White Cottage is a place where you can get ice cream, concretes, and traditional diner food. It's great in a pinch, but it's really nothing to write home about. I would definitely go for the dessert rather than the food. Both the dessert and the diner prices are higher than your usual average place. The ice cream is adequate; the food is always greasy. Staff is pretty nice. They just reopened after a long hiatus, and it's also now closed for the season. They are usually open March through early October. read more

Hands down best ice cream shop in the metro east. The only place that even competes in my opinion is Tower Grove Creamery in St. Louis. For me, soft serve and custard just doesn't cut it (although they do offer those if that's your thing.) I absolutely love their homemade ice cream! The have some flavors regularly and some rotating. They also sell it by the quart to take home! My two favorites are the Oreo and Cappuccino, I only wish they had the cappuccino more often! And you're there for food, the burgers are superb! I really like this little place. I believe most people don't know about this place but if you do I'm sure that you have been there more than once. I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 only because I have only had 2 things there, Double cheeseburgers and ice cream and they were both great!! I like the burgers because it seems like a real person is actually patting they out not just frozen circles of meat and the ice cream is really good and tasty. I've never had an issue with customer service here. They can get busy, but they work hard. The soft-serve is nothing special, but there's nothing wrong with it either. The homemade hard ice cream is hit or miss. I find that a lot of the flavors have a noticeable maple syrup taste, which I don't like. But the dark chocolate is amazing. Usually we only get ice cream there, but the waffle fries are very good. I wish the portion was just a little bigger. read more

The White Cottage is where the heart is. The unlimited possibilities of concretes and sundaes are awesome! The homemade ice cream flavors are fresh and always delicious. The food is fresh and keeps you wanting more. When this place closes for the season it's very difficult because I will crave the burgers, French fries, philly, grilled chicken, and so much more. I'm heartbroken on this review. This place is very nostalgic for me. My grandpa told me stories how when he was sick with sore throat as kid he would come here for a malt. But their ice cream is terrible! I'm very sorry but it is. It tastes like it has been over whipped and frostbitten. Really great ice cream and Malts. It's one of our favorite places to go for an occasional treat. We love going there now especially to help support local business during all the corona current events. However the last time we were there made me rethink this. All the employees are wearing masks and gloves. The issue is all the employees are taking orders and handling the customer's payments while wearing the same gloves they are handling the food with. Not to mention using the same pen to write the orders that the customers use to sign credit receipts while wearing those same gloves. After we ordered and paid, they started to make our order, still in the same gloves. I asked them to please change their gloves first and they looked at me like "what". They of course obliged my request and changed their gloves, which I am glad for. But given the amount of struggle one girl had to putting the new gloves on made me even more concerned because how long was she wearing the last pair for her hands to be too sweaty to put new ones on. Also, you are supposed to wash your hands between glove changes and they did not. I think the employees need to be taught about cross contamination and to wash their hands more frequently. The lack of training on PPE, for most businesses, is alarming. read more

This has got to be the best ice cream in the world. I no longer live in Belleville, but as a little girl, would walk with my family to get an ice cream every weekend they were open. My brother learned to read by reading all the different flavors to me each time. I ordered Cherry Garden every time because it is THE BEST! If you have not had the pleasure of tasting this amazing ice cream, please go by and get a cone. If I could, I would have it sent to me here in Texas. I hope they never stop selling ice cream.
