great time! From the minute we arrived at camp to when we left, the staff was amazing and they should be commended for their efforts. Our girl scout troop came to the scout camp O ree weekend. The staff was great and the rafting was great. The craft beer and cider stand was awesome! Our only negative thing to say is that the boy troops peed all over the toilets and it was hard for our girls to use them. We suggested to several staff members that a, girls only sign, be placed on one side and a boys on the other that way the girls has clean toilets. We had heard that the staff told the manager and that while we were rafting they came and cleaned the toilets. When we came back they were slightly cleaner but they still had some pee on them and they did not put up any signs. Other than that that we had a great time. read more

Given that this is the closest whitewater rafting place, it's ok. I organized a group of 12 people in June. They say Class 2 and 3, but it wasn't that exciting. It was more fun when we dumped water into our friend's raft and tried to sink them. Don't blink during the rapids!! It's cool that you get discounts as a big group and they give you cards for free paintballing at skirmish or discount off your next whitewater rafting trip. At the end of the day, my group enjoyed it, but we want something more exciting next time!!! read more

There are a lot of companies like this in and near Pocono, PA, but so far, this is the only one with individual shower stalls, with running hot water! This is a huge plus for me, because I prefer not to smell like the river on my way home. The down side is, this company is not very well organized, so there's a lot of waiting periods. And no matter when you get off the bus after you trip, just run towards the shower! Otherwise, expect to wait online for a shower stall. read more

Our guides were Tanya, Joey, Aaron and Jalsey. They were fantastic!! Our group consisted of 7 adults and 1 child and we all So first of all, I booked a reservation at a different place (but actually meant for it to be at this spot) so shame on me. They couldn't find the reservation but patiently helped me figure out my mistake. Even though it was Dam Release weekend, they made accommodations for us to join the family-style trip which was leaving within 15 min of our arrival. They knew we were rushing to catch up with the group and gave us everything we needed to get out on the water. Well, while we were on line for our vests the buses left. They said they tried to find us but couldn't and I totally get that they couldn't hold everyone else up for us. Still, they offered to let us join a different trip - the Premiere one with Class 3 rapids. We agreed to go even though we're all city folk who had little to no experience rafting. WE HAD A BLAST!!! The guides were really friendly, chatty and helpful. While on the water we (just our raft) sang songs and pretended to be in Venice - singing Italian songs which we probably got the lyrics wrong but we had fun anyway. The guides were very cognizant of the people in the group and kept stopping just to make sure we were all accounted for. The memories we created that day will last us for quite some time. My first time rafting! I had a great time and the staff were friendly. They explained everything, but I was in the back of the bus so I couldn't catch everything they were saying. They did a good job at freaking me out. From their explicit consent forms about death and having two people check my life jacket. For a second I was concerned that they didnt give us a helmet. But once I was on the river, I realized it wasn't that serious. We rafted in the rain. The rain was alot colder then the river. They had shower stalls which was great. Warm water was a plus I wasn't expecting. Some of their bathrooms were disgusting. My boyfriend almost threw up. LOL We found the clean one's once we got back from the river. Imagin holding it in for 6 hours (not fun). The wait time from arrival time to bus departure was unbelievable. They made it seem like if we werent there by 9:50am they would leave us. The bus didnt pick us up till a little after 11AM. The rapids were ok. Some alot better than others. I will admit some of them were about to throw me off if it weren't for my boyfriend grabbing my leg. My suggestion to you: It will be more fun if you go with your own group of people (5-7). We went on our own so we shared a raft. It wasn't bad because they were cool and fun, but I would say don't take the chance and come in a group. Not everyone is as lucky as we were. Food: We bought our lunch there to bring with us on the river so of course we had to buy cold lunch. Not good. I ate it because rafting gets you hungry. So, I suggest you bring your own cold lunch. Would I try it again? Um for white water rafting YEA. Despite the nasty food and bathrooms, the rafting was fun and guides were great. If you are looking for a more challenging rapids, they said you can try the hudson river. They also suggested to call before hand and ask for the water level of the river. 4ft is good according to the guides. I wouldn't know since this was my first time rafting. read more

