(For context, this was part of one of their many weekend tournaments they do all spring/summer/fall versus playing under normal conditions.)
I had never played Whitetail prior. Why? Idk. Somewhat because they are still back in the 90's with needing to call to make a tee-time versus what everybody else on planet earth does, but that's another story.
Tournament format:
Arrive maybe 30-40 minutes prior to the 8:30 start and get checked in. Collect whatever swag they offer, sign up for whatever raffles they offer and grab whatever snacks/drinks/freebies they offer.
After finding your cart, you listen to the rules/format/etc. and then you start at whatever hole is listed on your cart which in our case was 13.
Admittedly, pacing for this is glacial. It's best ball and no one is in a hurry and some are probably not sober enough to be driving anything with a motor. You're talking about five hours for a round. Yeesh.
The course conditions are so-so. Some tee boxes are in bad shape.
Some greens are better than others and some fairways are brown patched and burned out in places.
Scoring is done by scanning a QR code and someone keeping track on their phone. Other gimmicks like closest to the pin, straightest drive or longest drive are also going on.
You got some people out there full of themselves and taking it way too seriously and then you have the rest that are just hackin'/wackin' and having a good time - not taking it that seriously.
The food afterwards is good enough. Nothing special but they also don't really have enough seating for people either.
I'm glad to have taken part and since I wasn't paying it was double enjoyable. But, at the end of the day, the course while nice, isn't in that great of shape and considering what they would normally charge, I'm not in a huge hurry to pay for it myself.
