Hampton Inn Ellsworth/Bar Harbor

Our stay at this 2010 built Ellsworth/Bar Harbor Hampton was for just one night Thursday June 24…read morefor three people. Despite it being a weekday the bill was $343.35 as the tourist season had started. We had a rented a vehicle and the Bar Harbor Hampton was priced even higher than this one. We choose Hamptons because of the Hilton ownership oversight, although individually they are privately managed so quality will vary. We came from Minnesota an had just spent three nights at the Portland Downtown-Waterfront Hampton and were in Bar Harbor for a cruise and to check out Arcadia National Park. As it turns out we should have spent the three nights here and just one at the sketchy Portland Hampton. My girlfriend's daughter insists on separate beds for all of us. One great thing about Hamptons is that a rollaway bed added to a double queen room is not an issue, although the quality of the bed itself varies greatly by location. Here our requested rollaway was waiting for us with linens and pillows, and it was a decent one unlike the broken one we got in Portland that also didn't have a pillow or top sheet. My girlfriend actually commented on how nice the room was, a rare nod of approval as we are both a bit cynical. The thermostat had its own remote, the Hilton app actually worked on the TV if I remember right, there was an ice bucket and even a couple mini recycling bins. The view was just the local shopping mall, but that's not what we got the room for. One slight disappointment was being refused the token Hilton Silver Level membership benefit of free bottles of water on arrival. Maybe this isn't a 'select' Hampton. The workout room here was large and modern, unlike many Hampton workout rooms. The pool was also well kept. The normally no frills Hampton breakfast was way above par at this property. There was an abundance of choices and healthy options in bakery, hot and cold items, fresh fruit, toppings, and beverages. This included dairy free and gluten free options like Silk almond milk and Udi's gluten free muffins. See the image postings. This was an especially welcome sight after the sparse Portland Hampton breakfast bar of the previous three days. A surprising discovery I got on checking out the lobby after unpacking was the 'Iced Coffee Bar'. The receptionist told us they were the only Hampton to have one. It had a nice sign, coffee container, a dozen Monin syrups, creamer, ice bucket, cups, stir sticks, and napkins. See the image posting. My girlfriend and daughter planned to try it before we left early the next morning as I had understood from the receptionist it was available 24 hours. Unfortunately, it was taken down during breakfast. I'm not sure the girls even saw it. Other then missing out on the Iced Coffee Bar and not getting the token Hampton Silver Membership bottled water perk, this may have been our best Hampton stay of the dozen or so different Hampton properties we have tried. It should be the textbook model in management for other Hamptons to follow.

Sheryl at the front desk greeted us with enthusiasm and was so sweet, providng us with local recommendations and sightseeing tips in Bar Harbor. She even gave us some restaurants to avoid. Make sure you don't pack a lot of luggage when staying here. There are no elevators, only stairs to get to the second floor. We reserved a double queen suite, which was pretty roomy with a sofa, and a fridge and microwave. The room was slightly older, but pretty clean. My only pet peeve was that the shower drained water pretty slow and it felt like I was showering in a puddle of my soapy water. Continental breakfast is available at no extra charge. There are fresh fruits, yogurt, bread and pastry selections, juices and hot coffee/tea, cereal selections, and scrambled eggs and sausages. Parking is free and the Ramada is located near a grocery store, Walmart, LL Bean outlet, and the little downtown Ellsworth area.

The hotel says it's new, it's advertised as new all over the outside of the hotel, It's not. There were signs of age everywhere. Dated wallpapered, dim and low ceiling hallways. Old wallpaper in the rooms trying to cover up damaged walls. Air Freshener in the fan/air conditioner. Stains on the ottoman and weird stains/stuff on the desk chair. You can tell that they tried to clean it but it's very clearly still dirty We found a dead cockroach on the floor (at least it was dead). On a positive note, our breakfast hostess was amazing! She was so nice and got everything and anything the kids wanted and even made jokes and was funny. She was awesome. This is the kind of stuff I want to know when I'm looking to stay somewhere.

I had also checked Ellsworth and the prices were only a little cheaper and it was a long drive to get onto the island. The room was nice, a bit plain but that is OK as the bathroom was nice. We had breakfast a couple of days and it was about what you'd expect for a hotel breakfast, still it tasted fine. No issues and a nice close place to stay for your island exploring.

