My kids keep getting older and this year meant redefining our Halloween events during October. A haunted house was definitely on the list and I wanted to visit Nightmare Forest for a bigger experience. It's a longer drive but also an outdoor event that tends to offer more scenes for a similar ticket cost. We went on a Saturday night and got there around 8:30-9p. The staff told us the crowd picks up after 10p. They helped to safely park cars and it was a quick walk to the ticket sales booth and entrance. Pro Tips: buy tickets online!! There's a small fee but reasonable. We saw people waiting in a long line for tickets, only to turn around and wait in line for the haunted experience. Do the Fast Pass!! You truly pass the bulk of the crowd and go to the front of the line. Even at our time, if we'd stood in the regular line my guess is it would've been an hour or more. We waited 5-10 minutes at the most. Wear comfy clothes, and not your best shows. You're outside, it's dark and full of dust and leaves. No reason to dress to impress. Bring extra dollars. They had refreshments and drinks, plus a few activities like axe throwing, bonfire and side show items for pictures. Like a small circus sideshow. They also sell a bit of branded apparel. The scenes were nicely done, and we walked slow on purpose to appreciate the animatronics. They strategize the scenes well to give the actors opportunities to scare you more than once. Lots of wall turns and lights, plus places to hide. I'd confuse which ones were fake versus real people! I'm so glad we came and made this one of our fall activities. As a child, I'm talking back in 1994, I visited Nightmare Forest and had the daylights scared out of me. Keeping this in mind, I looked forward to another adventure to Otter Creek's home haunt, and was very pleased after my return. A lot of love went into the haunt this year, with a stage show to greet you that included fire and sword swallowing. The entirety of the first building was redone, but unfortunately fell short due to there being a lack of actors in the area. One of my pet peeves at haunts is when actors will get that initial reaction and then come running up, only to stop as soon as they get close and stare you down. That happened a lot at Nightmare Forest, which is one reason I docked a point in my rating. The trail and buildings are set up perfect, with plenty of room to get spooked and plenty of places for actors to hide. Some characters that were memorable include the voodoo lady, two girls in a VERY creepy dollhouse, and an actor that looks to be in a cluttered yard area who crawled out and scared the pants off of my cousin. Some spots that were memorable were the Michael Myers area, the Silent Hill zone which was fantastic, and the moving bridges were neat. The scenery in all was fantastic, but the dead space and absence of actors in some spot left some noticeable lulls that detracted from the overall haunt atmosphere. That's the second reason for a point taken off. Despite that, the love that went into the atmosphere and the flow of the haunt make it worth visiting, with plenty of food options and a lot of bang for your buck, Nightmare Forest is a great spot to visit for the whole family! read more

This is one of my favorite haunted houses. I seem to always get scared while just in the parking lot. And that's even before heading down the trail! I pay to get scared and I always feel that this trail is worth it! The part based off of the movies is always my favorite but the corn maze was up there this year! Wish the trail ended with a better scare though. The fast pass is totally worth the extra $10 as well. We skipped right to the front and waited maybe 5 minutes to enter the trail. read more

It should be called Nightmare at the Porta Potties because that was the scariest thing there. Go to the bathroom beforehand unless you want to pass out from the horrid smell of the porta potties that made us almost vomit. Plus, to make matters worse, there was no toilet paper. We paid for the $45 for fast pass and were the first ones in line, and it lasted about 35 minutes. The decorations were great, but the haunted forest was not scary. Several of the employees working the haunted forest were just standing around, not even jumping out at us. The ones that did were only jumping out at the front of the line. It was not worth $45. Purchased a walking taco, which was a waste of money. The picture showed it came with lettuce and tomatoes, yet it didn't. It also showed you could choose doritos or fritos, but they only had fritos. Then they used canned, cheap chili and nacho cheese and gave very little of it. So I paid over $5 mainly for a small bag of fritos. read more