I've been rafting for the past 5 years and I went on Saturday, 8/3 with friends and family. The river guides are normally very friendly and helpful except this time. The woman leading our group (her name is either Janet/Jeanette/Jessie) was extremely rude, had a terrible attitude and hypocritical. She yelled at us even though we were following her directions. (I think we were better off listening to the other guides.) This trip still gets a three star because we enjoyed the rest of our trip and our other guides were fantastic especially Jamie! Make sure you're wearing water shoes and bring water guns to defend your raft because you will get attacked with water buckets. Don't forget sunscreen even on a cloudy day because we came back sunburnt. read more

Guides were very well organized, keeping the group together, paddling from raft to raft offering advice or insight about upcoming rapids. I have been whitewater rafting a few times and this was not the best experience of them all. Like others said, there was not a lot of organization at the adventure center. It was kind of confusing trying to figure out where to go and what you were allowed to bring. The trip itself was fine and the guides were nice. However, the people on the trip with us in the other boats were complete tools. Really? You can spend 4 hours throwing buckets of water at each other? It doesn't get old...at any point? And you are grown adults?! And you need to keep throwing buckets of water at my boat when we have not engaged in this ridiculous behavior? Really? Overall this trip was okay...I don't think I would have ever picked to go to this place if I hadn't won the trip at a charity event. Even the website was really confusing to navigate. I have to say their guides are extremely well trained and patient to handle inexperienced groups. Ally Ryan at one point personally got into our raft and safely guided us to a point along the river so we can get out. We had to end our trip early but no fault of the company our own personal raft group was having great difficulty with the trip. Ally Ryan was funny and tried to keep our spirits up. Melissa helped rescue my son after he fell in and kept him safe and calm until we were able to get to him. Ally stayed with us at first but then Jordan stayed with us until a personal van came to pick us up and bring us back to base camp. Rebecca drove us back and kept the spirits of the passengers up even though many of us were frustrated. Anxious, or injured. Nothing was Whitewater Challengers fault but my group was not ready for this trip. Brian also tried to help us on the trip but my many in my group was not listening to his very helpful and explicit instructions. I give this place a million stars and will go back but with myself, my son, and others who are more experienced rafters. read more

We visited Mid-September. We had originally booked our trip during Hurricane Irene, BUT we had to postpone. I was a little bummed out because they said they would charge us a re-scheduling fee of $10 per person even during the Hurricane. But in the end I think they dropped it. Which is good! Thankfully the weather was dry, sunny and cool. No rain. We did camping on Saturday night and white water rafting on Sunday morning. We are city-folk and are barely in touch with nature, so this was EASY for us. It's not REAL camping, but makes you feel like it is. They set up the tents for you next to picnic tables, and give you a metal fire ring. We brought our BBQ grill, chairs, and sleeping bags. You can buy firewood from the store! They close early though, so we had a hard time getting wood after we ran out of our 2 buckets! 2 buckets lasted about 3 hours, SO make sure you buy at least 4 buckets for a night campfire for 10 people. The bathrooms are about 2 minutes away walking. The only thing I did not like was that we were near 2 other camping families, so it felt like we were camping in the park instead of the woods. And there was 1 lamp post near the bathrooms that illuminated a good portion of the site, so it felt like the park more than the woods. No worries of wildlife, we left food outside through the night and no bears showed up! The next morning we needed to check-in at 9:30AM for white water rafting. The check-in center was packed. Wetsuits were recommended because it was chilly. Each rental cost a total of $17. I didn't get one, too expensive and they looked unsanitary. But a lot of people got them. Once your group is ready, they put you on a cheese bus and take you about 15 mins away to the river. During the ride, the guides give you a safety explanation. 6 per raft. My group had never paddled or rowed, so we were lost at first. but 2 guides hopped on board and taught us how to paddle, rutter etc, which was really nice. Some parts were really calm, other parts were fast. There are some big rocks which was the scariest part to me. Just so you know, its a group of like 10 to 15 rafts with 4 to 7 people in each raft with 3 to 4 guides for everyone. So I felt pretty safe. I had so much fun, a little overwhelmed because it was my first time, but I am definitely going back in the Spring! read more

