As with many a pub in a small village, the menu is a bit all over the place, though I suppose I can't blame them for trying to please as many people as possible.
To start we shared some bread with oil and vinegar, and some pea and wasabi hummus. The bread was all very tasty, however I'm not convinced the hummus wasn't just spicy cold mushy peas. It wasn't awful but not something I'd want to eat again.
For my main I had the seabass with parma ham and angel hair pasta with a lemon and cream sauce. The fish was beautifully cooked. The pasta was also delicious though a very large portion - sounds an odd complaint but there was just so so so much of it! There was also a spicy salami (or similar cured meat) in the pasta which for me didn't quite make sense with the rest of the dish and again was in a huge quantity. I feel like without the meat, with a bit less pasta and maybe with some sort of green veg it would have been perfect. That sounds very nitpicky I know - overall it was a very impressive meal with a delicious piece of fish.
No desserts as we had cheese and cupcakes back at the cottage we were staying in nearby. My share of the bill came to roughly £25 excluding tip. I'd recommend it here if you're staying nearby! read more