I went with a group of six, and we honestly entertained ourselves throughout the forest. We ended up directly behind the two groups ahead of us for some reason and the group behind us got close many times. I've been before but never came out this dusty and dirty. There was only abt 15 ppl in front of us but they wouldn't let anyone back for at least 40 minutes. We all just waited in line lol. A tall groot looking character was walking through the line, he was an ass to a couple of ppl for some reason. We did get a few scares. I wouldn't say it was a waste of money but I do wish I wasn't this dirty coming out. I'd go again next year... just because - it's Halloween time! read more

I go here every year for 10 years, and i have a blast! The "circus" in the beginning is hilarious and awesome! The actors are great and i get scared so many times. It was meh. Just a lot of people jumping out at you. Nothing original but your typical horror movie themes which are pretty played out. Took about 20 minutes to go through all 4 attractions but for the price you get what you pay for. I feel like they dumbed it down this year. read more

We were incredibly disappointed in our experience here last night. Let me start by saying that I grew up in Brandenburg, KY where Nightmare Forest is based and my best friend and I spent our childhood in the forest, located in Otter Creek Park. I had not been in many years, but remembered it as a lively, energetic, one of a kind scare experience. I went last night with a group of fellow teachers, and excitedly told them about my good experiences with this haunt. We waited almost two hours in line to go through. Our turn finally arrived, and the experience was very lackluster. Props looked very cheap like they were purchased at the Dollar Store. Actors managed to get a couple of jump scares out of us, but nothing remotely creepy or scary. About halfway through, a manager approached our group of six and told us that we were going to have to move a little bit "faster" because groups were backing up behind us. We were not running or jogging, but we were walking at a pretty good pace, only pausing occasionally to feel our way down the path as the path is rugged and there is poor lighting. We waited patiently for two hours only to be rushed when it was finally our turn. I would not waste my money here again. For a more authentic and well executed scare, I would try Haunted Hotel or Baxter Avenut Morgue. read more

It was $20 a person and you can also buy a fast pass to skip the long line, not sure how much those were. I was told the past two Saturdays the wait was 2 1/2 hours long. We got there before it got dark so we were one of the first in line. Before you get in line there are a few stands to look at and it seemed to a few games for kids and a concession stand with food and drinks. I had six fried Oreos and a Coke and the total came to $6.00. There was a magic show going on as you waited in line and the guy was good and very entertaining. Once inside it was really fun. The actors were good and the walking bridge was my favorite part. I didn't like the strobe lights and spinning tunnel. It was a little much for me but the others enjoyed it. It took us about 30 minutes to go through the whole thing. It was totally worth it. read more

This place was a lot of fun for me. I'm 31 and this is only my second haunted house type thing. It's because a little tradition I guess. First eat at Mitchels for my birthday dinner, then find a haunted house so I can scream till I lose my voice. Everyone who usually goes with us, says they hate these things but only go because it's entertaining to watch me scream my head off. Ha! Just left, it really isn't worth the time to drive there or the money you'll spend...there's no real 'BOO' moments...you seen every scare coming...the attractions were not great...my husband actually fell through the bridge one cause it wasn't sturdy...we will never go again...spend a few more minutes driving down I65 to hill of terror in bonnyville...there was less then 20 actors in the whole forest...not impressed!!! read more

This was our my groups second stop as part of the Danger Run and my favorite of the night. It is a little difficult to find in the dark. There was a parking area but it was't really marked as to where we go after we parked. There were lots of areas and aspects to this place and it was great! read more

I'm certainly not happy to have spent $80 there last weekend to have no actors... Not even the magician. We drove and hour and a half for 10 minutes of fame props to look like actors. Not to mention that Michael Myers usually scares the crap out of me but he didn't even move.... Ugg... Super disappointment. Next year we will certainly make other plans. read more

Not as good as it was 8 years ago . When i went 8 years ago it was one of the best haunted houses in kentucky . There was an ambulanced flipped upside down and you'd meet michael myers in the dark . There was freddy on an old school bus . It was really good . Hoping to see it in 2017 but what it was , was alot of kids working the haunted house . The chacters werent as scary nor did they act like the ones in the movie . It was a really big dissapointment . This haunted house may be suitable for 10 and under but if your looking to be scared go some where else cause this will not... sadly . read more
