We booked a late Sunday lunch and the service and the food was excellent. The best Sunday lunch in that area by miles...well done The Folly.

The Jabberwocky - A Jabberwocky Toastie

How can the makers of the very fine "Manwich" not have any reviews indeed? It's definitely time to…read morechange that... I first came across Barny and Flic's very fine van and it's offerings on my first trip to Digbeth Dining Club. Their beautiful green behemoth of a van offers Toasties... Nothing more, nothing less. Now, that might sound a little boring; but read on my dear friends! Let's start with the Manwich... As taken from their website: "The only toastie whose consumption deems you to be worthy of nothing less that the eternal reverence of your peers. A triple-decker leviathan of bacon, pastrami, ham, chorizo, cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack, onions, hot sauce and, of course, a 28 day aged 4oz Warwickshire steak." Sounds good right? It IS. You WON'T be hungry after this. They have less mega offerings and deal with locally sourced meats, cheeses and (of course) veggie offerings. If you aren't content with just savoury; they have also offered sweet toasties when I have visited. Think thick slabs of bread with chocolate spread, marshmellows, peanut butter.... You get the idea. Don't worry, my mouth is watering too (this is a really bad review to write when you're on a diet). The guys who run the van are great! On one visit to see the Jabberwocky, we had a natter about why they got started... Basically, to escape the daily grind the guys decided to be their own bosses and bought the truck, designed their menu and now wing their way around Leamington Spa and Birmingham dealing out delicious toasties to the hungry crowds at streetfood events and markets. As a side note, I believe you can also hire them to come and cater for your event... I don't think you would have any disappointed guests with these guys doing the food! A Manwich (from memory) was about £7/£8 - but was a beast of a meal. Other offerings start from around £6 and the dessert offerings are even less. If you haven't tried these guys before, go and say hi to Barny and Flic! You might just fall in love with this foodstuff of kings all over again...

Run by a couple who are focused on providing a delicious, locally sourced toastie assault on the taste buds. Well known for their triple deckers like The Manwich and Old McDonald which are packed with combinations of meats and cheese that you can only dream of. They've even put a whole Christmas dinner in a toastie! It doesn't stop there though there's also pudding! Think about Millionaires shortbread , Rocky Road or even good old banoffee. They've all been given the toastie treatment. So next time you spot the Jabberwocky van, head over and order the biggest toastie you can muster. You will not be disappointed! In fact you'll be hooked!

But no, while patrons of Heavenly Desserts may be dressed to the nines, this dessert bar necessitates elastic trousers more than a "go out shirt". Heavenly Desserts was one of the originators of the type of dessert bar that has popped up all over Birmingham in recent years. Starting out in a smaller shop front, they now take up a very large location in Sparkbrook that can seat many. Despite this, the place is packed with queues on the weekend. The wait is managed very professionally by an army of staff members. Once you make it to your seat, a literal bible of sweet goodies awaits. The shop is most known for their outrageous waffles and cookie dough, but it's entirely possible to pop in for some gelato and a coffee. This is exactly what I did while visiting with friends recently, as the cookie dough was tempting but I wanted something smaller. The gelato can be purchased on its own, but it's also a key ingredient in their other dessert dishes. I was hoping for the best based on reviews, but my cookies and creme/chocolate combo was average at best. Given the amount of competition in Brum, the gelato was not up to par with a generic flavour present. The Americano I ordered as my drink was substantial in size, but lacked finesse in its pull, with a bitter, acidic quality. The overall service here is spot on, with our waiter checking on us throughout our visit. Paying was a hassle though, as we had to walk to the back end of the shop and pay at a card kiosk. Speaking of, the prices here are at the upper limit of what you can realistically charge, especially since it's not in city centre. Heavenly Desserts is a nice dessert shop for the most part, but if you are looking for high quality ingredients or a low-mid price point, south Brum has many more options for you.

I'm going to mirror Kristin's review here and say the same thing…read more.. I read online how this was the best dessert place in Coventry! But when I went... I didn't experience that at all. There was 1 young lad on staff and 1 older guy outside making some pretty interesting and impressive swirly dessert things out of some sort of liquid that he was squeezing into a vat of oil, I have to say that I was impressed! He seemed to be a PRO at making these desserts that looked similar to a pretzel but orange. I didn't try one but it looked great anyway - I;m just not a fan of fried things... The pictures online didn't mirror the inside at all. There wasn't a huge 'cake fridge' with all manner of cakes and desserts, I counted about 5 cakes that all looked pretty ordinary (sorry!) They did have a good selection of ice cream, but it didn't look like it was a popular item as you can tell when ice cream is fresh and a new tub swapped out every day, etc. Maybe I'm just being a bit too critical? Maybe I was supposed to sit down and order from the menu or something and they make it all from fresh? I don't know... I hope that's how it works anyway. I think going in with high expectations and then seeing, well... not a lot on display, that ruined the experience for me, so even if they brought out the best of the best cake in the World... It still would't have turned me around because my first impression was shattered. The ice cream tasted fine though, not amazing, but better than average.

Presentation is excellent and main staff were quite helpful, also making suggestions. It is overall a quaint place with a diner setting, leather seating and generous portions great for one or two to share. There was also an outdoor seating area which was good for the current heat or an option of sitting indoors for a cooler atmosphere, many icecream flavours (similar to an Italian gelateria). Spread the word and go there yourself, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

The answer would be: it is so delicious and fresh that you do not have the time to take a picture before you eat all of it. I had Blood Orange Sorbet, which got the perfect balance between zesty and sweet and Lemon Yogurt, which was very creamy but still got the healthy feeling of a yogurt. Also, they have a lovely selection of toppings. Nicely presented, all looked very tasty. And, I saw they serve Monmouth coffee. I did not order one, but I know it would be great just by seeing the Monmouth name. Definitely will come back no matter how long the queue would be!!!
