I was driving through Maine and needed a place to stay for the night. I happened to find this place and they were able to get me a room. I was staying in Boston at the Hilton and this place is 1000 percent better than the Hilton, the beds are comfortable and they have a kitchenette my other room doesn't, it's very clean ,big enough and very cozy I definitely recommend to anyone driving through. read more

First, let's start with the good. It's close to Acadia, the price is right and you can bring your pet. The towels and pillows were both nice quality. There is a fridge and microwave in the room. The fridge does a good job and is nice and cold. The TV in the room is nice as well. Now, for the bad, the room smelled damp, moldy, like wet dog, and cigarettes. They try to cover it up with plug-in air fresheners, which only makes it worse. The A/C units leave the rooms very, very humid for some reason. We mostly ended up keeping the windows open to air the room out. The mattress must be original to the building of the motel. It was the most uncomfortable and squeaky mattress I ever had the displeasure of sleeping on. The walls are very thin, and the hotel is pet friendly. So I hope you are a deep sleeper, because you will hear your neighbors and their pets so clearly its like they are in the room with you. There was also no maid service at all during our 5-day stay. We had to hunt down a maid for a towel, toilet paper, and soap refills. They do provide an envelope for a tip for the maids, though. My tip is to provide maid service for people during a multi-day stay if you expect money in that envelope. Also, do you enjoy hot showers? Well, too bad for you. Luke warm water it is! Lastly, the deadbolt on the room door is purely ornamental. Never again, not even for free. read more

We stayed at White Birches for a couple nights. We found the staff quite friendly and the rooms were decent. Seems the current owners, who have a number of other local properties, bought the place just over a year ago and have been working to refurbish it since it had been fairly run down when purchased. Definitely worth a try. read more

I stayed 3 nights in early September 2023. This is an independent property, so the front desk closes at night. I made sure I arrived with time to spare. Room was larger than I expected for a motel, perfectly clean. I appreciated the small refrigerator and microwave. I noticed accommodations for smoking outside so the windows stayed closed and I ran the AC. Location is a bit east of the center of Ellsworth, not walkable. But a short drive into town. Reasonable drive to Bar Harbor and main section of Acadia NP. Also reasonable to Winter Harbor. I estimate less than 30 minutes to either destination. I slept well in the comfortable bed and felt safe. read more

Exactly what we (married couple, no kids) expected/needed for an overnight stay while visiting Acadia. There are no bells and whistles, but it was clean and welcoming. We saw lots of families. While it's not in the middle of everything, the area seemed nice. We would stay again. read more

The customer service was great. The room was clean. You can tell they are working on improvements. We liked it because there was a fridge and microwave. We were able to stop by Walmart which was 4 minutes away for food stock up. 30 minutes from Acadia which was fine because Trenton had cute souvenir shops and places to eat without Bar Harbor price tag. The manager of this motel is a highly unpleasant and rude person who shouldn't be a manager at all with such an attitude towards his customers. We booked this motel through Expedia but weren't able to check in as the front desk required a COVID-19 negative test result which we didn't have. I have no problem canceling my reservation and looking for another place to stay but I do have a problem with unprofessional managers with no manners who don't know how to talk to their guests. read more

We check in and are told to put a door hanger out if we want room service. No hanger in our room. My parents room had no heat (baseboard heat) and by the 3rd call they bring in a portable heater. So next day we go to the front office where they say they serve coffee. 7:30 in the morning and office is locked up/ no one there. We come back from our ventures and I speak to the office lady (who is super nice by the way) and apologized and said rooms "should" be cleaned daily without the hanger and assured us it would get cleaned the next day (3rd day of visit). Come back the third day to watching a fight in the parking lot which continued for almost an hour that we saw in which a boy charged out of a room with a lug wrench charging after the staff people trying to diffuse the situation. Again the staff apologized but basically said we didn't have to stay if we didn't want to. Seriously? 4 nights no room service and watching what looks like people living at the motel on drugs fighting. And these pictures..., clearly depict the reality of the rooms. We had an absolutely lovely stay at White Birches!! After a really horrible camping experience, we had to make a quick change and find a hotel. White Birches was clean, quiet, dog friendly and affordable!! We were just the right distance from Acadia and would drive there, spend the day hiking/ sightseeing, and then drive back to the hotel in the evening. It was totally manageable and worth the small drive for the peace and quiet! The rooms had comfortable beds, a working (clean) mini fridge, and a very nice (and very clean) bathroom for the price. Overall we were exceptionally happy with our stay here and will definitely be back if in the area again!! read more