Bottom line info (read further for more info) - nice guides - no really scary rapids in the class 4 or 5 so good for beginners or weaklings like me - showers on site to wash away the river - buckets for splash fights - doing the whole thing all over again in October - should be ok for kids that aren't very little. good for groups who can get their own raft or couples who can deal with sitting and cooperating with strangers (minimum 4 to a boat) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Had a blast! Cannot remember the last time i've seen country so beautiful Went this past weekend which was a dam release weekend. I have been rafting once before (forever ago) and i remember that trip way back when did have class 4 and i think at least one class 5 rapid in it, so this river was not as huge water and scary as i expected. We didn't see anything bigger than a class 3. A previous reviewer said the river was 'meh' and i guess i could see that if you're used to the big stuff but there were enough rocks, waves and pools to suit me and my hubby who had never done this before. Besides, you can't blame the company for nature so the peeps who rate them low for the river alone need to chill Yes, they do have buckets for waterfights. Yes there are stretches where all you can do is ride along the water without needing to paddle and all there is to do is water fight or gaze at the beautiful scenery. So do both! Why go on a river rafting event if you don't want to get wet? (seems counter-intuitive to me) If you truly don't want to water fight, then say something or use the peace sign that is the river sign language for 'dont throw water at me, please' The guides were great. i think we had 4 or 5 guides in kayaks around our group of maybe 15-20 boats. they would station up by rocks or 'bad' parts and point you in the right direction. they seemed to me to be pretty patient, even with this one group who spent the whole trip drinking, and generally breaking all of the rules they told us on the bus. by the end the guides were pretty fed up with that group, but so were the rest of us, so if they got a scolding then they deserved it (i do not know if they did, in fact, get a scolding) Maybe it was where we started our leg of the trip, but the bus ride to drop in was pretty short. maybe 10 min. just long enough to get the safety brief and rules of the river. the trip back was about 40 minutes, and by then you are pretty damned tired and the bus ride can be... just... not welcome... i wanna go to sleep... zzzz.... Again, not the companies fault you're so drained from so much fun. We didn't have any problems checking in, though i think our trip did leave a little late (we had planned on the entire day, and had left our watches in the car, so no one was watching the time). We're coming back for the dam release in autumn to see all those trees with their color on. read more

Scheduled a 10:05 trip. We ended up waiting an hour because ONE group was late. The start was disorganized. We had to keep prompting them when we were getting life jackets and going on the buses. The rafting group then took a *40 MINUTE* bus ride to the river. On the bus ride our guide told us we would stop halfway for lunch. She clearly had 0 idea what time it was. We didn't end up eating lunch until 1:30pm. The guides encouraged people to splash each other including providing buckets for water to be dumped on one another. Water fights resulted. My boat was full of wet, grouchy people. It was too cold for water splashing. Went "whitewater rafting". It was more like a giant inflatable lazy river that had an occasional wavy patch of water. Lots of rowing. 3 hours. I was exhausted, wet, bored, and annoyed by the time we reached the step off point. We then took a *50 MINUTE* ride back to the site in our WET clothes. And the guide Kara really needs a shirt that doesn't have holes. I must have counted 5 giant tears in her shirt. Shirts are $1 at thrift stores. read more

We had a fantastic time with Whitewater Challengers today. Our guides were Mike, Wheezy, and John. We did the family rafting as a beginner trip for myself as my husband has been rafting before. John spent a lot of time chatting with us and having a good time. All of the guides were great with handling customers who were struggling or not following directions. There were 4 or 5 areas of gentle rapids, calm areas in between, and a few places to swim. It was cool today and the wetsuits were completely worth the rental fee. The provided lunch was fine; I didn't expect much and couldn't eat it anyway due to allergies. You can bring your own food though. We're planning to sign up for the next level up in a few weeks. The rafting is fun. The guides are wonderful, fun and helpful. That said this place is extremely poorly run. Basically a disorganized mess. Our group reservation was messed up from beginning to end and no staff on-site could even help us referring us to call the reservation center. My family does a lot of camping in the Northeast and this is by far the most disgusting, run down and poorest I've ever been to. There are a total of 6 flushing toilets to accommodate literally the entire campground plus the thousands of day trippers bused in on a daily basis. The other option is a row of porta potty that are extremely foul smelling. Our group will be looking at other rafting companies for future trips... read more

