This past week, we did a small staycation within the state, and we took a trip to Bloomington. We of course, had to do this while we were there. Luckily enough, I work in a partner company and got my discount to come in for the day. Then, we had a few others that were on the access pass. I will say that Ian was awesome checking us in. I even got to hear some tips, tricks, and fun facts! While it seemed smaller to me, it was still as fun, as I remember. Even with a few new exhibits. I wish I lived closer to come back more often, but this is one of my all-time favorite places in Indiana!

They have a bubble room! It's awesome. A place where you can parachute little figure people over and over again. Shoot I laid down on a bed of nails once here. They have a huge climbing vine that you can climb all the way up to the second floor. But, you have to climb back down it doesn't exit on that floor. They have a cool water science area for kids complete with rain gear - which is optional do what you want ha. It's just a cool place. It's not too big and it's not too small. It the perfect sized science museum. They have the coolest gift shop! I still have my Wonderlab water bottle from years ago. If you've never been make a day of it!

Frankly, this museum is much nicer, informative, and engaging than it has any right to be. The very friendly docent on duty welcomed us warmly into the lobby and, after we paid our small admission fee, she took us through everything we needed to know about accessing the audio tour, the basics of the exhibits and I'm sure anything else that we had wanted to know. She was very friendly. The exhibits wind through the building with an early focus on the founding of the town. The major portions of the museum, however, are devoted to the flashier aspects that really shine of this small burg in the Midwest: the circus and laxative waters! Massive exhibits are devoted to the sulfur water that was an early cure-all which gave rise to the large spas that drove tourism to town. The most square footage is devoted to the huge, massive, enormous circus in miniature. My partner is all about miniatures and was totally engrossed in this display. And rightfully so; it is very impressive! Everything was above average for cleanliness, order, and functionality; which, if you've visited other small-town museums, you know isn't always the case. I left having a much greater appreciation for the town and its history!

This sculpture trail was a delightful find in the middle of some of the most beautiful countryside…read moreof Indiana. This is a family owned park where artists work to build sculptures of anything that their imagination can create, all out of metal. The shop where they do their work is on the grounds, and visitors can walk the trails and witness the work being done live. The landscape would be great to hike in by itself, but the art and imagination on display adds an element of wonder and fun to see what is around the next corner. And let's face it, sculpting art out of metal is awesome!!

I don't know what it's called, but there is one that is either really called Sun Goddess, or I just call it that. It's beautiful, and has been there on both of my visits, which were about 10 years apart. The sculptures are generally metal, with some being metal and stone, and some worked into trees or other bits of nature. Some have clearly repurposed old pieces of metal, which is nice to see. It does seem to have had a few pieces move or change over a long period of time, which could be for any number of reasons. I think it's the sort of place that would offer you something different if you visited during different seasons. It's worth the trip!

The volunteers working inside were wonderful to talk with, and very knowledgeable. Everything was functional inside the museum. The models and craftsmanship dedicated to the models were superb. I also really like how local all the artifacts were. My husband and I have been to a few air, space, and war memorials. This one was interesting to connect all the dots amongst the locals who served our country. We spent about an hour inside. The museum is free to enter. We purchased a few items and donated to the museum. We loved our experience here!

My wife and I visited the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum on Saturday for a lovely outing. He was on-hand to answer questions as they arose, but left us to make our way through the museum on a self-guided tour that covered much of the history of the twentieth century. Great individual exhibits and the models that volunteers have contributed help bring the history alive in a dynamic fashion. The docent clearly enjoys sharing the history and his enthusiasm is infectious. Great for an afternoon outing!

I am a self proclaimed presidential history "nerd". I've read a biography on each president in…read moreorder (currently reading F.D.R.), and my bucket list includes visiting all their birth and burial places. I also make it a point to visit presidential libraries, national historic sites, etc. I've seen DOZENS of locations now, and I can honestly say Grouseland is - by far - one of the most impressive locations I've visited. The amount of authentic items dating back to William Henry Harrison is jaw dropping! Additionally, the collection of items not necessarily related to Harrison are breathtaking. For example, they own an impressive collection of real signatures as far back as Adams, Madison, and John Quincy Adams (to name just a few). The staff was fantastic. The day I visited, their computer system was down and they were unable to run my card for the entry fee. No matter, they let me get back with them later. Their volunteers are knowledgeable about their collections and items within the home. Can't say enough about this "diamond in the rough" presidential history site. I was truly blown away...
