It otherwise had a very pleasant flavour profile. They also made a decent gin and tonic. I tried the Calamari, a Hawaiian and Supreme pizza, jalapeno cheddar fries and potato skins. The Calamari was good, crispy on the outside, and only slightly chewy on the inside, though the tzatziki that came with it was a bit too plain. It could've been more acidic, and had more cucumber, but otherwise it was a nice effort, considering how Greek yogurt is hard to come by in Hong Kong. I the Hawaiian and Supreme pizza are okay. The Supreme pizza had a strange bitterness to the crust, but the Hawaiian pizza was quite good, soft crust, flavourful toppings and stringy cheese. The jalapeno cheddar fries were crunchy, but the use of those individually vacuum packaged "cheddar" that they sell on at grocery stores and try to pass off as "cheese" really let the dish down. I mean sure, it's not a particularly expensive item, but people like their cheddar fries a bit gooey, not slimy. The potato skins were good, with just enough toppings to match the potatoes. They also used proper cheese cheddar cheese (strangely enough), so I was pleasantly surprised by it. I like how this location is much more spacious than their other Wan Chai locations, while still maintaining the same mid-range prices on drinks. Having brewed in-house craft beers is a huge plus for this place, but it seems that the brews just need to be polished a bit more before they can be truly great.

Subsequently, when they do that, they suck the moisture out of the chip. The chips were limp, thin and a bit dry. If they fix the quality of the chip, these would be spectacular, they would survive being in the oven part better. A great nacho chip needs to be a touch salty and bit heartier. We will go back and try maybe the burritos and/or enchiladas. There was someone at the table next to ours that ordered a salad with shrimp on top and it looked really good. We live on the other side of Hong Kong, so this will not be a regular stop for us. But if you were seeking out Mexican food, this was as authentic as I have seen yet since moving here.

However, given you always get a table, its near to the office and you get a full three course meal with a drink- you can't really complain. We went to it for drinks- Joe Bananas is pretty much an institution in the Wanchai area along with Delaneys , Meis Amis, Dusk till Dawn and a number of others. Its an expat orientated environment though locals could also thoroughly enjoy themselves over a few drinks and with the usual gaggle of girls standing just a bit too close to you for comfort. The band and everything else completes the Wanchai experience and of course if you are really keen they also have t-shirts available. Why would I rate it 5 star? The meals a-la-carte will set you back about HKD150, but the portions are generous. For the best value, come here for lunch, where a main meal with soup or salad starter, will set you back around HKD70. Again, it's not the best you will have, but for a tasty quick bite, it is perfectly good. Be warned, with such a good value meal deal, the HK office workers come here in their droves, so you should book for lunch. Try asking for a lager shandy, and the spotty 12 year old kid will look at you blankly as though you have just ask for the secret to The Masons. Try and get the nice Filipino manageress to serve you. In addition to great music and drinks at night, they serve really good food. I remember trying some pasta dishes years ago, and they were good, but as an American I was somewhat shocked to say they have one of the best burgers I have ever had anywhere. Really! I at them several times, and each time, the burger arrived perfectly cooked to order, juicy with a very beefy flavor. The fries were very good too. I may get a chance to go back to HK again this year. If I do, I will try to visit again.

I just wanted white wine, which I had to ask for. They also make little juices in plastic light bulbs that the toddler I was with loved. It was a nice spot to unwind from a long day of walking around before we crashed the MTR.
