Spicy Fingers is a dirty bar, and I mean this in the best possible way. I don't mean that it is unclean, or a less than salubrious place (as many of the the Wan Chai bars are). What I mean is; it is the sort of place that you go to get crammed in, get smashed up, and get some rocking good fun.
At the end of the day, it is a bar. It does what bars do. It serves a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, and has a good menu of Western and Asian food. The food is very passable, not the best in HK, but good enough to fill your boots for more dancing.
What this bar does really well, is live music. They just seem to have the knack of picking really good, professional bands (mainly the Filipinos), who get the place jumping every night. Unlike The Wanch which often features new bands and original music, the bands in Spicy Fingers stick to the classic pub band tunes. You know, the sort of thing that you can either dance or sing along to.
The bar is frequented by the white collar brigade, the ex-pat banker types on an end of the week bender, who are there to get drunk and dance the week off, well at least an approximation in their work shirts and pinstripes. I certainly wouldn't go there if you are lone Asian female, as it can be quite intimidating, but it's all harmless fun though. Just boys and girls having a good time.
Couple of points of admin; the bar also has an outside seating area at the front, which has tables and stools. It's an official outside area (not just a patch of the pavement), so you can go out and have a smoke, or enjoy your drink out of the noise. They also don't seem to have a closing time, or at least it seems to be beyond 3am, which is about as late as I've ever stayed there! read more
