Luckily, after our first full week back at work, the other half suggested going for a pint and Marble was the destination of choice. The large glass pane door and windows mean you can see inside - and check how busy it is! - and lets lots of lovely natural light in. I doubt we'll ever be able to find a seat here once the Manchester summer comes around. The light wood used in the decor means it feels very clean and new, on the right side of a modern design and not detracting anything from Marble's brand identity. I adore the new bar, which evolves from bar to seating; it's much more open than the old bar and gives the space a different feeling. I had no idea you could fit this many people in! Gone is the central bench seating and bottle fridges, leaving room for more people to both stand and sit, and a small door at the back promises additional seating - though, as the sign says, just not yet. Our bartender was lovely and very patient with my lack of knowledge. Although he accidentally poured two pints of Antipodean instead of one, we ended up taking both. Fate, perhaps. Price wise, it seems fair, at around £3.50 for the pints we had, though obviously this will change depending on the beer. The food menu looked very appealing, with some bar snacks (including jalapeno pretzels, which sound delicious) and main plates which would be perfect for lunch. The main temptation however came in the form of the meat & cheese boards, something The Marble Arch is very well known for. Anyway, personal navigational issues aside, on first impressions I liked the place very much. A couple of small raised tables near the front and then one long table down the bar's full length with seating for plenty (it's made from reclaimed timber, a big winner with me). The bar itself has a number of casks and keg lines which I'm presuming are on a rotation system so you can sample everything from their range (if you're a regular). The platters of meat and cheese that you can buy also looked super tasty. All of Marble's bottled beers are on display and as other reviews have said some of them are pretty darn expensive (e.g. you won't get much change back from a tenner for their 6.8% Earl Grey IPA - which happens to be my joint favourite with their 5.5% Chocolate Marble). If you have an hour or so to while away with friends, or strangers, they have Jenga, draughts and chess for customers to play, though alcohol and a steady hand do not a pairing make :) A little bobby-dazzler of a place which I'll definitely return to soon.

I've eaten here several times and always found the food to be decent. We had a steak sandwich from the specials board a long time ago which was good but a little expensive. That's kind of the problem with the Moorelands, it's not reasonably priced enough to be a good drinking local and the food is decent but probably a little overpriced to be a good restaurant. It sits a little between the 2 awkwardly. The fact my dad chooses to go to the Shant which is much further away for a Thursday night drink kind of says it all. The marquee outside is very nice, I recently attended an engagement party here and found it to be a lot better inside than I was expecting given it just looks like a plain white tent from the outside. I wouldn't not recommend the Moorelands, but I wouldn't shout about it either.

A very welcome addition to the Stockport scene and somewhere to definitely start the night on the way to the Magnet or maybe on the way back, the vibe is laid back and modern looking while still giving a nod to the old architectural style of this classic building. It was a smart decision to do something new with this place and on this Thursday evening it was fairly busy with beer loving punters. On tap there were 5 Robbies classics (we tried the Citra - ok but not quite enough citra in it for my liking and compared with the likes of Oakham ales same type) and there's 5 guest beers on tap from exciting craft beer breweries. Sandwiched in between there's still room for all the usual lagers and they have Brooklyn and Blue Moon on tap. Prices are fairly decent really (compared to Manchester city centre) and its refreshing to see the pricing reflected in the strength of the ale and fairly transparent in what you're actually paying when ordering a beer. We were drinking the Great Heck hoppy wheat beer mainly - if you see it on tap somewhere then make sure you get yourself onto it, so so good! Their food menu is all about the dogs - but as opposed to hard skinned fakey American ones, these are all about proper British butchers ones which fit in well with a giant roll and some crazy toppings - I went for the classic one which was good enough for me (£6 with pickles, tasty onions etc) although you could have everything from blue cheese to meatball toppings (time to get a bit more adventurous next time I think!) Tucked away from the main streets of Altrincham in a courtyard in the Goose Green area of town, its the brewery tap for local brewers Dunham Massey (their head brewer is called John Costello - so all became clear). Seven hand pumps serve a variety of their beers starting from only £2 a pint - awesome! They also offer ciders and perry as well as your typical full bar drinks list. It looks as though the bar took over a modern retail unit, as it's got a fairly minimal interior lacking somewhat when compared to older, more characterful boozers. They're definitely more steered towards the fan of a pint than a Cosmo cocktail it must be said, but when we were there it was bustling with all sorts of drinkers. The other bars on the courtyard can mean it gets a bit rackety of a weekend if you sit outside, but the price and quality of the beers on offer far outweigh that.

Price wise, its pretty reasonable. I usually have wine - sometimes red, sometimes rose, and always enjoyed the choice. It seems to have a good choice of beer/ales/lager (I don't really know the difference between them) and the beer drinkers in the group seemed happy. They do also sell spirits etc but I think it is aimed at beer drinkers (a bit like Port Street Beer House in town really). Definitely recommend this place when out in Altrincham.

Toms 101 Bar & Grill is a modern restaurant catering throughout the day, they offer afternoon tea, evening meals, Sunday roasts (sounded really good!) & you don't have to have savoury you can just go for dessert! They also do a "late lounge" cocktails, wine, lots of fizz and live music. I had the scallops for starters & the lobster Roll for my main, my partner had the classic burger - it was nice and I would visit again but seemed pricey, from looking at the menu they do have offers on throughout the day and Sunday's we just went at the wrong time! A great place to visit though if you want a relaxing meal, some English cuisine, followed by the pleasure of live music afterwards, family friendly too :-)

Their expansive drinks menu includes a huge selection of wines from over 60 bins, making it the perfect place for the wine buff. With their well-oiled kitchen team they provide excellent food at a decent pace, as your food never takes too long to arrive. It might also be worth remembering they serve a mind bogglingly good sticky toffee pudding. Despite having a tendency to hire staff for looks rather than brains, the front of house team are usually very capable. Its classy interior and open plan table arrangement means that the atmosphere is always good whether it's full or nearly empty.
