The Old Red Lion is a nice village pub in the centre of the village which does food.
There restaurant area, but we dined in the bar area: both were very full. There is a blackboard, but a printed menu which contains just about everything. The menu had a good range of items including homemade soups, pies, chilli con carne, curry, fish and steaks. There was also a good range of sandwiches and sweets.
They seem to specialise in pies and a couple of us had the pheasant and bacon pie, another had the steak and ale pie: both very tasty and served with salad or vegetables and chips for £9.95. The final member of our group had homemade lasagne for £8.95 which was quite nice and fairly herby but not much tomato flavour, once again served with chips and salad.
A couple of people had puddings which cost £4.70 each: a rather nice bread & butter pudding which was tasty and not too sweet, and a creme brule which was good too.
Overall I'd rate it as good value and the food is quite nice, but not perhaps as good as you would have thought from the popularity.
Outside there is a narrow beer garden with a nice view in the summer, but very little parking so you will need to park on the street. read more
