Called in for a Sunday Lunch, so haven't sampled the full menu (yet) but I was very happy.
Sunday lunch was a very reasonable £7.95 for one course, £10.90 for two and £13.85 for three courses with a choice of beef, lamb or chicken with three types of vegetables new and roast potatoes, two Yorshire Puddings and some tasty "Real Gravy". It was all well cooked and tasted very good.
We didn't have a starter and shared some cheese & bicuits which was a good selection of biscuits and 5 cheeses (at a guess stilton, cheddar, red leicester, lancashire and a cheddar-type cheese with Irish Porter in it).
I haven't tried the normal lunch or dinner menus, or sat in the restaurant, but I have no reason to presume they won't be excellent too.
Main meals int the "lounge" (bar area) are typically £8-10 with steaks costing up to £17. The restaurant area has a slightly different menu and prices are a couple of pounds dearer.
There is a good amount of parking at the rear of the pub including an overflow car park in a (fortunately not muddy) field and a nice enclosed beer garden.
The food is very good, and well priced, the staff are friendly, so I recommend you go there. A word of warning - the place gets very busy so I'd strongly advise booking a table.
UPDATE
***
After a very successful Sunday lunch in the past we decided to call in for an evening meal, and the place again didn't disappoint.
The menu has been changed recently. Starters range from £4-6 and included 3 different soups, prawn cocktail, homemade chicken liver pate and home-made crispy battered mushrooms with a choice of dip. We had our 'wine' in pints, but the wine list looked OK with bottles costing £11-27.
Most of the mains range from £8-15 with the steaks a little dearer. The range is good with a good range of dishes including lots of fresh fish dishes, scampi, smoked haddock and broccoli bake, some salads and many home-made dishes including pies, lasagne and ham.
I had a prawn cocktail which was large, tasty and came with an eight-inch long baguette style roll! I followed it with another retro dish of Tornados Rossini: fillet steak topped with chefs chicken liver pate, topped with red wine sauce which was served with chips and fresh seasonal vegetables for £19.
The food was excellent and good value. The only snag was that the portions are perhaps a little too generous: most people didn't have space for one of the excellent looking puddings.
Friendy, good service, excellent food and large portions: highly recommended, especially if you are hungry! read more
