For our first haunted house, and especially being one of the very few open during the Covid-19…read morepandemic, my friend and I were very excited to visit the Haunted Hotel. Firstly, I'd like to commend the staff on a few things. There were attendees outside who were enforcing the six foot rule, were making sure people were wearing protective masks, and were keeping the line lively with costumed actors chasing people around. It set a great atmosphere that showed you what to prepare for inside, that it would be both safe and unsettling. The interior of the haunt was tremendous, as each room and even the transition spaces were decorated well. A variation of atmospheres made for an exciting journey through what felt like an endless maze. Where Haunted Hotel really lost myself, my friend, and our teenage accomplices is the actors. Several actors only stood motionless, staring "creepily" as we passed by. Not intimidating or scary at all. A few that were great included the first actor, who introduces you, the man in the elevator, and the girl in the church. One girl at the bottom of the stairs tried and performed well, but beyond them, a lot of people were either ill-prepared to scare people or simply pointed and said "that way" to guide us out. One girl, dressed as the nun from the Conjuring series only said "hurry the f*ck up" as we passed, not doing anything to scare us. As we were leaving, prepared for the inevitable chainsaw chase-out, the actor was smoking and we startled him as we entered the room. Not the best thing to see to leave a lasting impression. Overall, you can tell the love that was put into the building as the sets were phenomenal. For most of the actors though, a scare class is needed. What I will compliment the business on is that each actor had a mask that was compliant with the restrictions. Sadly though, after spending $25 to enter and then waiting in line for two hours, my high excitement was deflated rather quickly. Here's hoping they improve as the season continues.

Paranormal treasure [Louisville KY]…read more Hubby wanted to do this tour when he learned that it was located in Louisville. I tried booking online thru Eventbrite but all tours that weekend were fully booked. I decided to give it a shot and called them. They were able to squeeze us in the first tour of the evening which was 9:00p. We arrived 15 mins early as instructed and made our way inside the gothic building. As many other curious visitors of Waverly Hills we were in search of history, architecture and the paranormal. There was a sign posted inside as we were registering: "This establishment is reported to be Haunted. Management is NOT responsible and cannot be held liable for any actions of any Ghosts/Spirits on these premises." www.theRealWaverlyHIlls.com Background: Waverly Hills Sanatorium was a former tuberculosis hospital in Louisville KY. TB was widespread in the area, resulting in a waiting list to stay at the sanatorium. Despite its name, Waverly Hills was not a mental hospital; a sanatorium is any institution that provides treatment and convalescence for chronic illnesses. Our tour guide was a member of the Historical Society. The experience included a guided tour where we were lead, at least partially, across all 5 floors and we also had the chance to look down the body chute. Waverly Hills has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in America and has been featured on ghost hunting shows as "Ghost Hunters," "Ghost Adventures," "Paranormal Lockdown," and "Buzzfeed Unsolved." There were some 30 of us in the tour... the historical stories shared with us were interesting and cool but I did not feel any of the following: full grabs, see shadows, apparitions, or shadow people, feel permanent residents walking up to people, taps, temp changes-cold spots, or hotspots, heard screams, footsteps nor door slamming. Too many people on our tour but I can't complain because we were just lucky to get in as extras. Waverly Hills Sanatorium is on the National Register of Historic Places for both its significance historically, as well as the architectural significance of the building. Review #3911

Just from my experience alone, I can tell the employees here really love working here as tour guides. They care for the building, it's history, and it's past patients. The staff are very informative on the history and building and love to share what they know when asked! A lovely experience and was a longer tour than expected for being a mini-tour. The haunted house had a decent amount of scare actors and the overall decoration and atmosphere were great. They provide food and drinks for purchase after, as well as a small gift shop. Notice: Bathrooms are accessible AFTER the haunted house. Until you reach the exit, there are port-a-potties available before you enter the building.

Staff and actors were professional with excellent makeup and costumes, although Freddy Krueger was my favorite. Be sure to vote for standout actors as you leave. We did not pay for the fast pass options and had very minimal waits, but that may have been because it was early October. I've been later in the month before and definitely wished our group had bought them, although standing in the lines can be entertaining in itself and actors are often strolling by and interacting with people. Keep the weather and the terrain (lots of dirt paths) in mind. Cash-only venue (they do have ATMs on site).

They shoot a real gun with blanks and it was so loud and directly in my ear, no warning or anything. My ear was ringing for 30 minutes. The maze was actually pretty good. After we spent another $20 a person for the fast pass because we got tired of standing in that line for almost two hours. By that time it was about 12am. My only complaint on the maze would be some areas are dark and inside some of the buildings are confusing and we went the wrong way a couple times. lol. However they could have more people in some of the buildings. I think 3/4 buildings were completely empty while others had 2/5 people inside and out. Also they have some strobe lights so bright and directly in your face. The worse part was the crawl space in the barn, it was kinda pointless and very dark. My favorite was the slide leaving the barn. It's very steep and kinda fast so if you don't like that then I would recommend the steps but for me that part was fun. Some of the actors really put time into what they do while others just sit there or stand there. Overall I spent $120 for two people and had a decent time. Only got scared twice & that's because you can kinda tell when they're gonna jump out or where they're gonna be standing lol. We went at 9:45 and left a little after 1AM. I would definitely recommend spending the extra money and getting the fast pass. I feel like most of my time I was standing in lines.

It's a longer drive but also an outdoor event that tends to offer more scenes for a similar ticket cost. We went on a Saturday night and got there around 8:30-9p. The staff told us the crowd picks up after 10p. They helped to safely park cars and it was a quick walk to the ticket sales booth and entrance. Pro Tips: buy tickets online!! There's a small fee but reasonable. We saw people waiting in a long line for tickets, only to turn around and wait in line for the haunted experience. Do the Fast Pass!! You truly pass the bulk of the crowd and go to the front of the line. Even at our time, if we'd stood in the regular line my guess is it would've been an hour or more. We waited 5-10 minutes at the most. Wear comfy clothes, and not your best shows. You're outside, it's dark and full of dust and leaves. No reason to dress to impress. Bring extra dollars. They had refreshments and drinks, plus a few activities like axe throwing, bonfire and side show items for pictures. Like a small circus sideshow. They also sell a bit of branded apparel. The scenes were nicely done, and we walked slow on purpose to appreciate the animatronics. They strategize the scenes well to give the actors opportunities to scare you more than once. Lots of wall turns and lights, plus places to hide. I'd confuse which ones were fake versus real people! I'm so glad we came and made this one of our fall activities. I'd recommend it to others!

The haunt has several stands in the line for you to read about the story and a video screen showing movie clips. The actors were fantastic. They made the line as much fun as the haunt. We loved watching them startle incoming guests. Before going in a group picture is taken and you can buy the copy for $5. Overall, several rooms to walk through and they've really made it full of animatronics. I didn't want to walk too fast because there was a lot to appreciate - even if it meant extra attention from the scare team. There's other fun areas you're "locked" into with a character and they get real close. Some areas of caution. It is built within an industrial building and there's a few steps and bumps along the path. They tell you not to run for a reason. One area is full of strobe lights and smoke - I had zero visibility. Thankfully my kids realized I was disoriented and grabbed my hand to pull me through or I'd still be there! The finale of the haunt is what adds my fifth star. A gift shop of clothing and decor, a snack truck, animals from a sanctuary to pet, desserts to indulge in - plus an escape room. We spent just as much time enjoying this and everyone was so friendly. Street parking plus a private lot available. Security to wand folks at ticket booth. Porter potties are clean. Lighting in key areas.
