Well, it's perfectly placed in the centre of the station. There's plenty of seating. It serves food, including breakfast fairly cheaply. It's attached to an Upper Crust too and I really doubt they'd mind you taking your sandwich into the bar area to eat with your pint. Plus, the staff and the locals are really friendly and helpful. Plus, they have free WiFi through The Cloud. Plus, they have sockets where you could charge your phone or laptop and maybe even get some work done. So, thanks to this bar, when I missed my connection and found myself in Preston with a dying phone battery and almost no data the situation wasn't disastrous. I ordered a pint, plugged in my phone, called home to say I'd be late and then let it charge while I browsed the net. Heroes indeed. They certainly rescued me.

My first impression is that parking is a wee bit of a nightmare and it's a little out of town. That being said, having seen a sample of the other options in Preston - it seems to be worth a bit of a walk. 1) It was Busy! In this day and age (with pubs being on the decline), it was fantastic to see a place so vibey and buzzing. The bar area was busy, the restaurant was nearly full and people were sitting outside under the heaters. 2) Very reasonably priced! We stuck to the Conti Home-brew (at a very passable £2.60 a pint), but a vodka and coke was around £2.70 and it hosts and enviable selection of beers, wines and spirits. The Import lagers are more pricey, but that is to be expected as they're a specialist drink. 3) The crowd was lovely! There was a mix of people in the bar due to the gig, but nearly everyone was chatting to each other and having a joke. I didn't feel like an outsider at all and had a wonderful experience shooting the breeze with many of the locals. The pub itself was clean and well presented and the gig space was perfect for a crowd of around 200 people (with mixed seating and standing). The sound was dead good for the bands and the space really lent itself to hosting small to medium sized events. I didn't have any food, but it looked and smelled very nice indeed. If I had a local like this, I think it would be a bit of a staple venue. Good job Conti!

On a Thursday night its quiz night which is free to enter and always a good laugh and you can win £20. They also have live entertainment nights, karaoke night and a lock in at new year. This is one of my favourite pubs to go to in Ashton never had any trouble there, all the staff are nice and the punters are usually regulars that know one another. Another good thing to know is that it is a wifi spot so you can access the internet free with your wireless device while having a quiet drink.

The only point to update is that the pub increasingly seems to be closing early or not opening at all on week nights. We always visiting The Market Tavern if out for a few festive beers on Christmas Eve but it on Christmas Eve 2014 it closed by 9 PM which was disappointing. I appreciate that staff need a holiday also but surely in the pub trade Christmas is a busy time and folk want to come out and enjoy a few festive beers. Hopefully the opening times will be made clearer and even better just open till 23:00 every night and perhaps 01:00 on Fridays/Saturdays-I am sure the there will be a lot of custom if this was implemented.