We had a broken coffee maker in our room. My mom walked over to the office and told them on Monday morning that it wasn't working. They said they will have someone look at it. By the time we left on Wednesday morning, not only was it still not fixed, the water that we had poured into it was still sitting in there. I wonder if they will even dump out the water for the next guests. Housekeeping took my mom's personal towel that she brought with her from home. The towel was hung up on a hanger separate from so the other towels and it wasn't even the same color. Maybe they are superbly thorough or Housekeeping doesn't know that unless towels are put on the floor that you leave them alone. When my mom complained about it, nothing was made to compensate her for the theft of her towel. WiFi is constantly down. The first night it was down, I called and they resetted the router and it was fine. The second night, the woman in the office says that I just need to keep trying because too many people are using the wifi. WTF? That's not how that works! I suggested to her that perhaps she should reset it since that solved the problem the night before. she reluctantly says that she will but honestly, I don't think she knew what I meant. AC is loud in the room. The rooms are dated, but passable. The staff is friendly. read more

Super cute, clean, and affordable hotel. We were just in for the night and I loved this place. Super accessible to highways and only 40 minutes from Bar Harbor. I was able to bring my dog and that alone is a big win for me. Check in was easy and I was able to find parking right by my door, even though the motel was booked. Despite what their website says, there is no operating golf course. "He wants to open it" was what I was told. I have no idea who "he" is. Didn't stay at the hotel, so this review based on a website that declares they have a golf course that reopened in Spring 2016, and is not open in Summer 2016; and doesn't appear to be opening any time soon. read more

Do yourself a favor by planning your vacation so that you don't have to stay here. It's now a Knights Inn, BTW. The first night we stayed, our television didn't work, so they fixed it. The fitted sheets are way too small on the beds, and they wouldn't stay on. Forget WiFi. Our second night, they accidentally put us in a room with only one bed for our group of four, and when we asked, we were told that they only had a smoking room. I'm not prejudiced, I just don't smoke and I don't like my clothes and hair to smell like cigarettes. However, their staff is great. They're professional, warm, and helpful. They gave us 10% off for the mishap, which was a nice gesture. I just wish they offered better amenities and/or lowered their prices. read more

Four star rating for what it is a budget motel. The location was great 30 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia which is what we were planning. Room is stocked with toaster two mini fridges paper towels dish soap silverware and a set of plates (4). Coffeemaker worked great room was clean. WiFi was spotty I wasn't ever able to get on. Nice seating area outside every room and convenient access to ice maker. The room attendant was very friendly front desk not so much but did give us a good recommendation for a local spot to eat. Ellsworth is closest town with gas stations and groceries etc. Everything closes early so get what you need before 7 pm. Only complaint was the bed there was I believe a plastic mattress pad that made you sweat and was uncomfortable. All in all exactly what we were looking for. Charlie's subs delivers to the motel and was delicious and fast. read more

ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My daughter called about a weekly rental while waiting to get into a new place. Guy who answered phone said there is no way to give a rate until room is available and and you have booked it. Since she has a Hospitality Management Degree, she questioned him and he responded by hanging up on her. Are you kidding me??? I used to love this place when Dale Hadlock owned it and even when Crazy Gil owned it. This place has gone downhill. Not sure if it's management or what. If it's a manager or front desk associate, the owners really need to find someone else. I realize there is a staff shortage around here but they are sitting on a wonderful business opportunity that is being thrown in the gutter. No problems at all, everything was clean and worked. Rooms were average size. I liked that the beds had plastic covers on the mattresses to keep them clean. Also liked that the sheets were patterned instead of plain white. Towels and sheets smelled really fresh. Didn't have any issues with the tub draining after I reached down and opened the lever. I would stay here again and would recommend it. Really appreciate that they are pet friendly. Rooms need more lighting. Beds are a little hard though and could easily be remedied with an inexpensive mattress topper, also the a/c could use a spray of lysol. Good location, 5 minutes from walmart if you forgot anything. Worst place I've stayed in forever! They attempted to update the rooms but not very good planning: 1. Bathroom is very tiny and the single vanity is all sink. There is literally no place to put things on top of the vanity. It doesn't even work to put something on the top part of the toilet as it's a top flush!! 2. The wall A/C unit is the old fashioned window type so it's impossible to control the room temp, your either too cold or too hot! 3. The towels are so thin, worn and rough, get ready to be scratched. 4. Two beds in room, but one bed is pushed against the wall, very small room. 5. Sheets don't fit bed well so they are constantly pulling off the corners. 6. WIFI did not work in the evening. TV did work after we found it was unplugged and put new batteries in remote. 7. They have a no smoking sign on each door, but right outside each door is a green cigarette disposal container with chairs so people can sit right outside your door & smoke. 8. Carpets felt damp. 9. I can only comment on the "golf course"; in quotes because it should be illegal to call it a golf course! The condition is so deplorable, it would be laughable if I hadn't been charged $37!, yes $37 to play the nine holes twice (with my son, for a total of $72 of the biggest rip-off in golf history!). The "greens" were dirt, weeds, and a few traces of real turf. We had noticed almost nobody playing on this course when we had driven by several times while on vacation. Of course, now I know why. What I can't figure out is, without anyone seemingly playing more than once, how do they even get any customers, other than drive by suckers like me? read more