We stayed in a two bed room. It was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The heater worked well. The walls were a little thin. We could hear our neighbors and the TV. It did have a fridge and a microwave. They also had a coffee maker with coffee and tea options The bathroom was large. The water pressure in the shower was good and hot water didn't run out. The toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap. They also had a hair dryer. The parking was ample and it seemed like each room had one space directly in front. Breakfast was typical continental with eggs, a meat and waffles. Cold items included yogurt and cereal. The property has a pool and a laundry facility Tip: you must eat at Bar Harbor Lobster Pound at least once. It's about a 4min drive from the hotel

Location was perfect, 10/10. Close enough to Bar Harbor & Acadia without the traffic snarls, plus…read moreplenty of Lobster Pounds along the way in both nearby Trenton & the Park itself. There is a paved trail behind the property for walkers and joggers alike. The only issue you'll encounter is trying to make that left turn to head South into Acadia, because with the two way traffic it's almost impossible without heading into the bank parking lot across the street, and THEN turning right to head South. Quiet factor: 9.5/10 - Ok, so you might hear an occasional door closing too hard here or there but the rooms themselves are well insulated. Plus, pay no mind to the railroad tracks outside the window behind the property. There is a local tourist railroad that is nearby but does not traverse through here. I believe they were once part of the Maine Central Railroad that was part of a bustling lumber industry in the late 1800's and were also famously used to occasionally transport President FDR to a private residence in Bangor in the 1930s, but (this) is a spur of that line that isn't otherwise used. That said, there are plenty of No Trespassing signs on it. Staff: 10/10. Kudos to the breakfast team who kept the Inn's guests well fed. Offerings were delicious, and varied each day, and they are to be commended. The dining room seats about twenty guests comfortably, so time your AM meal accordingly. The biscuits and gravy were particularly good. Free Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at check in, too. Plus there is complimentary lemon water, ice cream, and soup from 5p-8p daily. Value: 9.5/10. The free breakfast is a plus to any traveler's budget and was a big factor in me booking here. Closer properties to MDI and in Bar Harbor proper are at least 50% more per night and will offer you larger crowds, and no complimentary anything. Believe me...I already looked. If you have kids, the breakfast is a huge savings. Plus the property is pet friendly. Shower pressure is average. While there is a grab bar, there are no anti slip coatings or mats in any of the tubs, so be careful getting in and out. Plus the vanity sink sits VERY low for some reason, so expect to be hunched over when doing your morning hygiene routine. In room safes and ironing boards are a nice convenience that worked just fine, too. The place has just enough parking, is close to a SuperCenter Walmart in case you forgot to pack anything, and there are nearby grocery stores (Shaws; Hannaford's) too. . Housekeeping is done every 3rd day unless requested otherwise. Bottom line: It's noticeably a little more $ per night than most other Comfort Inn's you may have stayed at, but you get what you pay for, esp. in such a picturesque & renown part of Maine. Would recommend and will return in the future. Cheers!

Great Breakfasts, Clean rooms, Good Hospitality! Would stay here again! Highly Recommend!read more

I finally got it sorted out, got my pin and paid but the whole transaction left a bad taste in my mouth. The room was ok. The bed wasn't super comfortable but it was fine for the night. If you're looking for a cheap place to crash during the summer, it's good for that. I heard, from a few patrons, the Thai restaurant attached to the motel is pretty good. Michael was extremely helpful and offered a lot of advice about Acadia and the surrounding area. He gave us a list of local food options, guidance on how to get a pass for the park online (even printing it for us), and told us where we could find a detailed map with all the carriage roads and trails. He was also very attentive and eager to help out in anyway possible. The cottage was cozy and clean. The AC worked well, the ceiling fan was quiet and helped me sleep, the bathroom maintained a hot water temperature for two showers in a row and we never noticed any issues with it running out. Though we kept the "do not disturb" sign hung and never used the cleaning services we saw the staff with their cart with all the supplies each morning and it was clear they maintained tidiness. Beyond just the room Michael and Sabrina had added a lot of really thoughtful touches. There were two gas grills each with their own metal picnic tables, citronella candles, and grilling utensils. We took advantage of them and grilled some hot dogs one of the nights. There was cornhole, a doggy clean up station, and even a very nice fire pit set back in the woods. We never lit a fire, but we did stare gaze back there and saw shooting stars and an extremely clear sky. I saw some reviews mention that the cottages aren't that close to any of the bigger towns. This is true, but I saw that as a benefit. Bar Harbor is mad house during the day and Ellsworth is further from the park. And neither of them can offer the same level of solitude as this little spot in Trenton, ME right outside of Mount Desert Island. It's very easy to get into the park or anywhere you like on the island. The loop bus even stops nearby. I don't have a single complaint about Isleview. It was a great place to stay and much more affordable than similar places just a short drive away.

Isleview is a quaint, clean little place - nothing super fancy, but has great Maine charm. It was perfect for a trip to visit Acadia + Bar Harbor. Our room had a strip of USB plug ins on each side of the bed for being able to charge all our devices. The bathroom was clean + the shower was hot. The bed/pillows were comfy with crisp fresh white sheets + a cozy soft blanket when it got cool. There was delicious bar harbor tea/coffee/fresh fruit/breakfast bars/hot chocolate in the lobby + a water cooler to fill up your water bottles each day. We will absolutely be back to visit + thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We are talking about getting a group of us to each rent out our own little cottage here next time. Isleview will be our home base every time we visit! Thanks for an awesome stay!