I chose water rafting as our company trip and it was the best decision! As a result of high waters from excessive rain, our 3 Day Adventure trip (biking, hiking, and rafting) was cancelled and swapped for rafting only. Then, on our way to PA (we're from NYC), it started to thunderstorm. The trip seemed to be going south. Out of nowhere the sun began to shine and all of the tour guides agreed that it was one of the best days for rafting we would ever get to experience... AND IT WAS! Jennifer was AMAZING! She had great energy, a total thrill seeker which totally matched our personalities, and provided us with tons of fun facts. I personally think our group had the best guide ;) I don't want to spoil the fun for those of you who will embark on this experience. Just know Whitewater Challengers will not disappoint! read more

I was extremely surprised at some of the negative reviews. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we pulled onto the property to the moment we left EVERYONE was kind and so nice. We first parked in employee parking and they kindly pointed us in the right direction. There are a few things to accomplish before you get on the bus but everyone was very helpful. Once on the river our guides were very knowledgeable and fun! Thanks to Muru, Frank, and John for such an amazing experience. This was my first time and has me wanting more. The rapids were nothing to crazy but gave the riders a challenge with steering and using our paddling skills. We are definitely going back! read more

We just took a family trip down the Black River and had a wonderful time! The river is beautiful and the rapids are awesome! Our guide Cody (every raft gets a guide) was friendly and got us past Panic Rock expertly! There are stops for swimming if you want, and jumping off a low cliff. We did the rafting at Black River with Cody as our guide. The whole experience was wonderful and Cody and the whole team made sure that we were comfortable the entire trip. The rafts were in good condition and we spent close to 3 hours on the river. The best part was where they let us cliff jump and swim in the river at 2 spots. We were escorted back in a bus back to the office where they arranged a beautiful BBQ spread for lunch. Cody was kind enough to wait till everyone in his group had finished eating and escorted us back to the office. A big shout out to the whole team for an amazing experience. Whitewater Challengers is a thrilling adventure for family and friends. We arrived on a busy July day and the center was very well organized from the start. It was easy to check in and get everything we needed ready. The staff was incredibly thoughtful. The river guides talked to each group about their abilities/comfort level and grouped everyone accordingly. For the "premier whitewater rafting tickets" on the Lehigh River you are in your raft with a group (4-8 people), there are four guides in kayaks helping navigate the river. Some sections are quick with fast moving rapids! This portion was a mix of joy and occasionally getting stuck or helping a man/woman overboard. The staff was right with us the whole time enjoying the ride and helping groups as needed. In the slower sections, we enjoyed peaceful rest and a glorious view of the river and surrounding mountains. The group stops for lunch along the way, which you can pack or purchase at the center before departure. Don't forget to bring water bottles especially on a hot summer day! At the end of the day (about 4 hours on the river, 5 hours total) we were equal parts tired and happy. I've rafted with WWC twice on the Lehigh and once on the Hudson. On all three trips our guides have been exceptional! Most recently Weezie and Jordan were our guides and showed us a great time! I did the family style whitewater rafting with guides Ricky and Cara. They made the whole experience that more fun and they were very helpful and very friendly. The family style rafting has level 1 and 2 rapids (more 1 than 2) and has several areas were you can get out of the raft and swim in the river. A family I was with had a four year old so it's perfectly safe and fun for young children. Highly recommend to this place for whitewater rafting. read more

Went white water rafting for the first time yesterday on the Hudson River Gorge and had an AMAZING time. Corey was our guide and he was knowledgeable, super experienced, and tons of fun. My entire group was thoroughly dissatisfied with our experience. We had to wait half an hour for a bus to come. That followed with a 45 minute bus ride to the actual river. Upon arrival we had to wait for them to fill all of the rafts with air. We were also promised a dam release, which never happened. There service is unreliable, and generally disappointing.
