Although the original guns have long since been removed, another one was found across the ocean. The same type of massive gun was found at Fort Wint, retired former US base located just outside of Manila, Philippines. It was brought to Battery Worth in 1963. While the…read morevarious private agencies around town seem to have long lines and semi-crabby service, the Auditor's Office is rarely busy, the staff are more-than-helpful, and it's easy to get in and out in a matter of minutes. On my most recent visit, it was the day before Thanksgiving so they were a little busier than on my previous visits. But after a relatively short wait, I soon had my car tabs in hand. I also had a question about a new fee I was being charged this year (grumble grumble), and the employee actually called Olympia for me to verify that the fee was valid! It was absolutely amazing to me, as I had expected to be given a form to fill out and never hear back from anyone. A+ service there! The Auditor's Office is also the place to come for all sorts of other things. Getting married? They had a very 90s-esque little station to sign up for your marriage license. Want to see some cool, vintage Skagit County pics and vintage items? They have those on display, too. What is probably the coolest thing, though, is the gorgeous mid-century design of this space. Oh, and hot tip: there's a small parking lot off of 3rd street, which you can use for free while conducting official County business.

For those who can access the base, there is a small Navy Exchange and barber shop for your essentials. There is a robust MWR office and marina here. You can rent recreational equipment and get discount tickets. There is a pretty impressive single sailor program to keep you entertained and occupied in your spare time. All in all, a nice smaller surface ship base.

The all brick buildings with green roofs is what gives me that impression. Most bases have random looking buildings scattered throughout the base. They appear to have ample parking which considering this is a carrier base is unusual. The base admin buildings are easy to find and they have a decent amount of direction signs to help you find sites. What is lacking is with the Exchange. It was on the puny side and had minimal items for sale. I was surprised for the amount of people that can be at the base they the NEX would be so small. The food court is sad and despite being here on numerous occasions I always eat out in town.

So asked the clerk if we have to wait in line once we have the missing doc, oh no we dont do that, just take a number. I call horse pucky on this place. Standing on the Deception Pass Bridge is one of those moments where you realize photos just can't…read morecapture how incredible a place really is. The bridge connects Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island inside Deception Pass State Park, and the views are honestly breathtaking in every direction. The water below is this deep turquoise color, and when the tide is moving you can see the currents swirling through the pass. It's a little surreal looking down from the bridge -- you're about 180 feet above the water, and the cliffs, forest, and islands around you make it feel like something out of a movie. One thing I didn't realize until visiting is that it's actually two bridges, with a small island in between called Pass Island. You can walk across both bridges, and there are sidewalks on each side so you can stop and take in the views. It's definitely worth slowing down and just enjoying the moment. If you want to walk the bridge, most people park either at the small lot on the Whidbey Island side right before the bridge, or at pullouts and parking areas on the Fidalgo Island side. There are also bigger parking areas inside the park like Bowman Bay or West Beach if you want to explore trails or viewpoints nearby. Driving across the bridge itself is free, but if you park in the state park lots you'll need a Washington Discover Pass (about $10 for the day). If you can, try to go earlier in the morning or near sunset. The light hitting the water and cliffs makes the whole place feel even more magical. This is one of those places in Washington that really sticks with you. Whether you're walking the bridge, stopping for photos, or just watching the water rush through the pass below, it's absolutely worth the visit.

I have driven over this bridge about half a dozen times. I came here almost 10 years ago with…read morefriends and we actually spent the day hiking around the area and taking photos under the bridge. Coming back this time brought a lot of those memories back, especially because I've lost one of those friends since then. This is definitely a great spot to enjoy nature and spend time with the people you love. The surrounding area is gorgeous. There are dramatic cliffs and water, and trees as far as the eye can see. This was my first time parking at the edge of the bridge and my husband was brave enough to walk out onto the bridge itself. I'm glad that he did because the views are incredible. I was too scared to go out. There's a pedestrian walkway, but you're right next to constant and pretty fast vehicle traffic on a narrow bridge . Between that and it being so high above the water, I just felt that nervous sensation in my tummy and decided against it. If you're comfortable with the heights, I would definitely walk out there because you get really great views. I'm totally jealous of my husband's pictures. Definitely take the safety aspect seriously though. There is lots of traffic and it is constant. The roads are busy and getting in and out of the parking area felt pretty treacherous. I feel like we even saw a sign at one point saying how dangerous the area was. Even though it was nostalgic and beautiful and emotional being there, I gotta lower the rating a bit for the traffic and parking because made it feel a little unsafe but I would still recommend that anyone who hasn't been here check it out for themselves.
