This morning I had to call Social Security ofice in Mount Vernon, Washington. I expected a long…read morewait, I was wrong. A very nice lady answered the phone. We started our conversation when the phone hung up, I called back and she answered again. We started again and my phone hung up again. I called back and she answered again, and we actually were able to finish my call. Her name is Maggie, she was very kind and very helpful and within 5 minutes she helped me accomplish my task. She has a great personality, very patience and she knows what she's doing! If you have to call Mount Vernon Social Security, I hope Maggie answers your call...

Being as this is my "home" Post Office, I'm going to give them an extra star just to show some…read morelocal love. But as far as Post Offices go, this one is just like any other you've visited in the past four decades: outdated, inefficient, long lines, etc. etc. etc. On a recent visit, I was there for over an hour and had to stand in line TWICE to get something mailed. Honestly, it was ridiculous. I had tried to use the self-service machine in the lobby which, while still utilizing technology from the 1980s, is still usually a more efficient way to send a package. When the machine malfunctioned, I stood in a long line to try to send it at the counter; but instead the ONE person working there informed me she would send a manager out to fix it since my package wasn't pre-addressed. (I had been planning to print out the address on the label at the machine....argggghhhh.) I waited about 10 minutes for the manager to come fix the machine. When he finally arrived (looking annoyed), he announced he couldn't fix it. So I had to GET BACK IN LINE for another 20 minutes (and bum a pen off of another patron) to finally mail my package. Really, this whole thing should have taken no more than 10 minutes. Anyway, the USPS is what it is. My package arrived safely and I guess that's all that really matters. But seriously, if this isn't an example of an inefficient business model I don't know what is!

A long time ago, my son tried to steal something from a store we went to. He was younger, but…read morestill. I wanted to let him know it's not ok. I took him to the sheriff's office, told them what happened and asked them to play along. As soon as I brought my son in, an officer came in and asked him if his name was so and so...my son just shook his head yes and started crying. Obviously at this point I felt bad for him. The officer explained to him what could've happened to him, and why it's bad to steal. I was very impressed with how they played along with no judgement at all to help a mom out.

Everybody expects to have minor…read moreheadaches and everything when they go into this office or any kind of department of licensing or motor vehicles office anywhere but in some ways, this one I felt was pretty bad. firstly location. Well, the location itself isn't bad. It's also not great. The entrance is tucked away in an area where if you don't really know where you're going you're probably not going to be able to find it. There's also the fact that the location doesn't have anything like a spot where if you have a bicycle, you can tie up to or something. Another thing is the management of this office seems to be an extremely rude individual. Constantly belittling their staff and regularly being an absolute nuisance, right in front of the individuals who have come in and are waiting. some of the staff aren't much better. The individual that I got was an older woman who barely even looked at me. Let alone spoke directly to me. She kept speaking towards her computer screen, and I could barely hear her. small part to the little safety window thing in front of her. now, maybe I just caught her on an off day but still there was no personality in it and her interactions were very cold and almost indifferent. I mean, I'm not saying need to smile or all that very least they need to be polite and honestly she wasn't. honestly, if there was a better location, I would probably find another place but unfortunately for me this is the closest location that I can find. Also, if you utilize a service like Uber or Lyft, you're probably going to have a little bit of difficulty because there are no pickup spots anywhere near the location. I literally had to cross over towards a bar or something to actually wait for my ride to pick me up.
