The girls behind the bar were smiling as they served, now that is a one off wherever you go or drink. We noticed an Asian group walk in and, obviously, unaccustomed to The British ways asked where they could sit. They were guided by the young lady behind the bar and then she took their order and waited on them. Now that is a lovely touch. Fantastic choice of 'never heard of' ales with exotic and quirky names. The whole décor of the place oozed FUN. The TV above the mantleshelf with its picture framing. The odd chairs and tables. We loved it and can't wait to go back for more.

Without hesitation our guide immediately recommended the Old Thatch Tavern. First of all, it is centrally located and easy to find. Once there you're taking by the decor and homely feeling. The staff were amazing. I wasn't drinking hard liquor and they guided me through a variety of Apple ciders that were delightful. They made the entire experience 1000% better. Their advice and knowledge really made the stop one of the best drinking experiences we had in England. Little by little more members of our crew continues showing up and eventually we had a full blown part going. Again, it was a blast! I can't wait to go again, make a stop at the Old Thatch Tavern and relive some of the memories.

It was 10.25 on Wednesday evening, February 25th, but we were turned away by the young barman, as he said he had already called last orders and wasn't letting anybody else in. Now, my husband and I were very disappointed, as everywhere else in the town had been so welcoming and accommodating. We walked across the road and had a few drinks in another bar, as there are plenty of nice places to choose from, BUT, if I was the owner of this establishment, I would not be best pleased at young bar staff turning my customers away. That is a lot of revenue to lose over the year if this is happening every night, especially with the cost of living at its current high and the daily struggle that pubs face to stay profitable!! Maybe a bit of staff re-training wouldn't go amiss and a reminder of who pays the wages!!

The ambiance was exactly what you'd expect in a quiet inn in the countryside. Exposed beams and stone, a big hearth fireplace, clean tables, floors, bar area and restrooms. The service was attentive, but not overly so. I ordered quickly and the food was well timed. I had the fish and chips, which honestly had a bit too much batter for my taste, but the batter was so good, that didn't matter at all. The chips were perfect, and the peas were the perfect compliment. It is clear this is a local gathering spot. By the time I had finished, the bar area had filled with locals catching up and having a good time with each other. If you're touring the Cotswold's and in need of a perfect pub lunch, this place is it. Don't bother with trying to park or navigate the scaffolding of Chipping Norton. Head to the Chequers. It's well worth it.

It has that classic Oxford pub atmosphere that makes it worth visiting, especially if you're showing someone around the city or looking for a casual drink in a historic setting. There are outdoor tables, seating inside, and a smaller section in the back. During peak hours, it can get quite packed, so it is not always the easiest place to grab a table, but that also adds to the energy of the place. Overall, I would not necessarily come here expecting the best pub food in Oxford, but for the atmosphere, location, and quintessential Oxford experience, it is absolutely worth a stop.

It's a nice pub and establishment. When you enter there's a bar and some cozy indoor seating with natural light. Nothing fancy. There's also a wonderful outdoor patio, which is where we sat. There's two floors to it and most of the seating is covered. The service by workers were all friendly and nice. We ordered with them then paid at the bar. We shared Duck and Orange Pate. It was thick, tasty, and complex but well balanced. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich--the mixed leaves were tasty, the chicken crispy, and honestly it was a filling sandwich. I would say I'd like more in between the bread but it did fill me up. You've got plenty of pub options in Burford, but we quite enjoyed our time at The Angel. It's off Witney Street and a nice place to dine!

Burford is considered to be the gateway to the cot waltz. The cot walls has an old area that has changed for a little over the hundreds of years and has amazing architecture and houses and farms. It's surrounded by rolling Hills and Dells and little rivers running through it. Burford is considered the gateway to the cot walls because it showcases several styles of very old architecture. that's still an excellent condition. If you have questions about what to do while you're there go to the Tolsey house. But I have to say there is no question that when I got there And it was lunchtime that I selected the angel at Burford to eat the fine food that they serve there. The staff quality of the food everything was amazing. I will return time and time again.

There is a good selection of beer and ale on tap and a full wine list, with by the glass, carafe and bottle options. We noted that Sheep has a sister restaurant across the street (The Porch House) under the same ownership and during the time of our visit the menu was virtually identical so do your homework before choosing.

I don't try the food in this trip, but tried the Greene King IPA (the defacto US "Budweiser" sold beer in over 2500 pubs owned by them, but better than an US mass sold beer), and then a local Reggie's Turf beer. You can use the Greene King (GK) mobile app to order (QR code on each table), and there is an open bar area (with a low ceiling) to order some locals that are not in the GK app. Service is friendly and courteous! What I have experienced so far is that the WiFi is the same in any Greene King (GK) owned location :-)
